SEC football schedule 2014: Auburn gets South Carolina, travels to Alabama, Georgia

The SEC released its 2014 football schedule Wednesday, the latest duct tape job thrown together in lieu of coming up with a permanent long-term scheduling solution. Auburn will retain its normal SEC West foes and face Georgia and South Carolina from the East.
In perhaps the biggest surprise of the announcement, Auburn will open the season against Arkansas. Yes, that's an SEC game to start the year. Can't say we've seen much of that before. After hosting both in 2013, the Tigers will play Alabama and Georgia on the road.
The complete 2014 schedule is as follows:
Aug. 30 ARKANSAS
Sept. 6 SAN JOSE STATE
Sept. 13 ** Open Date **
Sept. 20 at Kansas State
Sept. 27 LOUISIANA TECH
Oct. 4 LSU
Oct. 11 at Mississippi State
Oct. 18 ** Open Date **
Oct. 25 SOUTH CAROLINA
Nov. 1 at Ole Miss
Nov. 8 TEXAS A&M
Nov. 15 at Georgia
Nov. 22 SAMFORD
Nov. 29 at Alabama
Apparently, Bama is getting Florida as its rotation game.

With this schedule, I can see us improving as a team but still having a worse record than we have this year.
-
- The last time we opened with an SEC game was 1995. We won 46-13 against Ole Miss. We actually opened against Ole Miss from 1992-1995 and had a 3-1 record for openers during that span.
- The last time Amen Corner featured two away games was 1991. I'm counting Legion Field as an away game. We lost both games.
- Amen Corner featured two away games in 1987, and we won both.
- Every odd year from 1961 until 1987, Amen Corner featured two away games. We won both only three times. We lost both 11 times.
- Coach Snyder will hopefully retire or regretfully have passed away of old age by the time we travel to Manhattan.
- If Ole Miss continues to improve under Hugh Freeze, we could be staring at facing 5 ranked teams out of our last 6 to finish the year. Three of those games will be away games.
In other SEC schedule notes...
- LSU has the most favorable schedule. They open with Wisconsin in Houston (will be a home game for LSU). Then they have 3/4 games against cupcakes with Miss State at home squeezed in. Then they travel to AU and travel to Florida. If they can get through Auburn and Florida, they will have open dates prior to the Alabama game and prior to the Texas A&M game.
- I'd say Florida has a murderous schedule. In addition to the SEC East teams, they get LSU at home and travel to Tuscaloosa. Plus their annual Florida State game.

Didn't realize USCe & Arkansas are no longer inter-divisional rivals.
Now it's Arkansas-Mizzou & A&M-USCe.
I suppose that makes more sense both historically and geographically in Arkansas's case.
Makes sense in terms of level of perennial parity in both cases.
A&M-USCe are basically on opposite ends of the earth.
