Heard this morning that Troy is supposed to make an announcement sometime before lunch on a new home and home series. The talk show host said it would be big news and cause some real excitement in the State. They already play UAB and I believe South is on the schedule as well. Any possibility we finally agreed to play them? Don't know if we'd ever do that on a home and home basis, but I think it's long past time that we play them. I've never really understood why we don't/won't. I've heard their former AD say we've had an open invitation on the table for some time.
-
I would love to see it. Makes for a good business decision for both schools and good for the state, imo. Good, unless we lose.
And, anyone who thinks that Troy is a push over is kidding themselves. I don't think most AU fans think that. There have been seasons in the last 15 yrs that they very easily could've beaten either AU or UA.
-
Would doubt this is happening.
They are probably adding Jacksonville State back on the schedule since that is the traditional rival for Troy from back in the D2 days.
-
I hope not. I don't want to give Troy any relevance...

Considering we are fighting for our own relevance after the Chizik era, I agree with this as well.

This would make sense because that used to be a pretty big deal for both schools.

If they are watching film from last year they are looking at us for their homecoming.

Win and you're supposed to have won by a larger margin.
Lose and you lost to fucking Troy.
Bad move.

If we were in the position that Bama is in right now, I'd say throw 'em a bone.
But we're not. We'd very likely lose to them. And that would be a disaster.

Troy turns the ball over quite a bit. Not that last year's Auburn team could have done anything with that but at least there'd be opportunities.

Lose and you lost to fudgeing Troy.

Like LSU lost to UAB. Like Meeechigan lost to Appy St. It happens. It would hurt worse being in state, yes. But UGA ain't skeered of in state schools. UF has thrown some bones too. It would be good for the state.
-
It would be good for the state.
Uh...fuck the state.

Please to be explaining this potential disaster should we play Troy.
Any more embarrassing than pulling it out of the fire against La. Monroe? More embarrassing than the Tahd's loss to them?
Troy takes on all comers like Vandy Vol. Have for years and occasionally, they whip that ass. Last year, they had no business losing to MSU (Who beat us like a red-headed stepchild). Lost 30-24. Dropped one to UT on a miraculous catch and run, 55-48.
If we should drop a game to Troy, it means we're not even close to where we should be as a program. We'd deserve the same point and laugh as Arky did last year. It's not like suddenly, all the top recruits are going to start heading to Troy and we're left with kids who "camp well". I'd just much rather head to the Planes to watch an OOC game the State is buzzing about and the stadium is packed as opposed to playing New Eastern Slippery Rock Tech University.

Since we're talking about Troy....I'll have to put a Trojan on it first.

You're clearly too close to the situation to understand.

Because, the Finebaums, and even the moderately less inflammatory in-state media would declare that Troy is the "New #2" program in the state. The campaign to flip-flop the relative statuses of Auburn and Troy in the football world would begin. Slippery slope being they end up joining the Big East or some shit like that, and ESPN dubs them the only other program in the state worthy of being referred to as Bama's rival.
It's not as if any of those players in the above scenario would be in any way reluctant to campaign for our demise/national irrelevance.

This. I will add that we've lost and come close to losing to worse programs. Troy has taken a lot of better teams than we prob are right now to the wire. (Nebraska, FSU, Miami come to mind) And, they did beat MSU one year.
I've seen Div 1AA Ga. Southern take us till the final minutes of the 4th--I believe on 2 different occassions but I'm sure of 1. Troy IS Div 1A--just like us. Can't get any higher. A loss would sting but so does a loss to la monroe or Southern Miss.
I think it would be exciting and good for both schools. Plus, I feel we owe it to Coach Blakeney. Still, it woul surprise me if JJ has the guts to do it.

Troy and Boise State Ink Home-and-Home Football Series; Complete '14 Non-Conference Schedule

