Sports Illustrated's series on Oklahoma St. football: The Money http://t.co/qFFrYQdGMw
-
Two things:
1. Thayer Evans - I don't believe half the shit in that article.
2. Big fuckity whoop. Another program doing dirty shit and a halfassed investigation that will only be fueled by media attention. So far we've seen the exact same topics in Tuscaloosa and not one drip of a news story.
-
I am soooooo fucking tired of this type of shit.
Fuck Thayer Evans
Fuck Pete Thamel
Fuck Joe Schad
Fuck these hack journalists that want to find any detail at all to take down a program and raise their own fucking stock. Let's find some kid who never made it to the NFL and blames his former college team, because it is their fault. Not his fault because he isn't good enough.
-
Garbage.
I don't have strong feelings either way about Les Miles, but this is just garbage. It's essentially the same stories they tried to sell about AU that went nowhere.
Stories about "some guy" handing them cash. No way to verify, no way to prove. It's the "when did you stop beating your wife" question.
Stories about lockerroom drugs. Again, no way to prove or disprove. Some kid said. Yeah. My daughter once told me there was an octopus under her bed. I didn't call Cousteau.
Hostesses giving sex to the recruits. Didn't Finebaum and SportsbyBrooks giggle over that for months?
The bigger picture you're missing here is that this is STILL about us. Where did half Chizik's staff come from? Trooper? Luper?
That's right. OK State. During this period of excess.
This is just the circular method of tying it back to us AGAIN. Wait and see.
This merely proves they were all right about Auburn's thug culture all along.

Oh it's proper logic. Oklahoma is the main state school just like Alabama is the main state school. Oklahoma State had to cheat to catch up to Oklahoma so therefore, Auburn did too. How else did a perennial bottom dweller rise up to the BCS? Have you even heard of Auburn before? I didn't even know they were in the SEC until 2010. They're usually just that team Alabama beats at the end of the year and then disappears. They've never won anything. Havne't done anything of merit since the 50s when they had that one year. Of course they had to cheat.

Where was the rain of hellfire on Thayer Evans when he was throwing dirt, chicken bones and broken glass at Auburn?
http://www.tulsaworld.com/blogs/post.aspx/Jason_Whitlock_slams_SI_writer_Thayer_Evans/11-22173
It doesn’t surprise me there are sources in this story saying the reporting was heavy-handed and leading. I don’t want to make the whole thing about Thayer Evans, but there’s just no way to avoid it. I’ve worked with him. He’s simpleminded. He’s a hack that can’t write. This isn’t personal, I promise. I have no reason to dislike Thayer Evans personally, and I don’t. But I’ve read enough of his work this guy isn’t qualified for this job and by now Sports Illustrated and anybody else should be well aware of this. Type his name into Google, read his previous work, read how his previous work has been debunked and there’s just no surprise.
I hope they go Cam Newton. Remember when Cam Newton and his father were the worst thing on the planet. Oh my God. Thayer Evans was the leader of that. You would have thought Cam Newton was O.J. Simpson or Walter White. Cam Newton and his dad, who knows? Maybe they did want a couple of hundred thousand. More power to them. It’s America.
“ … Let me end by saying this and I honestly mean this without malice. It wouldn’t shock me if Thayer Evans couldn’t spell cat and I say that in all seriousness.â€
I want a Heisencam t-shirt. Why didn't we think of that?
And for the record? There's this from SI:
According to promo material distributed by SI, OSU was chosen for examination because the once-struggling program (11 losing seasons in 12 years) rose to national prominence, winning a Big 12 title and a BCS bowl in 2011.
Translation: What do mean getting uppity? Don't you know Oklahoma is the program in this state? Why were we investigated? We were getting uppity. Not allowed.
-
As a further parallel, they're dragging an OSU FCA director into it.
Sound familiar? Thayer and Selena went after Brother Chette years ago. Same noise.
We were uppity.
I am, as of today, an OSU fan. They are my second favorite college team. I hope they are cleared, I hope they play in the national championship game -- even if it's against Bama -- and I hope they destroy whoever they play.
Go Cowboys? Indians? What's their mascot?

Derp. Even in our defense, in a piece noting that Thayer is consistently full of shit, they couldn't entertain the idea that this might be bullshit too.

This is frankly disturbing.
So they're flat out saying that Bama, Oregon, Ohio State, Notre Dame, or any other media darling has free reign to cheat their ass off.
If you're not one of the chosen few, we'll find something to discredit you.

So they're flat out saying that Bama, Oregon, Ohio State, Notre Dame, or any other media darling has free reign to cheat their ass off.
I think that's it.
But I can't say it's a money thing. Is it a daddy issue? "We grew up watching dad root for Alabama and Notre Dame, so we want to protect that."
I can't figure it out. Auburn spends a fuckton of money on football. We are one of the main revenue makers in college football.
So what is it? Just general fanaticism?
-
Dang it man, you called that right on the money.
Was that the Finebaum line today? I never listen.

