I have a sneaking suspicion that, without Joeckel, Johnny Football is going to get broken in half this year.

I kept thinking the same thing last year.

I thought, no way will this kid make it through the SEC worth a shit. He did.

I thought, this guy has had a good season, but Alabama's defense will rip him apart. They didn't.

I thought, this guy has gotten cocky after winning the Hiesman and aTm will get smashed by Oklahoma. Nope.

No way this guy can complete 27 of 29 passes blind folded. Yes...yes he can.

I don't doubt the kid at all anymore. He was the best QB I have seen play college ball outside of Cam Newton.

Yeah...he did all of that with a stud LT protecting him.

Yeah...he did all of that with a stud LT protecting him.

He has another one to protect him too.  That Jake kid is no joke.

My issue with Texas A&M is that they lost their starting center, three key receivers and a running back.  Plus on defense they lost their starting DT, two linebackers, and two DBs.  Those linebackers were crucial to their defense working.

Johnny Foosballz is a damn good QB in a system that already makes even average QB's extremely productive.  See Chris Todd and just about any QB that Gus Malzahn has corched.  A&M got a great find in Sumlin and he lucked out in having the absolute perfect fit for his system.

One difference is that unlike so many other "system" QB's, I think Manzeil can be damn good at the next level.

Take the 1st quarter away from that bama game and he was pretty avg.

Just fyi - Post wasn't about the game or who won, etc. It was about how Manziel performed. After a quarter, they had him figured out. He's not unstoppable as some think.

I'm still sticking to my opinion that Alabama takes a huge shit in their front yard this season.  Watch for Alabama to blitz the shit out of him this time, since rushing 4 didn't really seem to work out well last time.

If I were putting my hard earned money on this game, thats exactly how I would bet. I think wes nailed it with the joekel post. A running qb is a lot more effective with a good OL (see cam newton).

2010 was IMHO, the best overall offensive line Auburn has ever had.  Not saying it had the most NFL ready talent.  Apparently it didn't.  Just a talented group of guys who had played together since freshmen.  They made a huge difference in Cam's success and had he been dumb enough to come back for his senior season, he'd have most likely been pavement pizza behind that line.

I do think Manziel is a special talent and I also think he makes it at the next level. And he might struggle this year with some of the losses on offense.  Let's face it, he could have a killer year by any standards and still look like he's struggling after the numbers he put up last year.

I would have to cordially disagree.  I believe the 2005 offensive line is the best.

His team beat them. I'm unfamiliar with Manziel doing it by himself.

Just for shits and giggles, Aggy yardage by quarter vs the tahhhggdd:

182 , 60,  74,  102

Don't think other DCs aren't looking at that film from the end of 1st quarter on. I just don't think the guy is going to be as effective without both of his star O linemen.

The Aggy defense also made some key interceptions during the year. They didn't get a lot of credit.

So Alabama can make adjustments, but aTm can't gameplan or watch film prior to the game?

I don't know if aTm will be as good as last year, but Manziel is a fucking bad ass QB...

I agree. I don't know what you guys saw, but I saw a SPUAT D break down the O-line of aTm and then a QB scrabble around making folks miss him like he was covered in grease something. Johnny Football will assist in another bammer defeat this year, at least that's what I hope. This hope is primarily due to the gizzum I had all over the place after the final score, and that shit feels good. That and I loathe SPUAT.

No doubt he's a bad motherfucker.  I just think that Alabama shot themselves in the foot alot in that game.  Some of that aTm caused, some of that was hangover from a tough LSU game the week prior IMO.  I also think that Alabama had a poor game plan going into that game.  Saban normally doesn't get embarassed twice in a row, and I think that he will have them ready to teabag the Aggies this time around.

Oh, I agree.

I just don't think he's the superman many make him out to be. I don't think he's Cam and even with Cam a stellar OL was very key. Not rooting against the guy or anything. I hope they beat Bama. Just not sure they will.

21-0 after 10 mins is a big hole to dig out of in an SEC matchup. Not everyone can do what Cam did in November 2010  :poke:

If that (blitzing) is the gameplan then the updykes better be disciplined in their rush lanes. One bad step and that white boy will be running right by that ass.

Honestly I don't think what happened last year had shit to do with updykes but had more to do with Manziel's athletic ability at QB and the frantic pace of aTm's offense. The reason Lord short dick didn't blitz as much is because the emphasis was on getting line up correctly and not being out of position due to the pace. Of course if he keeps bitching about it enough I'm sure the asswipes on the rules commitee will start giving teams all the time they need to substitute on defense due to "safety concerns" of course.

SEC meetings: Possible rule change could slow Auburn's offense
By Charles Goldberg, AuburnTigers.com
DESTIN, Fla. — Arkansas coach Bret Bielema doesn't play Gus Malzahn and Auburn's fast-paced offense until the ninth game of the season, but he knows how to slow it down.

Put in a rule that stops the clock to allow for defensive substitutions.

Bielema, who came to Arkansas from Wisconsin, has served on the NCAA rules committee, and one of the things it kicked around was slowing down offenses in the interest of safety.

Bielema, a Big Ten run-the-clock guy, concedes he doesn't run an offense that is fast paced.

"We want to run the ball. We want to maintain the clock…"

Auburn will want to go a lot faster than that in 2013. Not Bielema.

"There is a lot of truth that the way offensive philosophies are driven now there are times you can't get a defensive situation in for eight, 10, 12-play drives," he said. "That has an effect on safety of that student-athlete, especially the bigger defensive linemen."

His idea for change?

"Every first down you get a 15-second substitution which would slow down offenses that want to go fast. Most offenses that are high tempo want to play as fast as you can because it limits defensive calls."

Is a rule change being considered?

"Oh, yeah. It's out there," he said.

In the meantime, Bielema is working on molding Arkansas in his image.

"It's going to take a little bit of time, especially up front. There hasn't been a huge emphasis on big and strong up front. We'll gradually grow that position.

And Bielema grows into the SEC.

"I jumped into recruiting the SEC, and that little label that's on all you guys' credentials has a lot of draw. We went into the schools that are traditionally SEC powers in the South, and even in New Jersey, kids want to play in the SEC. A kid in Chicago wants to play in the SEC. A kid in Milwaukee wants to play in the SEC. That's a driving force. We're really trying to tap into it," he said.

Another of his newcomer observations: "The SEC is trying to make it a league where it's very difficult to get junior college players. That's a mark that league itself is on the front end of. If you weren't a qualifier in high school, it makes it difficult to get in."