TROY, Ala. – Troy University has signed its second major home-and-home football series this calendar year as Troy and Boise State will meet in 2017 and 2018, Troy Athletics Director John Hartwell announced Tuesday. Troy announced a home-and-home series with Duke in January.
Troy will open the 2017 season at Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho, on Sept. 2, 2017, and Boise State will make the return trip to Veterans Memorial Stadium to open the 2018 season on Sept. 1, 2018.
“This is another marquee matchup that is exciting for both our fans and our football program,†Hartwell said. “Boise State has been one of the most successful teams in the country recently and this series will further enhance Troy's image in the national football spotlight. It is important to our football program to schedule these types of games and we will continue to seek out series like this and the one with Duke in the future.â€
Boise State will join a long list of non-conference opponents who have played at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Troy has hosted the likes of Missouri, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State and Navy in recent years and will play host to Duke in 2014.
Hartwell also announced the addition of Abilene Christian to the 2014 non-conference schedule. Abilene Christian will move up to NCAA Division I affiliation and join the Southland Conference on July 1, 2013. The Wildcats will visit Veterans Memorial Stadium on Sept. 13, 2014.
The rest of Troy's 2014 non-conference schedule includes a home game against Duke on Sept. 6 and road games at UAB on Aug. 30 and South Carolina on Nov. 22.

Here's a couple notes to hang on to: will either be in the current conference by 2017-2018 and will either head coach still be there?

No, it's good for Troy. And fuck "owing" anyone a game.
Color me not shocked that the Dothan delegation supports this idea.

They already do all of this. Have for years. How can they be Bama's rival if Bama refuses to play them in anything? We have forever in just about every single sport except football. Y'all skeer'd

Troy has more to gain, yes. Why do you think UGA would play Ga Southern? The better question is, if you're going to play someone who has more to gain than you do anyway--why not make it an in state school? It's good business to me.
As far as Coach Blakeney goes--he took a bullet for Auburn and did it the old fashioned way. He took it like a man. I will say it in a different manner. I think that we owe Coach Blakeney gratitude and this would be a nice notch in his coaching legacy.

Playing Troy as opposed to Chattanooga generates a hell of a lot more revenue for the program. Full ass stadium for starters.
Just off the top of my quickly balding head, I believe Troy has played:
Nebraska
Miami
Clemson
LSU
Tennessee
Ohio State
Oklahoma State
Iowa State
Georgia
South Carolina
Miss. State
Arkansas
Florida
Florida State
They have games already scheduled with Miss. State, Ole Miss and South Carolina in the next 3 years and now with Boise State. But somehow, it would be a bad thing for us to schedule them because we're worried about how the media would turn on us should we lose? Yeah, that would be something different.

Breaking News:
Auburn has scheduled the Klexion University for a home and home series in 2073...should be interesting. I heard the Klexion race are pretty strong and they have some speed, hope we don't get embarrassed.

Pfffffft....Klexion has never even produced a 1,000 yard rusher and their defensive lines have always been severely undersized. We'd hang 7 to 10 on em' by halftime.

I don't owe Blakeney shit, but that is another story.
There is no reason to NOT play Troy. But bring them to JH every season. I can't see it being a home and home. They just could not handle the volume.
If you can't beat them, then you deserve to be mocked. Why waste energy and money bringing in a school from another state when you have an opponent that is as good or better than the one you bring in. Many Troy fans are bamturds anyway. What better way than to break their hearts twice a season!

Some discussion earlier over how playing Troy might open us up to ridicule from the media if the outcome wasn't good for AU. I post some stuff from al.com if it's informational. Not looking for or picking out strictly the AU nob schlobbing pieces. Just stuff that gives some insight and info on the program. But today is a prime example of how this State's media already takes every opportunity to bash all things Auburn if they get the chance.
Saw a mundane...meh...article on D. Craig. The rest were on several former players that got cut and one specifically on King Dunlap getting traded from the Eagles to the Chargers. No biggee, right? Except the piece was written for the sole purpose of posting 8-10 twats they picked out from Eagles fans saying good riddance to Dunlap. Really? First off, it's Eagles fans. Second, I imagine you could find disgruntled fans on any team about any player on their team. You felt the need to post their comments because....?
Point being, it doesn't matter what Auburn does good or bad. There's a huge faction of our media that will always look for the negative.

I find this to be supporting evidence to my argument.
I agree they already do it. Which is why it is clear that it will be merciless should we ever lose to Troy. Currently, there is much media campaign to belittle us in every way, but if they had another in-state school that they could hoist in the process? A less threatening long-term rival to deem "#2" in the state to try to further push us into irrelevance? Of course they'll jump at the opportunity. Why give it to them?
-
I don't give a crap what any one writes or what people would say if we were to lose. I just don't want to give Troy any relevance or satisfaction of playing Auburn.

Unless we are undefeated and it's a big SEC game, JHS is rarely packed, my friend. But I'm told that'll all change once Jay Jacobs and Tim "The GM" get their new luxury box proposal and stadium seat addition passed. :taunt:
