Manning doesn't have the best day, but I think we see a touchdown scored by the Broncos we don't expect. Maybe a Holliday punt return or a pick 6.

The amount of Manning pole smoking here surprises me. Have you all forgotten 1997?

Lynch might carve Denver up for a few series and keep the ball out of Peyton's hands but I don't see Wilson pulling an Eli-like MVP performance with those receivers. Hope I'm wrong and this marathon will be fit to watch.

Peyton "Choke" Manning has never seen a football before.
Good grief.
I hate Pete Carroll.

Entire team is stinkin it up. Him included.

22-0 at half. Been a long time since the SB was a blowout.

Who ordered the Earth Wind and Fire wannabes?

Legacy...stuff Bammers and Mannings talk about...
-
I predict the Seahawks run away with it!
Halftime was good. Bruno looked like Kool and the Gang. Very enjoyable.
RHCP brought a little rock to the show with their Obama theme song!
-

I'm a sucker for good synchronized choreography, I blame all the Temptations 8 tracks I was forced to listen to as a child.
I actually thought he was pretty good, solid singer, good dancer, lots of energy. Better than most Super Bowl halftime shows.

Sorry, they used it all up in the regular season against crappy defenses with no pressure.
-
I thought he was great.
He and Verne Gagne had some epic matches. Guy still looked young on stage.
-
Just curious. Why was Peyton wearing gloves and a scuba suit? The game temp was in the upper 40s.
He never performs well when he's wearing gloves on his hands like that. Yesterday was no exception.
I know he's "old" or whatever, but I'm older than him and I played golf in 30-degree weather last week. Wore those detatchable sleeve things (which are awesome) and a pair of khakis instead of shorts, but I didn't wrap up like the arctic ice sheath was encroaching my backyard. Not that it could, there are a lot of cows across the way and they keep farting, but I digress.
If I can spend four hours on a golf course in near freezing weather, why can't Sunny Pey at least take the glove off his throwing hand?

I really liked RHCP.
I liked the other better when they were called Morris Day and the Time.

Got to give Bruno credit. He has the ability to span several different genres. He's got the old Earth Wind and Fire vibe moreso than Morris Day and the Time.
Morris was a one trick pony propped up by Prince. Liked Ice Cream Castles, but that was about the extent of his catalog.
EWF had a broader repertoire. They could funk it out, they could shift over to a rock blend, they could drop back for some soul, they could edge off into jazz, they could dial up a pop vibe and they could fire up a cooter melting ballad. EWF could even pull off a gospel sound from time to time.
Bruno Mars is more like that. Treasure is very EWF sounding to me. But his other stuff isn't like that. Some of his stuff I don't like. And that's not the norm. Usually if I like a band's sound, it's pretty consistent. His is all over the map.
EWF did it with the ensemble approach, but you know that band was powered by Phillip Bailey's voice (and Maurice's arrangement) for a good while.
I'd like Bruno's act just as well if it were more ensemble and he wasn't as much out front.

Never really listened to him before so I can't judge all his stuff, but what I liked about him last night was that he was entertaining. He sang, he danced, he played an instrument and he did it all really well while looking like he was having a lot of fun on stage. So I liked it. Might look for some of his songs on iTunes.

That is exactly what I said to my wife. He looks like he is having fun. And his music was fun. Throw in a little RHCP and it was a fun half-time.
This thread is so full of win that it makes me want to fly around on my new wings and shoot rainbows from my ass...

Fuckin shit Manning and the Broncos looked clueless as fuck. Real hard to argue against K' assessment of Manning at this point

National narrative today:
Peyton is a big game choker. How can you possibly rate him among the "greatest of all time" when he's not even close to the greatest of this generation (Brady according to what I heard all day).
I don't know if I buy that completely. Brady is a little AJ-ey to me. He's in a good system that doesn't require him to win games. Don't misunderstand, Brady's got eleventy billion times more talent than Douche McToot, but I sort of see the winning as being a product of the original Saban (Dour Bill from Frozenville).
Also have always found it funny that "Saban" isn't even an original creation. He's mirroring Bill all the way down to the stupid comments, the facial expressions and pissy attitude. He's not even himself, it's all a SNL skit.

