- Can we do it? I don't know. I'm nervous.
- I watched Jake Holland slip off a ball carrier as if the ball carrier were covered in KY jelly. The craziest part about it was that there were two Auburn tacklers already on him. Jake just somehow was trucked. He was trucked in a gang tackle.
It reminded me of that Herschel Walker highlight. The one where he dives over the pile and gets stuffed and instead of going down, he somehow, some amazing way, he lands on his feet, spins around and jogs into the endzone.
It was like that but the exact opposite.
- I'm nervous because Arkansas is god-awful but they have a insanely talented running back that can shred defenses for chunks of yards.
- I'm nervous because Tennessee's FCS-caliber quarterback was banged up and a true freshman kid without eyebrows looked like he'll one day be a star. He gets a few weeks to get better. Tennessee has a good running back and a great receiver.
- I'm nervous because our defense has struggled in away games. They force opposing teams into mistakes. I think they feed off the home crowd.
- But I'm really excited about being nervous. I haven't really been nervous like this since 2010. Maybe a bit at the beginning of 2011. Maybe a half-second leading into the 2012 Clemson game. But this kind of nervous? I haven't felt this in a while.
- We are a top ten team. Let that soak in for a few seconds. We have two winnable SEC games and could be pushing the top five come Amen Corner.
- I don't feel I should be nervous. This season is a freebie. It's Gus's first year. We're coming off the worst season in Auburn history. This was supposed to be a year where a lot of losses occurred but a lot of potential was shown. That's not what this year is though. This is a prime moment in Auburn history. We're in contention for the SECCG.
- Nick Marshall really needs to get and stay healthy. I like Jeremy Johnson's potential like everyone else does. He looks good out there. Better than I thought he could be. Strong arm. Nice touch. Good moves. Lots of speed. But it seemed like he made a few mistakes. He threw into double coverage a few times. A few aberrant throws. He made a few decisions that against Georgia and definitely against Alabama would hurt our chances to win. Not that Nick Marshall is all that better passing but...
...Marshall has become an impressive runner. He's shit your pants fast and has some great moves. It seems each week he improves as he's becoming more and more comfortable with the offense. He's our best chance to win out.
- I don't know what it is about Oregon. I just don't like them. I don't like their style of play. They're just so...fast...no that's not it...they're just so reliant on pace. They click. Boom boom boom we've got you on your heels and touchdown. Then another touchdown. And now the game's out of reach.
But if there's something that a good defense can and will do, it's affect your pace. It's why in-game adjustments are so crucial to winning football games.
I don't really have anything objective to say about Oregon. It just seems apparent to me, empirically, that Oregon's offense will be stifled against a good defense like Alabama or Florida State. Everytime they do something WOW AMAZING, I think, "a team that can tackle would have stuffed that play."
- Missouri blew it, and I think they lose two more. Maybe three. 17-0 in the 4th quarter and you LOSE? That's unacceptable. I think this loss is really going to put a kink in their confidence. I think Spurrier knocked them back to Earth. I think Ole Miss is getting it cranked up and A&M will shred them.
- There's going to be five undefeated teams at the end of the year. Maybe more. This year will already make people question the playoff system.
-
The thought that Jeremy Johnson is a true freshman and that Auburn/Gus-lee should have a QB for more than one year for the first time in what seems forever makes me giddy. He needs reps and practice and game experience and maturity. But the tools are definitely there. That strike to Coates was stunning.

Barring something freaky like a monsoon or early blue norther, we should beat Arkansas.Tennessee can play us tough but we also win that one. Georgia too, even with Gurley back because we can beat them up front on both sides of the ball...finally.
Auburn doesn't have to play near flawless against Alabama and we never do. Same old story. We look like a good team and they are a very good team.
Anyway I'm thinking Cotton Bowl if we finish strong even though Brad Edwards has us going to the Music City Bowl. Still a lot of work to do but I think we likely finish 10-2 which would be quite an achievement but it's not 11-1 with a visit to Atlanta. To do that Nalzahn needs another signature win. WDE!
Not too shabby considering Auburn was only supposed to win 6-8 games.

IF we go 10-2, we're going to the Sugar. Probably if we go 12-1 too, cause Auburn.
I'll take that all day.

