I am trying to be a realist. I know how bad we were last year. I know that I wasn't thrilled when we hired Gus. I know that we had the worst offense and defense I have ever seen at Auburn last year as well...
So why am I getting a little excited? Why do I feel like there is a little hope? Why do I feel like 8 wins is a possibility with the chance of shocking someone we didn't get within 38 points of last year?
A reporter asked Bray if the team's goals this season included a bowl trip.
He flashed a puzzled expression.
"Bowl game? We're shooting for national champs," the junior said. "Three-and-9 last year doesn't mean anything to us. We work hard to be national champs right now. Anybody doubting us right now is (doing) what they're supposed to do, but we know we worked hard for it. We're trying to get out the best results from what we put in."
I am not quite this confident, however, I hope that Gus has the guys going in the right direction. If Marshall can play, we really might have a shot at doing what I hope we can...

Bonerz. Realistic or not, that's absolutely the attitude I want our guys to have.
I'm with you. Have been all summer. A bowl game is a given, IMO. 7 total wins is my bar. Only six and I'm disappointed. 8 or more and I'm stoked. I tend to believe that I am not setting myself up for disappointment.
-
We're all playing for 2nd place.
At least that's what "Terry", the 60 year old, backwoods Bammer told us this morning on the radio.
"It's awwll over four it even starts. The only thang that kin beat Bamah, is Bamah. My sources tells me Saybinz got them boys red-ee an theyz better then lass yearz team."
-
I'm officially calling 8 regular season wins now.
-
Are you all out of your minds?
If Nick Marshall is at least a Brent Schaefer, then maybe seven wins are assured.
But this team was bad last year. Really fucking bad. It's going to take a monumental coaching effort and complete revolution in our players to turn this around in one year.
I think 6-6 at best. No losses by 21 or more points.
-
Sorry to disappoint, but................I'm on the 8 wins band wagon too. Yes, I agree, it has much to do with who is at QB. However, I believe the right Auburn football mentality of the hard hat wearing hard work type has been re-birthed. You mix that with Coach Malzahn and the rest of the Auburn coaching staff, I feel great about 8 wins with a solid bowl game.
Also, how sweet it would be to defeat the Crimson Tahd War Diddies with Coach Sabynz headed to Longhorn country soon after..........It should be illegal to have a hard on this big.
Of course, I've been guilty of being a bit of an optimist from time to time.
-
Jeebus, after the shots we used to take at Bama, saying "You've become Ole Miss", I hate to say that I'm hoping for something similar to what they did last year.
Anyone recall 2-10 in 2011? New Corch that runs the Malzahn type, up-tempo offense. New staff, new attitude. Competitive in just about every game. ( I seem to recall Texas putting one on them) Bowl game and the best recruiting class they've ever had to follow it up. Sorry, but that's what I'm hoping for. 2-10 to a bowl game is pretty stout. I think 3-9 to a bowl game would be awesome as long as we're competitive in all our games.

Come on in Nookie, all the kool kids are doin it.

I am looking for 9 wins. We'll know what were really looking at after the first game. We blow them out, we'll be ok. We kick a field goal to win in overtime  we lose :suicide:

Fuck you bunch of conceding motherfuckers.
14-0 until it's not possible.

Ehh...I'm just trying to survive Obamacare and not be labeled racist.
Football is just a distraction from everything that sucks right now.

Certainly can't knock the kid for having a good outlook, but you should probably figure out who your QB will be before you start airing such lofty expectations to the public.

Damn it. We roll 6 5 4 3 2 deep at that position

If you have the players and yes we do, the next step is the weight room and conditioning.
What's probably the worst things a HC can do with a team full of studs? Lack of discipline, lack of proper strength training and lack of proper conditioning...that takes time to show itself, especially since most of the starters for the '09 & '10 were under a HC that wasn't lacking in any of that, so they still had that habit of busting their asses in everything they did...for the '10 season you combine that with the Silverback Gorilla style of play in a JUCO DT (Nick Fairley) and the Superman style of play in a QB (Cameron Newton).
So, after all of those players leave (nearly every starter and some 2nd string guys), you're left with a new group of starters that've come up with a HC that is lacking in those things that I stated earlier. We could see it all over the field slowly beginning to show itself starting with the '09 season and culminating with the '12 season.
Now, we have a new staff, including the strength staff, a new attitude, a new way of doing things, and a new determination (all of that starts from the HC on down)...Oh yeah and we have the Sand Pit.
So, going off of what the players have been saying, I'm gonna call that a Revolution in our players, both physically and mentally.
As for the coaches, replacing DL Coach Mike Pelton with Charlie Garner (Absolutely HUGE Upgrade). DC Ellis Johnson, CB Melvin Smith, S Charlie Harbison, WR Dameyune Craig, RB Tim Horton, QB Rhett Lashlee are all great coaches that've produced A LOT of talented players...and they've all coached or played with each other, so they have the familiarity connection.
I know this had been talked about adding nauseum, but I feel that this staff and team can accomplish something special.
God Damn I'm ready for some FUCKIN FOOTBALL!!!!

I'm thinking 5 wins, 6 if we win the bowl game.

I'm saying 8, maybe 9, including the bowl game.

I think most of us fall between you and Jumbo, not so much for what we have or don't, but because the others were on the upswing with some veteran leadership while we were trending in reverse.
Not saying it can't be overcome just that we might be in a few scraps and could come up a wee bit short on the scoreboard.
State is the ideal test at game 3 and I like the way Tennessee falls on the schedule after they are softened up some.
-

Speak for yourself jmar. That's gross.

Wish I shared half the optimism many of you do. If this team wins all the NonConf. games, plus beats Ole Miss, MSU, Ark., and UT, doesn't get blown out by anybody, we can see some hope they found a QB that can play at this level, and some semblance of a defense, then it's been a wildly successful season IMHO.
Until I see some glimmer of hope at QB and on Def., then this team is lucky to go .500+. It's going to take at least one player on each side of the ball emerging this season, like Nick Fairley did in 2010, as a complete big time surprise to get to any more than 8 wins. And if you look at a potential 8 win season, and our schedule, there's 8 potential wins there without beating anybody worth a shit.

I like to see Jummy's man boobies jiggle.

I'm leaning more towards 9-3 (10-3 with the bowl game).

The anomaly of this season is the first half of LSU, so I'm going 13-1. There is nothing that I've seen to make me think anyone can stop us on O but ourselves. And we may certainly do that but I'm liking our chances.
I won't be disappointed in this season if we lose 3 more but I will be surprised if we lose more than 1 for the remainder of the schedule.
-
Verrrry cautiously optimistic. LSU was the point where I thought this offense might turn out to be pretty damn good. Most people who didn't pay attention to the game just thought, "Oh LSU jumped out to a big lead and coasted." They looked at AU with right at 430 yards of offense and figured it was just Auburn flinging the ball around, playing catch-up.
Nay Nay
AU stuck by it's game plan and that was probably the most balanced attack we've had all season. A break or two like we gave them early and a correct call on an on-sides kick.....probably 8-0.
I see our offense now with an identity and playmakers across the board. I think we can put 30+ on everyone except Bama. Not totally convinced there yet either. Malzahn seems to have them somewhat...somewhat figured out. At least enough to do more than what their other opponents have done. I think our D is getting better, little by little. That's the part I'm really worried about.

I'm not saying we are gonna beat Bama but it's starting to feel more and more like 1989. I'm gonna buy me some new parachute pants.
