Don't really understand this.
Tommy Tuberville is the new head coach at Cincinnati, a Texas Tech.
He will replace Butch Jones, who accepted the head coaching job at Tennessee on Friday. Cincinnati called a 6:30 p.m. ET news conference to introduce Tuberville.
A Texas Tech official said the school was "completely blindsided" by the decision.
Tuberville was 20-17 in three seasons at Texas Tech, going 7-5 this season to reach the Meineke Car Care Bowl vs. Minnesota. The Red Raiders started the season 6-1 but lost four of their final five games.

I didn't think it was a big secret that Tuberville hates Lubbock.

Any move that involves Lubbock shrinking in the rear view mirror is a good move.

Tubs might need some help compliments of AU. If he snags Troop and/or Luper-then it's back in the saddle.

Lubbock has a history of hiring a naughty Bobby as a coach, albeit in a different sport

Yeah and they also had a cruel /quirky pirate and an unassuming AD that couldn't keep a headset on.

Of the people I know in my area that are TT Alum-For whatever reason they didn't like him either.

Lubbock is sorta outbackish, and constanly windy, the kind of place (out of place) that gives one comfort when indoors. I can't blame Tubs for getting out. I'm sure there is an Arky or Texas native that will give the Red Raider faithful comfort. But in the grand scheme of things it is but a middle of the road destination... top 40-50 at best.

They aren't used to having a somewhat normal coach. Lubbock is also an armpit.

Tub's is a top 20 coach and nowhere, Texas is beneath him.

After having Leach for all those years, they need another eccentric type. Tubs was too normal.

Wow. Not surprising, but not good for aTm.

Wow talk about a lack of experience.

Not only did Coach Tubs leaving kinda catch the Texas Tech Administration off guard, but he accepted the deal while he was at a dinner with some of the other TTech coaches and a handful of recruits that were on their official visit (they said that he took a call, walked out of the room and never came back before they left). I liked CTT, but doing something like that just isn't decent at all...that's fucking shitty.

How do you like that?
Sticks 'em with the check using the ol' I gotta take this call outside routine. Could have at least scribbled a note for the hostess to give 'em...
Abandon ship!
Women, children and Head Coaches first!!

JUCO prospect: Tuberville ditched Texas Tech recruits during dinner
Posted by John Taylor on December 12, 2012, 11:19 AM EST
Tommy Tuberville AP
There have been many odd stories surrounding the departures of head coaches from one school to another over the years. This one may go down as the most bizarre. And classless.
News of Tommy Tuberville agreeing to become the new head coach at Cincinnati first surfaced Dec. 8, with an introductory press conference later in the day offering official confirmation that he was leaving Texas Tech after three years. The night before news first surfaced that he was leaving the Red Raiders, though, it was business as usual for Tuberville.
Tuberville and members of his Tech coaching staff hosted recruits, including JUCO prospect Devonte Danzey, on a visit that included dinner at a local restaurant. During the dinner, and as he had with coaches such as Kansas’ Charlie Weis and West Virginia’s Dana Holgorsen, Danzey asked Tuberville how long he expected to be the coach of the Red Raiders.
Tuberville, according to Danzey, talked around the question without ever answering directly, even throwing in an out-of-nowhere reference to recruiting Ray Lewis. A short time later, Tuberville performed the coaching version of the dine-and-dash.
“The waitress brought our food out, and we thought (Tuberville) went to the bathroom, but he never came back to dinner,†Danzey told 247Sports.com. “Then next thing I know, the next day, he made an announcement that he’s going to Cincinnati.â€
That’s right. Tuberville, again according to Danzey, ditched players he was recruiting in the middle of dinner, presumably to put the finishing touches on his departure from Lubbock to Cincinnati. To add insult to that insult, Tuberville bailed on a planned tour of campus the next morning, with the recruits only learning of Tuberville’s move to the Bearcats from a Tech assistant shortly after the tour had ended.
“Everybody was going crazy,†the offensive lineman told the website. “The players were shocked, too. We still had a good time at night, but it was crazy how he just got up and left out of nowhere and left people in the dark and in the shadow.â€
It should be noted that this is merely one individual’s version of how events unfolded this past weekend. If true? Very classy move, Tubs, in a gutless kind of way.
Karma, though, can be a vindictive mistress, especially when it comes to the recruiting trail, where coaches who will recruit head-to-head with Tuberville and his new Bearcats staff are no doubt already licking their chops — regardless of if Danzey’s account is accurate or not.

I heard that once he accepted the position with Cincy that he could no longer talk to the cruits as a rep of TT. So it may have been a legal thing.

Bullshit.
It is a shitty thing to do...
-
Tubby has done a couple of interviews and says this all came about Saturday. That the Cincy AD called him and started talking about different coaching possibilities. Then the AD raised the question of what about Tubs. One thing led to another and next thing you know, boom, Tubs is headed north.
What the fuck ever, Tommy.

Yes, it was(It was very shitty), but what did you want him to do? He had accepted the HC at another school. Could he have done the exit more gracefully, Yes.

Not officially accepted until after dinner.
Easy.
It was bullshit. can't think of anything more shitty than walking out on the middle of dinner.

I have in-laws coming in from South America for the holidays. Come have dinner with us and see if you feel the same about walking out. Not enough beer in the world to keep me at the table. :poke:

I just realized, JUCO OL Devonte Danzey, same one in the article, will be visiting Auburn this weekend.
