Nope, not a rumor. "Frazier asked to be moved to Safety, to help the team. Frazier loves Auburn, cares about his teammates & they care about him." - Coach Malzahn.

*** Newcomers Jeremy Johnson and Nick Marshall will get the majority of the first-team snaps at quarterback this week. That doesn't mean Jonathan Wallace is out of the race, but Kiehl Frazier is out of the race. Surprising move with Frazier. He wanted to move to safety and Malzahn agreed. The move appears to be permanent. He is now a "full-time" safety. "I'm very proud of Kiehl Frazier. He's a winner, a class act," Malzahn says.

If this is legit and it seems so, hats off to KF for putting team needs above his own wants. I bet a certain GA coach named Kodi had a hand in talking him through that transition.

Read this in the link above: "Malzahn said it was Frazier's idea to move to safety after a discussion with the coaches Sunday.

Class move, KF. Just like Woody Harellson in Wildcats. "Guess I ain't the starting quarterback no more. Have I ever told you how good a slot back I am?"

And for the record I'm ALL IN for Jeremy Johnson. I'd actually like to see how Nick Marshall could work as WR/Slot guy. Get the best athletes on the field.

I had heard rumors earlier in the week the Frazier was looking to be the #3 QB at best and they were talking about moving him to a WR position. If I am not mistaken, he was recruited by some colleges for his work in the secondary. I still would not be surprised to see him line up as WR during the season. Who knows, he could be the next Deon Sanders.

AUBURN, Ala. — Junior college transfer Nick Marshall and freshman Jeremy Johnson have emerged as the frontrunners for the starting quarterback job at Auburn in a shakeup at the position that saw Kiehl Frazier move to safety.

Coach Gus Malzahn made that call Monday night, opting for two quarterbacks who have never taken a snap at Auburn over two that shared the starting job last year. Marshall and Johnson will get the first shot at the starting job this week. Sophomore Jonathan Wallace could join the race for the starting job later, Malzahn said.

Mahlzan said Marshall and Johnson earned the chance to continue to vie for the starting job based on their fall practice performances.

Malzahn stopped short of naming a starter, but Marshall and Johnson moved ahead of Frazier and Wallace.

Marshall, who accounted for 37 touchdowns last season at Garden City Community College in Kansas, is considered a dual-threat quarterback. Johnson was the State of Alabama's Mr. Football last season at Carver High in Montgomery. He has a exceptionally strong arm, and passed for 31 TDs last year.

Johnson passed for 3,193 yards last season, but he didn't stop there. He also rushed for 705 yards and seven TDs. He passed for more than 8,200 yards in his career at Carver.

Marshall could become one of the more compelling stories of the football season, considering he played a full season at Georgia as a defensive back before leaving for Garden City where he became junior college quarterback stat machine.

He passed for 3,142 yards and 18 touchdowns. He rushed for 1,095 yards and 19 touchdowns.

He's from Pineview, Ga., where he threw for 103 touchdown passes, a Georgia High School Association record.

Malzahn recruited Frazier out of their home state of Arkansas in 2011 when he was the Tigers' offensive coordinator. Frazier came with plenty of promise as USA Today's Offensive Player of the Year. He threw 12 passes as a freshman, but mostly ran, finishing as Auburn's third-leading rusher with 327 yards as Malzahn's Wildcat quarterback. He started five games in the middle of the season last year, hitting 62-of-116 passes for 753 yards and eight interceptions and two TDs.

Malzahn said it was Frazier's idea to move to safety after a discussion with the coaches Sunday.

"He loves Auburn. He loves his teammates and his teammates love him," Malzahn said.

Wallace didn't play until the fourth game last year as a rookie and didn't throw a pass until Game 7. But he started the final four games, compiling a 2-2 record. He set an Auburn freshman record for passing efficiency.  He hit 46-of-80 passes for 720 yards and four touchdowns. He also threw four interceptions.

He's from Central High in Phenix City.

