Title: Play Or Tap Out?
Post by: Snaggletiger on October 09, 2013, 12:12:07 PM
You're a 6'2" 200 pound cornerback coming off a sophomore season where you had 5 interceptions, 12 pass break-ups and 50 solo tackles. Or:

You're a 6'4" 220 pound QB who just finished his soph. season with 3,000+ yards passing and 26 TD's, or:

a 270 pound defensive end with 12 sacks, a butt-load of hurries and 22 tackles for loss.

You get the idea.

You're well aware of what the experts are saying about your potential in the NFL draft.  You've read the preseason mags that have you listed as one of the most "NFL ready" players in your conference.  For some reason, you even took note of Mel Kiper speaking highly of you.  So.....

Do you come back and play your junior season, or sit it out completely?  What say you...and why?

Having faced very similar type decisions in my life, I'm going to say yes. Why? Because that's just me. It's the kind of mam I am. (correction: should read man).

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Even sitting out you'll have enough money to live well.

It's either Lloyds of London insuring my signing bonus Plus 5 yrs in the league for every inch of my spectacular and luscious body (which won't be cheap) or I'm sitting baby. It's like Reuben Foster said. "It's a bidness decision". And yes, even if it is AU--whom I love and cherish the mostest--I gots to make mine.

I'm in the tap out camp myself.  I read an article yesterday about a HS junior seriously considering sitting out his senior season.  I think we're going to start seeing a lot of highly ranked college juniors doing the same.  I don't know if Clowney has been taking games off because of it or not, or if Corey Lemonier tanked it last year knowing he had good NFL potential.  But if that is/was their motivation, just tap out completely and call it what it is.

You play.  There is no substitute for game action.  Plus, if I'm a nfl gm, I am noticing your selfish attitude that will likely be a problem in the last year of your rookie contract.

No YOU play, bitch. I've already said I'm tapping out.

I can take that chance.  Here's the thing. I'm really taking about the elite players who pretty much know that they have first round sewn up.  Clowney at 6'6" 270+ might still have been the #1 pick if he sat out.  You go to college for a lot of things, but most importantly...if you use college for it's true purpose...you use it to set yourself up in life. To make the decision on what you want to do for the next 40+ years and how you're going to support yourself and/or your family.

Clowney used college and college athletics, to set himself up to make more in 2-3 years than 99% of us (Well, you people) will make in a lifetime of working.  Heard Gary Danielson yesterday say he's said all along Clowney should not have played because he's risking an initial $5-$10 million contract.  He need only look no further than his ex-teammate, Marcus Lattimore for help in making that decision.

Stephen A. Smith said something that made sense to me the other day (I know, weird).  He said he would have sat out, but once you say you're playing then you have got to go play.  No sitting out, go hard just like you would if you were trying to make the team.

Can't we get a booster to give him some money and film it?

You'd have to get an actor.  No booster could hand him money without bursting into uncontrollable laughter.

How much is Jake gonna get?

Depends on how well he works the Career Fair October 22.

60 companies there. I bet he can make a few interviews.

Auburn man and blah-blah.

The only way he gets into a stadium after Auburn is with a ticket or he is part of the grounds crew.

Maybe he could come back as a coach one day.  Surely he must be one of the greatest team leaders in history, because there's no other reason for him to be out there.

There is a position for him.

You tap out.

If you're really a Clowney type prospect, you're going to get drafted most likely in the top ten especially if he hits the combine and tests well.  Maybe a few GMs pass on you, but a team like Jacksonville or San Diego or some other team that desperately needs a playmaker will decide you're worth the risk.

Judas...you could just "like" my post.  At least,  I think you were agreeing...or in the parlance of the kids you could "big up" my post or even give me proper daps.

Apparently A LOT, he's been tapping out since he arrived (always felt he'd get better than the previous year and have always been shaking my head at the end of the season).
