Saban: WR Kenny Bell given 'personal day,' expected to return

Alabama wide receiver Kenny Bell caught fans off-guard Tuesday with an announcement that he was stepping away from football to focus on his family.
Nick Saban clarified the situation Tuesday evening, however, explaining that Bell was given a "personal day" and is expected to return on Wednesday.
Bell confirmed as much with a tweet early Tuesday evening:

An Alabama source told CBSSports.com's Jeremy Fowler that Bell notified the team of his intentions to quit. Per the source, Bell's decision to quit might have been tied to playing time.
The senior wide receiver played 12 games in 2012, starting three. He did not record a catch in the Crimson Tide's season opening win against Virginia Tech.
Bell was a four-star wide receiver out of Rayville, La., but has yet to break through as a permanent starter in the Tide's offense. He concluded his initial Twitter announcement by wishing the best to his teammates and seemed happy with his decision.
"I've been through so much I finally can say I'm happy," Bell wrote. "I know I'm going to lose so many friends and followers and get more negative talk from people but truth is I Dnt [sic] care."
Is this not bizarre? Players that publicly quit aren't allowed to leave? Saban pulls the "These are not the droids you're looking for" hand swipe and he's back on the team?
Meanwhile, they also just pulled in the #1 recruit in the country. Good to see those guys catch a break.

Alabama coach Nick Saban told reporters after practice Tuesday (via al.com) that he gave Bell a "personal day" off today and expected him to be back at practice on Wednesday. Saban also said he spoke with Bell and his mother about Bell's situation.
"There were some personal things he needed to iron out," Saban said, according to the Anniston (Ala.) Star. "I think he talked to his family about (them). I talked to his mom and we talked again today. I want Kenny to be happy. I'd love for him to be a part of the team if he can be happy doing that relative to any other personal responsibilities he has."
Bell did not catch a pass in the Crimson Tide's victory over Virginia Tech. For his career, he has 36 receptions for 682 yards and five touchdowns. He sat out the Southeastern Conference Championship game and the BCS National Championship Game last season after breaking his leg against Auburn.
Al.com reported that Bell received his undergraduate degree in December.

I wish he would, but then everybody would be all over him because he doesn't even allow his players to have Twitter accounts. What an asshole.
Sort of the same way he's an asshole for culling players from the program. But if one quits because he is supposedly unhappy with playing time, Saban is also an asshole for talking the kid down and working with him.
