AUBURN, Alabama -- Finding a starting quarterback is Auburn's No. 1 priority heading into the start of fall camp on Aug. 2, and both Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee clearly want to name a starter as soon as possible.
With that in mind, Lashlee's toughest task this fall might be making sure each quarterback gets enough reps to get a proper evaluation.
"I'm going to have to get creative in maybe the way we put them in certain situations, just to make sure," Lashlee said. "All four guys are going to get a fair and equal shot."
And even though Kiehl Frazier and Jonathan Wallace seemingly have a head start after going through the spring, Nick Marshall and Jeremy Johnson haven't lost any ground heading into fall camp.
Lashlee expects both to have the basics of the offense down after offseason work in the film room and captain's practices.
"There's not a big difference between coming in late June and coming in the first session," Lashlee said. "I think if you get in during the summer and you can have a couple of weeks -- which they're all getting -- to work out with our guys, then they're at least going to be exposed to the basic things that we do."
For more on Lashlee's comments about the quarterback situation, check out the video above.

Exit stage left, Messrs. Frazier and Wallace.
Not that I'm rooting for that to happen. I actually had hope that Wallace could rise up and take the job. But Lashlee has telegraphed Marshall's starting spot.

I really don't ever want to see the Cocoa Panda again.

" Malzahn wants a starter to emerge as soon as possible, telling reporters at SEC Media Days that Chris Todd's nine-day blitz to winning the job in 2009 was key to the offense's quick start that season."

We had a preview of our man Todd even though he was playing injured, but enough evidence that he could do the job if repaired.
IMO:
Frazier might have full knowledge of the offense but it just doesn't translate on the field.
Wallace gives his very best however in this league he is but a serviceable backup. The fan in me wants him on the field, just not as our full-time QB.

To be fair all those errant throws in the Spring telegraphed it for Frazier/Wallace too.

I agree. I am rooting for Wallace, mainly because you can see he's giving it his all; however, I'm still pinning my hopes on Marshall's ability to come in and wow everybody in the first 2 weeks of summer camp.

I'm pinning my hopes on Cindy Crawford and Jennifer Anniston getting drunk and wanting to make a WiregrassTiger sammich.

Honestly, I think we only need to have a QB that is a leader and game manager. Nothing spectacular. I am expecting to see some resemblance of the old days of Auburns "run it down your throat until you stop it" type offense. With Prosch, Payne, Mason and Grant, I can certainly see that happening.
However, Marshall imo is much more that just serviceable. He has skillz.

Uhm...Clark, Malzhan doesn't produce "game managers" at QB. Chris Noodle Todd broke many a passing record. Those dudes at Tulsa made scoreboards tilt. Don't blame the flameout of 2011 AU QBs on him - that was the Chiz.
Malzhan wants guys who are smart and aggressive at quarterback and for that matter, so do I.
Game managers can take a flying leap at a rolling doughnut on a gravel driveway.

Yes I agree, but you missed the point. With the the guys in the backfield, any more than just a game manager at QB is a huge plus.

Why must you hurt me so. I'm going to be the best QB in the history of the NFL, just you wait. Game managers is what they want!!!
