Students will have to wait another week before the result of a new policy within Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium is decided. The policy aims to address concerns of offensive speech and slurs within the stadium.
A resolution, proposed by Sam Wilcox, senator of the College of Liberal Arts, which would designate Jordan-Hare Stadium as a No-Hate Zone, was indefinitely tabled Monday, Nov. 11.
In front of a large number of students and faculty at the SGA senate meeting, Wilcox filed a motion to table the resolution as he said there would be an amended one coming through future orders.
Prior to tabling the resolution, many students spoke out, both for and against the designation of Jordan-Hare as a No-Hate Zone.
“Hate, fear and disconnection poison the vibrant community we have on campus and in our stadium,†said Emily Kerzin, graduate in counseling psychology. “Passing this resolution will help those who feel excluded here at Auburn.â€
With community serving as the main focus of the resolution, many of the students maintained their focus on the Auburn community and its traditions.
“We should pass this resolution,†said April Scott, graduate in counseling psychology. “It would create an environment at the stadium where we no longer allow words of hate or discrimination, so we can truly be all together, all in.â€
The resolution was all opposed by some students who believed passing a resolution to solve a campus problem is not the correct way.
“I’m here to oppose this resolution,†said Savannah Silver, sophomore in pre-business. “This resolution is dangerous and although it has good intentions, I disagree in using resolutions to solve a moral problem on our campus.â€
In other news, Wilcox filed a motion to move an order of future business onto the Nov. 11 agenda.
The resolution, also proposed by Wilcox followed in the same suit as the Jordan Hare No-Hate Zone, but instead proposed actions to ensure an inclusive campus environment.
Wilcox’s motion failed to carry with a vote of 17 to 16, putting both of his resolutions on next week’s senate agenda.
There's some karma in there somewhere.

Then I realized it wasn't April.
There's some karma in there somewhere.
Sam Wilcox, senator of the College of Liberal Arts,
My question is are there really that many students from his "area" who are going to ball games?
Oh, and fuck him! I got his hate free zone.
-
Both students speaking for the resolution are grad students in counseling psychology? Suck it up nancies!
-
So, our own Psychology Majors don't want our fans getting into the psyche of our opponents? Fuck them. I want Jordan-Hare Stadium to be the hardest place to play at for opponents...and if they think it's going to stop fans from cussing out the uat players, they'd better think again.
It's D1 College Football, not Park ball...It ain't the fucking playground for kids. I understand bringing kids to a game, but they hear worse on most TV shows now anyway. Good God imagine if the kids now were to ever watch a Auburn or uat game at Legion Field, with gun shots going off in the neighbor hood behind the stadium, right where their Dad parked the car (in the driveway of some stranger's house, jammed in with 8 other vehicles).
Auburn already is having trouble selling season tickets, imagine them throwing out season ticket holders for cussing out the refs...that's going to go over real well with them.
Next, the Arts and Crafts Dept. will try and pass a rule for the football team to not tackle so hard, they'll have Jake Holland as their poster boy. We are our own worst enemy.
-
I'm not saying that Samuel Wilcox's phone can or can't be found pretty easily on the interwebs.
Freedom of information act. Hippies finally got something right.
-
Is this really a huge issue today? Fuck him. I say we blow up their phones day and night.
-
Gang, you'd be surprised how much of this kind of neo-postmodern apologist thinking permeates campus. I weep for the future.
-
I don't understand. I couldn't say "fuck" or "shit"? Or "God damnit"?
Or is it reserved for the n-word and the h-word? Because barely anyone is using those words in public nowadays.
If they think the Auburn police is going to take their time to remove football fans who say fuck, they're out of their minds.

If the word "fuck" is listed, then my question is, who the fuck is going to tell Takeo he can't say "fuck" inside Jordan-Hare?

I haven't noticed hate speech so much as I have yelling at the kids. I think they should incorporate a noise ordinance into this. It is not so much what we say as how we say it. Let' all be courteous Saturday and remind the team to not tackle Murray hard. He was upset at Fairley the last time that happened.
-
I believe this shit has more to do with the recent federal law prohibiting the use of discrimination with respect to sexual orientation and nothing more. So we can't call faggots "fags", that's all.

T-shirts printed with the face of a student who died from cancer: a fitting tribute for classmates to wear, or something that causes grief and should be banned to “protect the interests of all children
Administrators at the Lakeview Middle School in Michigan asked at least a dozen students on Monday who wore shirts featuring the name of 12-year-old Caitlyn Jackson, who died Saturday after a long battle with leukemia, to turn them inside out or duct-tape the girl's name, the Battle Creek Enquirer reports.
The school reversed the decision the following day.
“That hurt me to the point that I didn’t think I could be hurt anymore,†said Caitlyn’s mother, Melinda Jackson.
Amy Jones, a Lakeview finance director temporarily serving as the district’s leader, said the school decided to ban the shirts after reviewing its “crisis management plan†that is “based on a lot of research and expert opinion.â€
Jones told the Battle Creek Enquirer that the plan bars memorials that can remind students of their grief and possibly make it worse for others.
“The intent was designed to protect the interests of all children,†she said.
The district met with Jackson’s family Monday and then decided to reverse the ban, Fox 17 reports.
“During this time of grief, we sincerely regret that our actions caused additional stress for Caitlyn’s family and friends,†read a post on the district’s Facebook page . “Today we heard from students and families the need to allow students to continue showing their support of Caitlyn under these special circumstances by wearing shirts bearing her name.â€

Auburn student government association tackles hate speech after anti-Semitic incident at stadium
Auburn University's student government association has approved a pared-down version of a resolution seeking to thwart hate speech on campus, according to the Opelika-Auburn News.
The resolution cites "multiple reported instances of harassment" on Auburn's campus, including Jordan-Hare Stadium.
It urges students to treat each other in a manner that is consistent with the Auburn University creed and urges the university to form a committee to streamline the process for addressing incidents or harassment and discrimination on campus.
Earlier versions of the resolution called for more severe measures, including the reading of a statement before each football games reminding fans of the school's harassment policy.
The resolution stems from an incident at Jordan-Hare Stadium targeting Emily Kerzin, a clinical psychology graduate student.
In a letter to The Auburn Plainsman, the university's student newspaper, Kerzin wrote that she attended a game with friends and her boyfriend's family from out of state.
Within the first quarter, she wrote, they became the subject of "harassment, taunting and provocation by drunk people in the student section sitting behind us."
"We didn't even make it to the end of the first half when a nearby woman referred to me as 'F------ JEW' and we left," she wrote."
"I got a taste of what it feels like to be reminded that because of how I look I DON'T BELONG."
Kerzin, a native of California who did her undergraduate work at New York University, described herself as "liberal, secular, Jew queer" in a 2011 feature on her move to Auburn published in USA Today.
The SGA resolution apologizes on behalf of the student body "to the offended part for the hurt and negative feelings that were experienced."

Bullshit.
No one at Auburn gives two shits about a girl who looks Jewish. How did they even know she was Jewish?
Seems more like she's trying to create a story to gain attention for herself.

I don't even know what that is.

See. + points should be given to these girls for incorporating history and education into their banner. it used to that we rewarded intellect and quick wit. Now it usually ends up offending a non (hetero-sexual white male)!

You can call me liberal. You can call me secular. You can call me Jew. You can call me queer. But, just don't call me late for supper or I'll pop a cap in somebody ass.

Me too. Back when I was in school, I use to leave my panties on the floor right beside the bed that way I wouldn't need to go to the dresser and open up the...I mean, like when girls would sleep over which was on a very regular basis. Like, a whole lot. I would just leave them there. On the floor, beside my bed. A lot.
