TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — Talking to Alabama football players this week, there's a different dynamic.

They're relaxed. The incredible burden of perfection is gone.

AJ McCarron on the stakes involved with Sugar Bowl
Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron says there's a lot on the line against Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.
the goals are still very real as they enter the Sugar Bowl against fellow-traditional power Oklahoma.
"It's only right we finish out on top," said quarterback AJ McCarron, who was especially loose in his interview. "We still have a chance for a 12-win season, Sugar Bowl championship, which is huge. It's a BCS bowl. Not a lot of teams in Alabama history have won 12 games."

In fact only six teams — including four of the past five — in program history can claim that win total.

But there's more.

"Not only that, I saw something someone sent me, that Vegas said if we played Florida State or Auburn again we'd still be favored in points," McCarron said. "So we have a chance to show the country we are the best team. We might not win the national championship, but we can have everyone talking about us more than the national championship team. And that's happened in the past.

"We still have the opportunity to do that. So we have to go out the right way."

Handicapper Danny Sheridan was among those who said Alabama would still have the edge over both Auburn and Florida State if it had a seat at the BCS table.

But it doesn't, so a win over a program like Oklahoma will have to do.

And it isn't hard to find motivation in that case.

"Oh man, it's always great to play a team that has the same tradition as us," senior Kevin Norwood said. "We know that they're going to go out and bring their best game, play their best game. They have a lot of momentum carried over from the last game that they played. It's going to be a lot of fun, it's going to be a physical game."

A LOT of money will be moved around to make sure that the AP voters see it the same way.

One of those shitty stores opened, and then went out of business in Cullman while I was gone.

Well if he says it, the bagman must have been true.

I can't wait for the AJ Channel to air locally so everyone can celebrate the wonder of this HOF game manager.

Being favored doesn't translate into wins. Just ask any bammer or Fresno State Bulldog fan. Or, ask that bammer kicker Saban threw under the bus.

Was in a store yesterday.  Tons of Bama stuff in the discount bins.  Asked where the Auburn stuff was.

"Gone. We just didn't order enough I guess."

same thing happened to me this weekend in north ga at a touristy gift shop. Asked the lady where the auburn items were. she said they sell it as fast as they get it. I asked if the bama stuff was like that too, she said "nah, we have plenty of it. It doesn't sell real fast. The UGA stuff sells decent but nothing like the auburn stuff".....

Again...this was about an hour from athens and not far from both the nc and sc state lines. Clemson and UGA within driving distance and the auburn stuff is whats selling.

That's one of the few good things about losing the Iron Bowl.  A large number of bammers become barners.

That is true, but this guy stays a bammer.
