Assuming you don't owe the man your job because you are sleeping with him...
I am hearing two very contradictory statements with regards to BMFP - and I cannot get them to align in my mind.
On the one side are those of you who are all "CBMFP is a kick ass guy, will demand total control, won't be meddled with by the PTB, will kick ass and take names...".
On the other hand, you have statements like this: "He just needs someone to give him a chance, some way to redeem himself... He'll be hungry for it..."
No way does the AUPTB give him a chance without a very short leash, which is exactly what started all the Tubby shit back in the day. No way will the PTB give CBMFP total control. And no way can he be a success without it. If he feels like they are looking over his shoulder, waiting for him to fuck a cheerleader or something, then this is a trainwreck in the making.
Only a guy with a clean past can come in and demand top dollar and total control... AND GET IT.
Gary. Patterson.

It's like I think it and then you do your job and type it out for me.
Now make with the head.

So you are saying that Houston Nutt is available?

I think he has withdrawn his name from consideration.

I dig Patterson and would support his hire...but...HALF of his team was dealing drugs.

Maybe we can score some?

Um... NO. 18 students were dealing - 4 of whom were football players. They were immediately expelled. FIve players failed the test - 11 others had trace amounts. 85 others were clean. The ones that failed a drug test got internal punishments, until Pachall fucked up again, then he was gone.
I am seeing a lot of discipline here. No, it ain't perfect, but it is better than what we have had.
A drug bust on and around Texas Christian University's campus in Fort Worth early Wednesday morning led to the arrest of 18 people, including four football players, school officials say.
According to the warrants, the following student-athletes were arrested on suspicion of selling marijuana: David (D.J.) W. Yendrey, a junior defensive tackle from Edna; Devin Johnson, a junior defensive back from Oklahoma City; Tanner Wilson Brock Jr., a junior linebacker from Copperas Cove; Tyler (Ty) Horn, a sophomore offensive tackle from McGregor.
"There are days people want to be a head football coach, but today is not one of those days," head football coach Gary Patterson said. "As I heard the news this morning, I was first shocked, then hurt, and now I'm mad. Under my watch, drugs and drug use by TCU's student-athletes will not be tolerated by me or any member of my coaching staff, period. Our program is respected nationally for its strong ethics and, for that reason, the players arrested today were separated from TCU by the university."
TCU Chancellor Victor J. Boschini Jr. said the busts are not football problem, but a student problem. He said it was shocking and disappointing to learn of the investigation and arrests.
Five TCU football players failed a drug test that was given to the team on Feb. 1.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported the positives were for marijuana and also said 11 other players had trace amounts of the drug in their sample that was within the margin of error and 86 players tested clean.
The tests were order by Horned Frogs coach Gary Patterson after hearing reports of drug use among the team.
TCU starting quarterback Casey Pachall has been suspended indefinitely after he was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated early Thursday morning.
Coach Gary Patterson announced the suspension hours after police say Pachall was pulled over for running a stop sign near TCU's Fort Worth campus.
"My job as a head coach is to win games, educate our kids and help them with their lives," Patterson said in a statement. Pachall's "breath specimen" was over the legal limit (0.08), said Pedro Criado, Fort Worth police spokesman. Pachall was transferred to the Mansfield (Texas) jail, where he was later released on $1,000 bond.
Pachall, 21, lived in the same house as former TCU linebacker Tanner Brock, who was among four Horned Frogs football players arrested in February during a campus-wide drug bust. Pachall admitted to drug use in police interviews, but was not arrested.
TCU confirmed that Pachall had failed a Feb. 1 drug test, just two weeks before the arrests. Pachall attended a university drug and alcohol awareness program and was not suspended for any game time by Patterson.

You see that as a problem, I see that as a go-getter attitude! Besides whores ain't cheap.

I can't believe his name isn't getting pushed more in the press.