So I missed the 2nd half. What happened? Did Johnson play much, if at all? Did Wallace suck? Did Mason play much, if at all?
Trying to figure out how we went from a 38-7 first half to a 7-3 2nd half.
-
Because we played a bunch of young guys. Maybe it'll help out down the road.

Well...I saw a guy named Leek playing on the line. A bunch of white dudes too. They came in around the middle of the 3rd quarter.

Going back to your statement about Jake Holland, he had a LBer's DREAM kill shot...Jake hit the QB...the QB was tackled 5 yards or so downfield by two other defenders.

^^This.
That is exactly what you are supposed to do in a game like that. You play your starters for a half and then pull them out. Let them get some rest and let your young guys get meaningful snaps to build depth.

...or you do like sabbin and keep most of your starters in the game to pad stats and run the score up...42-10? Let's throw some more passes.

They deserved every bit of it for the whole "red team" crap. "Ready to go to war", my ass. It's no different than the "that school down the road" thing.

I heard midget maced the student section after the game . The students were trying to exit when the midget said he wanted them to overcome their boredom with winning and celebrate with the players. You know? Kind of like Auburn does naturally.

Ignorant defensive rant...

blah blah blah

You should understand, you're always whining about how some media outlet or somebody else is disrespecting Auburn. "ESPN is stupid", "SCREW ESPN", "I hate Jerry Palm"....al.com, etc.
Wah, wah, wah!

My thoughts exactly:
Auburn Gold Mine â€@AUGoldMine
Auburn in SEC: 1st in rushing; 2nd in total offense, sacks made, fewest sacks allowed, Red Zone offense and defense; 3rd scoring defense
-
My thoughts exactly:
Its amazing to see this considering last years embarrassment.

So you are saying Gus is going to pull the starters at the half against UT? Or do you only like to compare the two teams when Auburn is playing some shitty team while Bama is playing a conference rival?

I say he would if we were up by 30 points at the half. On the other hand, Sabinz has a returning starter at QB while Marshall has been on campus for four months. Leaving in the starters for Auburn is a bit different than leaving in the starters for the Turds.

Or maybe Saban was afraid a freshman running back was going to bust another 80 yard run for a touchdown in the final minutes, and felt it easier to not run the score up by throwing incompletions.
Or maybe Saban figured the best way to keep fans in the seats until the end of the game, was by not putting the black quarterback in until the very end of the game.
-
And for the record, McCarron had 9 pass attempts in the second half. Saban was really padding those stats.

5:00 mark of 2nd quarter seems I recall seeing the graphic that Tennessee had 15 or 16 plays while Alabama had 16 first downs The game was all but decided at the end of the first quarter.

I'm not saying it wasn't a beat down. But they weren't playing Georgia State. If starters came out every game Alabama went up 21 in, the backups would have more playing time than starters. It's Tennessee, maybe they aren't that good, but it's still a rivalry game the starters wanted to play in.
Kudos to Gus for pulling every single starter at the half against Florida Atlantic and Western Carolina. I expect to see starters pulled at the half against a shitty Arkansas and bad Tennessee in the next two weeks.

It's a tough call when your coach has emptied the bench and you're still breaking runs off on straight dive plays or in our case the Mildcat. We got sloppier as the game went on and the refs actually made it all the more painful by calling penalties but that also helped to slow the scoring to an extent with a running clock.
Urban Meyer though was going after style points Saturday.

Depends on the score.
Up 35-0 to start the second half? I'd expect to see starters for a series or two.
Your comment is very BGish.

Exactly.
If Auburn is up by 35 points to start the second half against Arkansas &/or UT, the starters will play for one or two more series, then the backups will get playing time (like Kaos stated). 4th qtr Auburn would be playing the 3rd string, walk-ons and a WR, on certain plays, at QB...That's a big "if".
-
Speaking of liberal substitutions, a friend of ours has a son, Reid Brooks, who is a walk-on defensive end. Unfortunately, we exited JHS with around 5:00 to go and didn't get to see that he got his first action at the end of the game. I believe he got in on punt coverage and a play or two on defense. Trust me, papa was grinning ear to ear about his son getting on the foosballz field for AU.

Your pissing him off.
