For the first time in the 78 years of the Heisman Trophy, the voters have considered the candidates and honored a freshman football player. Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M, who has proven one of the most adventurous and effective forces in college football, racked up an astounding 43 total touchdowns and 4,600 total yards.
"This is a moment that I've dreamed about since I've been a kid running around the backyard pretending I was Doug Flutie throwing Hail Marys to my dad," Manziel said after being named the winner.
As dangerous with his arm as he was with his legs, the 20-year-old redshirt freshman out of Tivy High School in Texas, authored one of the most memorable moments of the campaign, leading the Aggies to an upset triumph over Alabama. Manziel emerged from Tuscaloosa as legitimate contender for the Heisman and with the Ballad of Johnny Football on the lips of college football fans across the nation.

Was halfway hoping Te'o would win it just to see what Johnny Football would do if denied the honor initially, essentilly raising his game if that's possible.

Some Notre Dame fans are dumbfounded at how Manziel could have won over Te'o. It makes no sense, and the whole thing is a sham because the award never recognizes defensive players. It's a QB/RB/WR award. But then again, according to those same people, Stanford has a better defense than anybody in the SEC and could also beat any team in the SEC.
Manziel was like a smaller, white Cam this season. He was probably the most clear-cut, obvious choice in years.

Manziel summons the backyard exploits in everyone. He's a faster Doug Flutie three decades later. A QB touches the ball every play and unless it's a superior RB it's no contest. A WR depends on the QB so how could a defender be legitimately considered when the opposing team can run away from him? A DB that can play both ways or doubles as a returner/ part time receiver has a chance. Otherwise. one has to be truly phenomenal, and Te'o ain't Cornelius Bennett or Derrick Thomas even, any more than he is the guy in my avatar.

Voters got it right. The 8 percent that didn't even have him on their ballot should have their vote revoked. Morons.