I still just don't get the perceived downside of Petrino in regards to the scandal. He was unfaithful to his wife, was going to get caught and paniced. Yeah, it was bad PR and negative attention to Arky, but in the grand scheme of things, who really gives a shit about it? After the first few games of the season, nobody would have been talking about it. People make mistakes, and they learn from them. He wasn't fucking little kids in the locker room. He wasn't paying players. Maybe it's me, but I just didn't see it as THAT big of a deal.

I agree. That in and of itself is not that big of a deal.
Couple it with jetgate and we need to stay the fuck away from it.

Did I hear correctly that James Franklin told e'rrbody to leave him be 'cause he's not leaving Anchor Down?
SportsRadio740 mentioned that in passing this morning.
Skreets anybody?

Can I ask why we blame BMFP for jetgate? I don't blame him for wanting the job. It's hard for me to get pissed at him b/c Housel, Walker, Lowder and yellowfellow came a calling and offered him one of the premier jobs in CFB.
-

Jetgate wasn't Petrino's fault. He was simply interviewing for a job.

He broke every employment law in Arkansas and therefore made the University of Arkansas liable...

You can't have jetgate without him.
Interviewing for a position that is not open by your previous employer when you already have a job?
You gotta treat the shit like a relationship. If they will do it for you then they will do it to you.
Bad form any way you cut it.

He is ABSOLUTELY at fault for jetgate. It's not like Housel, et. al. just popped in all "Surprise!!". He knew they were coming, and did not tell them to stay the hell away unless they went through proper channels. He fucked his old boss Tubby, and his current boss Louisville, without so much as a concern for anything other than himself. He is a narcissistic self-centered (is that redundant? Whatever, still true)asshole.
PLUS the way he actually left Louisville for the Falcons - signed a contract extension with LVL and then less than a month later took the ATL job. Then left the Falcons before the end of the season (!!) to take the Arky job. He did not get the name Suitcase for nothing, folks.
Who's to say he won't hang out at AU long enough to redeem himself and then bolt for the Turds when Saban finally strokes out on the sideline? If it seems like it's in BMFP's best interests, then that's what he does. He looks out for himself.
ESPECIALLY if the AUPTB try and use the whole "You owe us for giving you a second chance" thing and beat him to death with it. It's not like our PTB are real good at staying the fuck out of the AD and the football program.
Fucking the help is a bad thing - but like the Lawyer that cares about your Taxes said - he broke numerous state laws in hiring an unqualified candidate for improper reasons and having an improper relationship with another state employee as well... It was not just a personal matter between him and the Missus - that shit happens. What he did is egregious.
-

Having and affair with a young hottie is not that big of a deal. Putting the hottie on the payroll in a job that had 150 or so other applicants, many of which are much more qualified, is what makes it a big deal. I still think he is a hell of a coach, also think he is a hell of an asshole. Maybe even as big of one as Saban.
He will land somewhere, and wherever he lands will get better quickly. It will be interesting to see if getting fired at Arkansas taught him any humility.

You forget the covering up part which also included a po-po lying.
Seriously though how do you tell kids not to do this or that, when you have no morals yourself?

Stupid, cause everyone knows Saban didn't want Chizik fired. Hell he was his number one fan.

If only you fuckers loved Auburn as much as Bobby P.
Willing to stab his old buddy in the back for a chance to coach there....
-

That's one of my biggest concerns with BMFP. We now know that discipline was the biggest issue. Even the cleanest guy is going to have trouble unfucking the culture that's been developing for 4 years.

Well we did have a coach with morals and he was a good man, but he wasn't able to instill discipline.
I'd take BP today, no I don't agree with the things he has done but I also don't hold it against him. Everyone makes mistakes. To blame him for Jetgate is just stupid. It actually tells me that he gives a shit and is a competitor. I don't fault a guy that wants to better his career and move onto a better job. If the PTB at a school are looking for a new coach why not talk to them. Not taking the job because you use to work for the guy is just dumb.
Everyone wants to relate college football to their own job or life but it's not. It is a dog eat dog world I want the hungriest dog to lead my team. This is not a job for the weak of the fat and happy. Petrino is the best choice for the situation we are in. He may not be the best for 6,7 or 8 years from now but at the present he is.

