Title: 1994 Jeep Wrangler
Post by: Saniflush on February 25, 2014, 08:07:51 AM
Yes I know they ride like shit, blah blah blah.

One has almost fell into my lap yesterday.
Wouldn't be a primary vehicle.
Anyone who has owned own opine.

If it fell on your lap it probably would have hurt you very badly.

What was it even doing suspended over your lap in the first place? Did you misunderstand the phrase "taking it up the tailpipe?"

"Practically fell in your lap?"  ...oh, I see...you were turning a trick and the John didn't have cash.  I always knew your rusty trombones were a little pricey, but damn.

Does it have A/C?

If you get that under 4K, you are doing good.

Gonna go look at it but supposedly it runs well.

Guy who owns it has the big C and is looking to unload it for $2500.00 straight cash homie, and i think I can get him down another 500-750.

Is it a 4 or 6 banger?

I have owned Jeeps for the last 18-19 years.  I have never had major mechanical issues or repairs.

Glad to see it with a hard top/doors.

It appears the rear "bumpers" are missing as well as the spare.

If it runs and you can get it home, BUY IT!

That is rock bottom price for a hard top that runs.

Bullshit.  This is my way of not discriminating.  Everybody needs to be treated the same.  This is my way of helping that along.

So here is the update...

Still have not driven it (who the fuck tries to sell a car and doesn't have the damn battery charged?)

So everything about it running well is hearsay at this point....What I do know.

1) Extensive rust on the floorboards.  Some holes.  Not completely unexpected with a 20 year old jeep.  Suspect to really do it right will have to replace that whole shell.

2) 4 banger / 5 speed / AC / with 4 wheel drive

3) Soft top as well.  Didn't unfold it but feel certain based on it being crumpled up in the back that it is dry rotted so probably no gain there.

Opine.

At that price, it's still a bargain.  It'll be a fun toy...assuming it runs, of course.

I guess it depends on your definition of extensive rust. What looks extensive to you and me is just a cut and replace of the floor pans for a professional.

Call a body shop and ask for a ball park quote.

If the pans and soft top are the only issues, then 2K will be a steal.

If its used a an extra vehicle sounds ok once you get it checked out. I have a Hyundai Santa Fa (had to take from mother in law) and use it on crappy rainy days so I don't have to get the keen machine out in the rain.

Get it, pull the top and doors off, drive it for a spring, summer, and fall and sell it for $2500 in the winter.

Get a rust sander, bondo the shit out of it. Then get that bed truck liner and spray the entire inside of the jeep floor with it.  Problem solved!

Besides the holes in the floor help the rain drain.

Actually this stuff works really well on surface rust.

In high school I also helped patch floorboards in an old Willys jeep using some handy galvanized sheet metal that the state helpfully places out in random intervals on the side of the road on poles.  So that's an option.

The seller had a transmission go out on his regular vehicle and needed this one to cover the gap while he has it repaired.

Will be another week or so before I drive it.  I would say the fact that he is driving it is a good sign.

Now as long as I don't run into a motorcycle that I have to have in between now and then.