Kiehl Frazier is the most heavily recruited high school athlete in Arkansas history. In the fall he'll be vying for the starting quarterback position at Auburn University, the country's best college team. But achieving his dream -- becoming a starting quarterback in the NFL -- requires a lot more than just putting up numbers on...

If there's any positives in a former HS All American QB moving to defense, I guess it's that Gus is making decisions on the QB battle without fucking around, and that KF has enough desire to contribute that he's willing to give it a shot where he can help the most.  Making this move this early surely has to mean that we're going to see something like QB play from the 2 new kids left in the race for #1?

I am happy he will not be taking snaps behind center.

That said... it's a shame it didn't work out for him. Like I have said with Jake, all of these kids are Auburn men and they try their hardest to be gladiators out on the field.   I want them all to succeed but sometimes it just isn't in the cards.

I am happy that Frazier is staying with us.  Hopefully he will be able to contribute the way Kodi Burns did.

As I've said, I really thought he'd be the answer last year.  Kept pulling for it to click for him.  It just never did.  When you get replaced by someone who's only positive attribute is a perfect fetal position every time....you need to rethink your future.

Hope it works out for Kadril as a DB.

Me too. When he was a fresh and was the hottest name on campus, he took some time with my boys before an A day and there wasn't an ounce of pretentiousness in him.Very mature for his age. Unfortunately, their qb careers will likely end in similar fashion.

But KF is mature enough that I think he can see pt at safety and s.t. I sure hope so.

Normally this would be no big deal. But due to the lack of talent we have had at QB recently and the fact that kallel seemed to be pushed on us while most fans could see he just did not get it, well, it brings a sigh of relief to many.

I remember back in the stone age when I was on college. We had some pretty good QBs who never saw the field for AU. Could they have played elsewhere? Sure. But most stuck it out and knew that being on scholly at AU meant you had to compete with some of the best. And there are times when you lost.

Here lately, starting with KB, we as fans have been forced to try and believe in QBs that just were not ready for SEC football. Hell, I remember seeing Cam at A day and thinking I hope he is better than this. Trotter actually looked better that day.

But for some reason, we have been in a broken cycle at AU at QB the last couple of years. I would love to see NM do well for a couple of seasons and then have JJ tear it up for a couple of more. and have that cycle continue every 2 years.

Here's to Kadilla  being an awesome S.

No, What I was saying is that xCGC hamstrung him so bad that he was not allowed to coach the way he wanted. They had to practice they game plan for the games.

I have no clue what ultimately happened with Kadreel.  I recall watching him throw a lot of passes in a scrimmage his freshman year and thought

This guy couldn't hit my wide ass from 3 yards away.  Obvious he didn't progress much through the season because after a handful of passes, they only let him dance around in the mildcat.  I pulled for the guy to step up last year but whether it was bad corching, bad offensive game plan, a bad case of gout...he just didn't.

I think the move was made simply because there is no separation between him and Wallace but more importantly, the two other guys that came in are just better than both of them.  Everyone has said Marshall is easily the fastest/quickest and by all accounts, has the strongest arm.  Lashlee has said time and again that he and Johnson are neck and neck and they still can't decide between the two. JJ is a 6'5" stud who can do it all and hopefully, he's the future at QB for us.  Bottom line, Kashewl is a Junior that would be 3rd on the depth chart at best.  He wants playing time so he's agreeable to making the switch and try his hand as a DB.

Gus got to coach him individually, for the most part, like he always has.  He was hamstrung from running his offense as fast as he wanted.  That had little effect on KF's ability IMO.

KF simply can't play QB at this level.  I doubt there's a coach out there that could make him able to.

High school yes but we also saw him keeping the ball off tackle as the "Wildcat QB" v. SEC D's.
He could become a part of the rotation as soon as he pushes Fisher aside. (all others it seems have)
I'm thinking he really shines here for some odd reason. Enough speed, large frame and studious . Should be able to read QB's right?
Like an extra coach on the field...:awesome:
