Nick Saban's agent claimed Alabama coach would consider Texas job
While Alabama head football coach Nick Saban has said he's settled in for the long haul at Alabama, the four-time national champion's agent says there's one exception to that rule. Jimmy Sexton told Texas officials in January that the Longhorns job is the only one that could get Saban to leave Tuscaloosa, per the Associated Press.
Former Texas Regent Tom Hicks wrote in an email obtained by the AP that Sexton spoke to him, as well as current Regent Wallace Hall, about Saban's feelings in a 45-minute telephone call.
"Sexton confirmed that UT is the only job Nick would possibly consider leaving Alabama for, and that his success there created special pressure for him," Hicks wrote.
What exactly is the "special pressure"? That hasn't been made clear. It's hard to imagine that serving as the Longhorns' head coach would have any less pressure than holding the same job at Alabama.

How many times was Tubs going to Arkansas after success at Auburn? Yeah, seems like Jimmy Sexton is just positioning to get more $$$ for his client. But it makes the Updykes squirm and in a week when they are marginally worried about an opponent which makes it kind of fun to watch.

I think this is more than Sexton. If it was Sexton being Sexton, this would have been made public after the year. There is more to it than that.
I do think that breaking this probably squashed this now though. Brown is not going to go out easy. Alabama better be glad that Texas started winning, and perhaps saving Brown's job. If Brown were to lose his job, I would be a bit scared if I was an Alabama fan...

There is no way Saban leaves. He is full of integrity. I mean the man wakes up every morning and just pisses excellence!
These are the things his worshipers are saying on FB.
He only left Miami because he had not found anything as good as bammer....

No comparison, I agree. But this doesn't happen to Bama. Ever.

Well, yeah. I'm shocked that it's happening now. Methinks the national media is starting to see the blood in the water.

True and true...
I don't get what you are saying?
Should we list all of the things that are also true that have been swept under the rug?

You can argue the DJ report being released during the week of the latest GAME OF THE CENTURY. But the Lord Saybinz to Tejas thing has been a pretty consistent rumor all season long.

My :cents:
After the debacle of BYU and Ole Miss, Mack was as good as gone from Austin. Everyone - even the most loyal hook 'em fans - wanted him gone and wanted a new horse to hitch the wagons to. Saban would be on anyone's short list realistic or no.
Then, the unthinkable happened. Mack and Texas beat the living guano out of Oklahoma. The base is now at a crossroads. Do we go ahead and run the old boy or do we stick with the one we brought to the dance? That's why this rumor is still living. It's either the side that wants Mack gone putting it out there or the side that wants him to stay and they are trying to scare people with the thoughts of tyrant Saban. It's not some grand conspiracy in the media against Bama. The media is anti-SEC right now begging anyone else to win the title. Bama just happens to be the most likely suspect in the SEC for now.
-
I don't think this is Sexton trying to get more money for Saban. Little Nicky is worshiped and if he wants a raise, all he has to do is say he wants a raise. His MNCs are his leverage, he doesn't need his agent playing the same games that other agents normally have to play for their clients.
He won a MNC at LSU, expectations became very high, and he left. Expectations at UAT are now higher than ever, so he may be actually looking to go elsewhere and fix another struggling big name program. Dan Patrick made an interesting comment about Saban...he might be more of a "fixer" than a "maintainer".
-
I have no illusions about Lord Saybinz leaving. Wouldn't surprise me if he did go. Coaching turnover is a fact of life at this level and above. Who is the most tenured coach in the SEC? Richt? Miles? Getting 10 years from a coach in this or any league is far more the exception than the norm. Coaches come and go for a variety of reasons. The dreaded, "Direction of the program". Better offer. Getting closer to home. A different challenge (NFL). Lord Saybinz has been at the following:
Toledo: 1 year
Meatchicken State: 5 years
LSU: 5 years
Miami: 2 years
Bama: Currently in his 7th year.
The above is from teh wiki's, which also lists him at 5'6". (Unless the field is tilted) Is he happy in Tuxaloosha? Does he want one final challenge with a program like TexASS? I honestly thought the guy would bolt to Penn State before that program got Sandusky'd since he's from West Virginia. It's all speculation but you can guarantee that Sexton is entertaining and discussing all options and offers with LS.

He is worshipped by the masses no doubt, but the PTB might be getting to thinking that Bama is bigger than any one person and 50 other people could come in and coach this because only the best want to come to the mighty tahd.
And we see how that has worked out for Jerry and Da boyz.
-
The thing that gets me is, considering his success, couldn't the Gump King just come out and name his price anyway? Whats the point of using Texas for leverage? The way he is worshiped, you would think he already has all the leverage he would need to get whatever he wanted out of the gumps.

Eggzellent point. Correct me if I'm right but isn't Lord Saybinz the highest paid corch? Or Mack Brown? Last I heard was $5-$6 large per year. Is that about right, give or take a million? I understand that athletes are paid to go out and perform. That's what fans pay to see. You pay a guy like AssRod $25 million a year to go hit, catch and throw a baseball. Who is more popular or recognizable in sports today? ARod or Lord Saybinz. Who generates more $$$ for their program? Take Alabama for instance. Would their fans stampede over each other running across a football field to have AJ McTatoo autograph their baby's butt. Maybe. But they would kill each other for the shot at touching the royal khaki's of Lord Saybinz as he passed by.
I'm not saying I want this to happen for LS or any other coach simply because the college game is already way out of hand with regard to the sick ca$h flow. But what's to stop him from saying, "I want $15 mil or I bolt"? Does anyone believe they wouldn't pay him? And leave the contract open ended? No buyout?

I haven't read what the rest of you posted but I rarely do. Anywho, in case someone hasn't mentioned this, the FOI act being the way that this conversation was uncovered was either a masterful ploy by Sexton or communication that he never intended to be public. I believe it's the latter.
I didn't think the house shopping deal with Ms. Terri held water. Not so sure now.
I doubt it takes place but it could. Tx and Tx A&M could buy any of us in the SEC out many times over. If they want Nick, they could pretty much open the ponderosa's box with coaching salaries.
And one other thing to consider. Wouldn't it be just like an egomaniac to go to the best chance at winning a MNC at their 3rd school? Would he be the only coach to ever do that? I'm suspecting so. He can't reach the all time wins record but he could certainly win his 5th or 6th or more at his third school in which he won one.

I'm saying true or not, information about both have been known. Yet they decided to wait until the week of Alabama's two biggest games to release said stories.
Which goes directly against the thought that the REC owns all media everywhere and only sucks Bama dick.

Get your shit straight gump. We only maintain that the REC controls BSPN, the New York Times, SI, CBS, AL.com, and the rest of the state media. Nobody said shit about the REC owning Yahoo! Sports who are the ones thats gonna cause the hammer to fall this time.

Saban to Texas...when would it happen?
If Alabama loses to LSU - and shit, they may have to lose two games - then maybe it'll happen.
But if Alabama is scheduled to play in the BCSCG, when exactly does Saban leave? After the game? When recruiting's all but finished? It would also be a huge distraction for Texas to be coachless in January with Nick Saban waiting to finish his season. Alabama might as well ask him to leave beforehand, but then you're playing without your head coach.
It just seems like talking. Maybe just in case the NCAA sends Alabama a mean letter about DJ Fluker and Ha Ha Dicks. Maybe if LSU and Auburn beat Alabama. Maybe if they get to the SECCG and lose to Missouri.
But if Alabama remains undefeated? There's no way he leaves. That would tarnish his legacy big time to leave in the middle of a BCSCG run. And if money's not the reason why he'd leave, then it's legacy.
