Title: Something else no one is talking about
Post by: ssgaufan on January 09, 2014, 09:13:22 AM
JFF is going pro,

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The wait is over.

Johnny Manziel finally made public what has been speculated for months and what leaked earlier in the day.

The Texas A&M quarterback announced Wednesday that he will forgo his final two years of NCAA eligibility and enter the 2014 NFL draft. The news closes the book on an eventful college career, one that saw him break records and break barriers when in 2012 he became the first freshman in college football history to win the Heisman Trophy.

Hope like hell the Aggies enjoyed their little taste of winning.  Now that they don't have JFF to save them and their horrible defense they will join MissSt and Ole Miss at the bottom of the west.  Hell they might even replace MissSt at the very bottom.

I like him. I think he was still the best player in cfb in 2013 but of course the heisman now requires you to be on a top 5 team.

But he will get HURT in the league playing like that. Like rg3's overrated ass did.

I agree with you, but this was more about how shitty I think aTm will be without him now.

9-10 win team with him.

6-7-8 maybe without him.

I think he was that good.

Until they shore up one of the worst D's in college foosballz, they're a 6-7 win team without him. Tops.

I def think he's good. He still didn't get them to 10 wins this year and I'm just saying they were mediocre with him and will be without him. I figure they'll find some other way to get 9 wins. One of those instances when all their talent was one sided.

Not exatcly sure how you are figuring mediocre is 9 wins?
I would say mediocre would be in the 5-7 win range.  Without him this year they are completely staring that in the face with their shittastic defense.

I haven't gone back over their schedule but two games stick out in my mind.  I truly believe they beat both us and Bama this year if their defense wasn't shittacularly bad.

I like my use of "shittacularly bad" more than just plain ole "shittastic."

Without johnny Foosball this year they lose to Ole Miss, MSU, and Arkansas.  There is a easy three game swing that makes them 6-6.

It depends on what your definition of is is. I guess 9 isn't mediocre but I'm just trying to convey that they didn't reach a great season with him and won't without him.

Nine or ten wins is gonna be great years for them IMO.  I think they are more so gonna be having the 6,7, or 8 win years.

Also, they molest collies.

Yep.  They'll be a damn sight better than Ole Miss and MSU if they get a defense too.

Just saying this now.

Manziel is going to be a spectacularly bad pro.  Will make Tebow look like a Hall of Famer.

I say only if he's injury prone.  And he will be if they don't reign him in on all the scrambling.  As far as arm strength, accuracy and awareness, this guy is the total package.

ATTENTION: Oakland and Dallas, begin your fight to draft this guy.

Disagree.  He's aware, but he puts a LOT of balls up in the air hoping somebody comes down with them. He makes things happen because he can extend plays by running around like a lunatic.  That's not going to fly at the next level.

He's a competitor, but the NFL is a different game.  Movement is what makes him.  You've seen what they've done with Cam.  Forcing him to fit their mold rather than just letting him play (Shula is a terrible OC, FWIW).  You can see on his face how uncomfortable he is with it.  And you can see that Carolina could very easily break out and start putting up 40 a game to match that awesome defense if they'd turn loose of the leash.  Their offense looks like a hobbled thoroughbred.  Need to take off the chains.

They take all that zigging and zagging away from Manziel -- and they will -- and he will be a liability. His arm motion is erratic.  Half his passes are sidearm throws. That's not going to work.

Reminds me a little of Fran Tarkenton.  He was successful but it was a different day then.

Agree.

I do think he has better accuracy and passing motion then Tebow though, but the rest I agree with.

TAMU's defense was pretty young this year too - kind of like us on OL last year.  They will be improved next year just by having experience.  If they had JFF and year two of this defense they would be good next year.

But TAMU will be all one or the other for a while - maybe D is better next year but with JFF and Evans gone, their offense sucks.

They are Miss State with a different dog.

I say the Johnny has two maybe 3 fantabulous seasons then fades away. I don't think he'll have the success that Cam will.

I def see him having more success than Tebow. He'll at least make a roster as a back-up.

But their d has been turrible going back to Sherman's last year.

But their d has been turrible going back to Sherman's last year.

Just saying:

Quote
Aggie head coach Kevin Sumlin was forced to go with a youth movement on defense in 2013 because of injuries and an overall lack of depth. The Aggies played 10 true freshmen on defense and special teams in 2013.

Maybe it was coaching in 2012, maybe it was youth in 2013.  You cannot deny that playing 10 true freshmen was not a handicap.

Next season, no excuses.  But I predict their D will have improved and their offense gonna suck.  So either way, it's a push, and they are right back down in the cellar where they belong.

Their D is not going to improve enough to offset what they lose in scoring with Johnny Douchebag.

Look at a few QB's in the playoffs this weekend.  NO and Seattle have QB's that might go 5'10.  Brees has set all kinds of records during a long career.  Russell Wilson was a scrambling, make-something-happen player with an okay arm.  Got him playing within the offense....he seems to be doing fine.  Thug Newton and Colin Klaperdink are two that made their living running around and making shit happen. Both have been reigned in, to an extent, and are having great success playing within the offense.

I agree that I'd like to see them take the governor off Newton.  It'd be more exciting, but I also think he'd wind up going all Vick/RGXXXXIIIV and his career shortened.  To me, I think Manziel is sharp enough and has all the tools that if he gets in the right system with coaches that will keep him somewhat in check, he could make a decent NFL QB.  You can't take away all the man's creativity, but you can't let him go full tard every play either.  In the NFL, that results in pavement pizza.

Manziel has an ok arm and his legs and peripheral vision make his game a great ticket on a 4-12 team. I still think long term he would do better to go CFL and try to cash in like Dieter-Brock or Warner with a better NFL team in three years or so but that's not going to happen. I doubt he will have the durability to play more than three or four seasons running for his life.

They have been recruiting a helluva lot of defensive players and should improve some there. And without Johnny's ad lib style they didn't display a stout run game to build around a mortal QB.