With a cast overhaul?

That's Seattle, unfortunately for other teams in the NFC. They'll be around a while.
-
And I'm not trying to defend manning at any cost but he was getting harassed like a white guy in Harlem. And we know he can't run from pressure. That said, he was not good regardless. Neither was his OL, the WRs, special teams or the D. It was awful. Just a total team failure for Denver.

Still disagree. He is still one of the greats, and I would still take him over 95% of the current QBs around.

And again, still made it to the big game. I would take him over 96% of the starting QBs in the NFL today!

Marino isn't in the best ever conversation either, according to today's talk -- for the same reason. Just couldn't get over the playoff hump.
I don't necessarily agree with any of it. Peyton's always underwhelmed me, but a "best ever" list is subjective. Your criteria might be different than mine.
Sort of like somebody thinking Stanley Kubrick is a genius when he's pretty clearly a demented hack who had brief moments of lucidity.

Hey hey. ... Full Metal Jacket was awesome.
-
Unitas, Theismann, Namath, Young, Favre
What do these QB's have in common?
They all have 1 Super Bowl Ring.

He, like Peyton, had one good season.

Unitas is in the conversation because there was no Super Bowl for the first 18 years of his career. He played with rocks and dinosaurs.
Theisman is not in the conversation at all. Not even close.
Namath is not in the conversation unless it is about panty hose, fur coats, ramming your tongue down Suzy Kolber's throat or alcohol abuse.
Young is borderline at best. Don't think he's really one of the all time greats.
Favre is in there only for longevity.
If I'm making this Top Five list really, it's going to include:
Roger Staubach -- Hated him and hated the Cowboys, but couldn't deny him.
Joe Montana - Hated Notre Dame and hated him for a long time, too, but he also can't be ignored.
Unitas
Tom Brady
John Elway
That's it.

Here's why I think Peyton is the GOAT:
He's the Godfather of the NFL. He embodies what the NFL has wanted to be since its conception. He is the prototype "NFL" quarterback that every coach and owner and fan has coveted since the invention of the forward pass.
When it comes to all things football, he brings a level of intensity, passion, and expertise that is unmatched. It's not just winning the ball games (which he's won a fuckton of). It's not just his stats (he leads in most categories).
It's the other parts. Who in the history of the NFL is better known for the following:
Film study
In game adjustments
Reading defenses
Audibles
Spreading the ball around
Team leadership
Off the field character
Dealing with the media
MVP Awards
Manning brings to the table a host of attributes that you rarely see with any NFL player, and that goes along with statistics and on the field play that is barely rivaled by any player in the history of the league.
I think it's very telling that if Peyton would have won yesterday, he would have been a damn-near unanimous GOAT quarterback and overall GOAT player. It would have been barely debated. Only Brady-dick suckers and Kaos's "eye test" would have disputed the claim.
I hope he comes back next year and wins one before riding into the HOF.

43-8.
In the Super Bowl.
That's not negligible.
Eye test be damned, the GOAT doesn't lay a steaming pile of turd like that on the biggest stage of them all.
-

In ANY "best ever" argument I think rings count. I think Peyton got some of his "big game chokeer" rep undeserved due to total team around him. Name any of the guys mentioned in thus thread and not one of them cartied a roster of no names to a SBC. But the Broncos looked lost the ither night and Peyton looked as bewhildered as any average Joe scrub. Hard to put a guy in the best ever mix afer a SB performance like that.

He set the Super Bowl record for completions in that game. Sure it sucked, but his whole team sucked.

You hate Staubach? Damn. I can understand if you hate the cowboys but Roger is a pretty upstanding guy. Classier and more talented than Bradshaw, who is overrated per the stats. But he has rings because of the greatest defensive dynasty of all time. Brady is the twit of that list.
-
My personal opinion is that Montana is GOAT up to this point. However, Montana also had an amazing team around him, on both sides of the ball.
But Peyton deserves to be in the discussion he is in my top 6.
Montana
Staubach
Brady
Manning
Elway
Marino

I could live with this list. To be fair to the competition, though, you'd really need to carve up the list by generation to account for the changes in the game.
