Title: CAP Top 5
Post by: Snaggletiger on June 18, 2013, 02:30:41 PM
Danny Kanell feels that Cameron Artimus Pyle will be one of the top 5 newcomers this year.  I suxx at the talent evaluators and have no idea how he'll do.  I just know I liked all the film I saw on the guy and loved the way he ran in the Spring. To me, he and Mason have two totally different running styles.  Mason hits the hole, cuts, dances, bounces off and drags his way to an 8 yard gain.  Payne seems to see where he wants to go and heads that way in a straight line as fast as he can go.  Both effective runners.  Nice to see one of the analysts thinks we have a good one.  cops-n-pastas al.kum

Auburn will count on a few newcomers to help with depth next season, but no player will be bigger than running back Cameron Artis-Payne, says ESPN analyst Danny Kanell.

The former Florida State quarterback ranks Artis-Payne, a junior college transfer, No. 3 on his list of the nation's top five newcomers.

"Remember another college transfer just a few years ago? One Cam Newton?" Kanell said Monday on ESPN's College Football Live. "Remember what he did? They have huge expectations for Cameron Artis-Payne, MVP of their A-Day spring game. He can catch it out of the backfield. Him and Tre Mason, together, can be a good 1-2 punch."

Artis-Payne rushed for 117 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries, and also caught two passes for 47 yards in the Tigers' A-Day spring scrimmage on April 20. He enters the summer as the Tigers' No. 2 running back behind Mason, who rushed for 1,002 yards in 2012.

The Tigers expect a lot out of Artis-Payne, who rushed for 2,048 yards and 25 touchdowns last season at Allan Hancock Junior College, in the fall.

"Cameron is special. He's special," quarterback Jonathan Wallace said in April. "He's going to open up a lot of eyes this fall and just as long as he continues to work hard, a lot of good things will happen for him."

Freshman defensive end Carl Lawson was listed among Kanell's top 10 newcomers, but did not make the cut for his top five.

I would very much like to see somebody on this team step up and be 1/2 (or 38%) the surprise Cam was.

I like this name, it sounds like he should be trying to go around the world in 80 days in a balloon with Jackie Chan.