Really? According to rumors the NCAA is still sniffing around. At the first hint that something is going down he would jump ship as fast as, oh I don't know, an NFL coach who's QB just got arrested for torturing small animals. Just as an off the wall example.

Where is he going to go, remember he has baggage. Even if we only have him for 2 years, our program will be better off.
-

If he caused it, he was allowed to by Chiz. People read a lot in to him backwards hat and towel waiving, but now he's been fired, and still showing up for work. Things that make you go hmmm?

That's why you put those things in a contract goober. Atlanta was stupid for not protecting itself better. But then again it IS the Falcons so..... Arky did it masterfully.
People were also saying these same type hypotheticals about Saban as well. All of you anti BP fans sure are coming up with a ton of non existing hypotheticals as reasons not to hire him. None of the hypotheticals shouted from the rooftops about saban have happened.
-

HA! Pate says he'd keep him around bc he unnerves the rest of the SEC.
Reports have Luper and Trooper still on the job.
Makes you wonder about the timing of the investigation reports and length of the supposed search.

It's from the same person that first reported that Coach Troop was at the Athletic Complex (Jay Tate), also Scott Fountain is working as well, he holds some sort of position in the Ath Dept (came over with CGC from Iowa State).

This.
Trooper's a solid dude. About as nice a guy as they come. That's why he's an amazing recruiter. If I were the new guy, I'd retain him. Troop-A-Loup is maybe the only part of this staff I'd keep. Unless I had good reason to believe BVG could be 2000% better without Chizik's meddling.
Trooper has been a lightening rod for rumors as ridiculous and far ranging from him impregnating a Tiger Paw to running a brothel for recruits. I mean, he WEARS HIS HAT BACKWARDS! He is OBVIOUSLY a pimp!
I don't throw this card out often, but in this case you've got to call a spade a spade (no pun intended). 99.9% of the criticism of Trooper is thinly veiled racism, plain and simple. That Cochran bafoon on Bama's sideline is just a character with all the charm of the Tasmanian Devil, and literally cannot say a word without screaming it like Stone Cold Steve Austin. Mere lovable quirks. BUT TROOPER WAVES A TOWEL AND WEARS HIS HAT BACKWARDS, Y'ALL! HIDE YOUR WHITE WOMEN CAUSE HE'S HO'IN 'EM OUT TO RECRUITS!!!

We just had, in my mind at least, one of the most class acts and a man with great character as our head coach and it didn't work out so hot.
BMFP isn't my first choice of all the coaches out there, but I would take him before I would Gus or Smart. Right now his options are limited, he comes with baggage and I believe he knows this is his last shot. If you are worried about him leaving write up a stupid contract like Arky did. What was it $15 mil buyout to go to another SEC school or something crazy?
-

Agree with that, but we've had coaches that are class acts and great character that were good coaches before. I don't understand why the thinking is that you can't have both. Plus if the stories are true that are coming out about Chiz and being so lax on discipline he may not have been the high character guy we thought he was.
I would consider Tubs a high class/character guy that was a great coach. Same for Shug. There are probably lots of other examples out there. High class, high character, disciplinarian, and good X's and O's and management skills don't have to be exclusive of each other.

Just a rehash put out during Iron Bowl week and just before the impending coaching search.

Right. I dismissed it as the annual smear campaign with a new twist: scare off potential coaching candidates.

Funny hearing you call someone a cocksucker and lecture about morals all in one sentence. Bravo.
Would love to hear your input on a better available coach that would feasibly come to auburn. That person more than likely doesn't exist. Most good coaches have character issues now. There are exceptions like Peterson and Harbaugh but most are douches. It is what it is.
The ponzi scheme stuff and how tubs drug us along for more money everytime arky, aggie or Miami came open. Yea that reeks of choir boy behavior. They all have chinks in the armor somewhere.