The speaking jobs for FCA area director John Talley and the certain jobs for the former Special Teams coach Deforest are the only things that are verified in that entire article. Talley & Deforest admitted to having players work for them. Talley admitted that he paid players for speaking engagements that were never cleared by the Ath. Dept., which is a NCAA Violation (iirc) and Deforest had players "work" for him, which also was never cleared by the Ath. Dept.
The rest is here and say.

I think it's all bs but it's a 5 part story that's breaking weekly.

I think it's all bs but it's a 5 part story that's breaking weekly.
Which to me is a prime example of why its bullshit.
If they had a solid story, they'd release it. Instead, they have a fictional piece which needs sequels to keep interest.
Every release will feature more and more allegations with weak evidence and people will need to tune in next week to get the actual proof.

Not that it will make a difference...

Jason Whitlock's Take:
“I have the obvious take (on the series) that I’m tired of these stories. We’ve been reading these stories for 30 years and I’m tired of people pointing out how corrupt participants are in a system that has been proven to be corrupt. The NCAA amateur system is corrupt, so we should not be surprised that there is corruption among the participants. I would like to see more of the focus on the NCAA and the system and fixing that, and then I’ll get upset about the corruption. I think the story is a cliché and bogus and suspect and just the wrong angle.
“But then in addition to that, having worked with Thayer Evans at Fox Sports, having followed his work for some time, I am completely and utterly flabbergasted that a legitimate news outlet would allow Thayer Evans to be involved in some type of investigative piece on college football that tears down a program, and particularly one that tears down Oklahoma State when it is no secret what a huge, enormous, gigantic Oklahoma homer Thayer Evans is. This is just incredible. Knowing the lack of competence that’s there with Thayer Evans, knowing the level of simplemindedness that’s there with Thayer Evans, to base any part of the story on his reporting is mind-boggling.
“ … When I learned Thayer Evans was involved, I just said, there’s no way I’ll read this because there’s no reason to trust this reporter on anything of any substance. If you go back and look at his track record of reporting and the consistent controversy that surrounds his reporting – he made a name for himself at the New York Times by writing these annual stories about some top high school football recruit that he would buddy up to, follow around with a tape recorder and then report what some immature 17-year-old kid said about the recruiting process. These kids tended to come from single-parent families with the mother working and busy, so there wasn’t the normal oversight and anybody with a brain could see the exploitation that was taking place. … It doesn’t surprise me there are sources in this story saying the reporting was heavy-handed and leading. Type his name into Google, read his previous work, read how his previous work has been rebunked and there’s just no surprise. This story will be shrouded in controversy.
“ … I can’t disparage (other writer George Dohrmann) because I have never worked with him. I have never seen any of his raw copy or anything like that. There are a brand of sports writers who love doing these investigative pieces. They are not hard to do these days in terms of so-and-so got this money under the table. We’re into this area where unnamed sources can say anything, any of these he-said, she-said stories. I don’t respect the entire brand of investigative journalism that is being done here. It’s not our job to go out and do NCAA policing.
“ … There’s some cute girl on campus who is a hostess who may have slept with one of these players. This has been going on for years and it goes on in the frathouses and the academic corruption they are going to talk about goes on in the frathouses and all across campus. We are singling out these athletes. It’s a good story. It will get you a promotion. It will get you on SportsCenter. It will get you talked about on this radio show and all over Twitter. But it’s bogus. It’s a trick for clicks.
“ … The story to me, from everything I have heard ... it just seems so suspect. If that’s the standard, it’s he-said, she-said. If you can say this booster walked up to me and gave me $500 in the locker room and you don’t have to name that booster, this story could be done at Ball State. It could be done at Rutgers. It could be done at UCLA. It could be done anywhere.
“ … I hope (the named parties) get off scot-free because I don’t think they have done anything wrong. They are probably sweating bullets because America is so stupid and the sports media is so stupid that we will call for something to happen or we will want something to happen or the NCAA is so stupid. Yes, they should be sweating because we are in that kind of stupid society of no one wants to correct this corrupt system. But, for me, I hope Oklahoma State wins every game and wins the national championship. Have they lost this year? I hope they go Cam Newton. Remember when Cam Newton and his father were the worst thing on the planet. Oh my God. Thayer Evans was the leader of that. You would have thought Cam Newton was O.J. Simpson or Walter White. Cam Newton and his dad, who knows? Maybe they did want a couple of hundred thousand. More power to them. It’s America.
“ … Let me end by saying this and I honestly mean this without malice. It wouldn’t shock me if Thayer Evans couldn’t spell cat and I say in all seriousness.â€

I am surprised, listening to talk radio yesterday there was a ton of pushback on this story.
Bill King
Arute and Chizik (that one is expected)
Chris Childers and Mark Packer
All basically saying this was a hit piece and didn't need to be written. What was the point? All of the players are past the NCAA statue of limitations. The story didn't make sense. A player was getting money but wasn't even playing?
I think everyone is tired of the bullshit.

Maybe ole T. Boone will throw a lot of money at exposing and ruining T. Evans!

Maybe ole T. Boone will throw a lot of money at exposing and ruining T. Evans!
There have been other media people contacted by OSU people, regarding Thayer Evans...I think Thayer has jumped onto, what he thought was a dirt mound, he'll soon find out that it's a Massive ant bed and he's about to be neck deep in it.
