Atleast thats what Will Collier is saying on twitter....
Will Collier†@willcollier
Hearing reports of media trucks swarming around AU athletic complex. Again, no official (or credible unofficial) word.
Will Collier†@willcollier
No official word yet, but lots of rumbling out of Auburn that Gene Chizik has just been fired, press conference coming later today.
TIFWIW.

I doubt Chizik will end up as anything more than a coordinator for the forseeable future, so AU will probably pay a good bit of that buyout.
Ten. Million. Dollars. Jesus.....
AU has also fired all assistant coaches as well and has told them they may apply with whoever the new head coach will be. Do the assistants also have buyouts?

Not to nit pick but where did you read the $10 million bit? I thought it went down monthly?

A Word From Jay Jacobs:

Nov. 25, 2012
Dear Auburn Family,
First and foremost, I want to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have reached out to me in recent days and weeks to express your concerns about our football program. You are the best fans in the country, and I appreciate your passion and love for Auburn University.
We have talked a lot in recent years about building the foundation it takes to consistently compete at a high level in the nation's toughest conference. Despite substantial investment in personnel and facilities made possible by your support, the football program did not live up to our expectations. The results of the 2012 football season are simply unacceptable at Auburn.
After suffering some tough losses in a transition year in 2011, we had hoped our team would show improvement this season. Unfortunately, it has not. The competition in our league is fierce and is currently at an all-time high, and we cannot risk falling further behind by waiting another year and hoping for improvement.
That is why after careful consideration and a thorough evaluation of our football program, I have recommended that Coach Gene Chizik not be retained. President Gogue has accepted my recommendation. Earlier this morning, I informed Coach Chizik that he will not return as head coach.
My primary consideration in making this recommendation was doing what is in the best interests of our current student-athletes and the future of our football program. That has always been my top priority, and it always will be.
While I am disappointed that Coach Chizik's career here has come to an end we will long cherish the memories of our first National Championship in 53 years. Gene and his staff will always be a part of the Auburn Family, and we wish them and their families the best.
This season demonstrated that we need a different direction to get where we want to go. We will move as quickly as possible in our search for a new Head Coach, guided by the benchmarks President Gogue and I expect. Those benchmarks are a track record as a proven winner, a commitment to playing within the rules and student-athlete academic success.
am pleased to announce that we have put together an outstanding search committee to find our next head coach. The committee consists of several great Auburn leaders who share our commitment to competing at the highest level and who understand what it takes to succeed at Auburn. I am honored that Mac Crawford, Bo Jackson and Pat Sullivan have agreed to join our efforts to find the best coach possible for our student-athletes, the students of Auburn University and the Auburn Family. I'm proud to be part of this distinguished group.
A press conference will be held later today to formally announce this change. In the days ahead, you can expect rumors to swirl and inaccurate reports to surface about who is under consideration to be our next Head Coach. That is the nature of coaching searches at this level. I will not respond to rumors or speculative reports during the search process, but I do look forward to announcing our new Head Coach once the search is complete.
I regret that the Auburn Family, and especially our season ticket holders and Tigers Unlimited donors, have had to endure a frustrating and difficult season. You expect and deserve better.
It is time to heal and turn the page to the next chapter of Auburn football. It is time to pull together and forge ahead to the brighter future that awaits us.
We have endured tough times before, and we have always emerged stronger. I have no doubt that will be our course once again.
God Bless and War Eagle!
Jay

http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2012/10/gene_chiziks_auburn_buyout_not.html
The buyout started at a whopping $10 million, but only if Auburn would fire Chizik "without cause." In the bizarro world of coaching contracts, without cause means for losing games, which Auburn has done nine times in 18 starts since winning the national title. "For cause" would mean for something like breaking NCAA rules.
As is standard, Chizik’s buyout decreases over time, but it decreases monthly. Here are the annual round figures for the buyout:
Dec. 1, 2011: $10 million.
Dec. 1, 2012: $7.5 million.
Dec. 1, 2013: $5 million.
Dec. 1, 2014: $3.5 million.
Those are just snapshots because the buyout decreases monthly on a prorated basis. According to the contract, this year and next year it drops by $208,334 a month.
He was fired Saturday night after the bloodletting.

AUBURN, Alabama -- It's going to cost Auburn $11.09 million to get rid of football coach Gene Chizik and his nine assistant coaches, though that figure will drop when they get other jobs.
Chizik is set to get a $7.5 million buyout on Dec. 1. He and his assistant coaches were fired Sunday.
Chizik’s buyout will be paid in monthly installments through four fiscal years concluding in 2015-16.
All buyout figures could decrease if coaches get other jobs in or out of coaching.
Auburn said six assistant coaches will be paid the remainder of their 2012-13 contracts in equal monthly installments until its conclusion on June 30, 2013.
Three coaches – Brian VanGorder, Scot Loeffler and Trooper Taylor – have contracts that expire on June 30, 2014. They will be paid in equal installments over the next 18 months.

Gene better save up his big ass payout. Can't see him getting another job.

He'll work again, just probably not as a HC at the D1 level.

Who would want a team (defense) to get progressively worst year end and year out? I don't think even Div III would take that???????

He's always had a good reputation as a DC until he became a HC. And you know how football is. Friends hire friends, and coaches get recycled all the time. Hell, Roof got 2 d1 jobs after leaving Auburn.

See your point, but folks don't like have many friends when it comes to someone fucking there shit up and taking money away from them. He may get another job (I don't think even D1) but it won't be until 2014 season. They guy has proven (This year) that he is not a winner. And without a kick-ass staff he is at best a low level coach. He is more the 5-19 coach than the 14-0.
-
Hell, he doesn't have to work another day in his life. Maybe he'll write another book or something. Who knows? I just know he isn't hurting for money and hasn't banged a coed.

HC and DC two different jobs. I don't think he'll ever be a D1 HC again. Agree, he'll probably lay out a year, and nobody will even have him as an analyst. Then he'll get a DC job somewhere in the Big whatever, or Pac something or nother, or maybe at a directional or WAC or Mtn West School. Or maybe goes the Mike Dubose route and goes to a lower level D2 or D3 school. I can't hate the man personally. I fucking despise what he's done as a coach this year, but he's by all accounts a class guy. I just got an email from Auburn Athletics that is Gene's farewell letter, and it's nothing but class. He walks in to some D2 AD's office that needs a HC, he flashes two NC rings from the BCS that will get their attention, along with his character. They'll ask him what happened in 2012, and he'll tell them how meddlesome PTB forced him to change schemes to match up with bammer, when he didn't have the kids to do it, and he had to hire some no name OC, and somebody will buy that shit, and hire him. Mike Dubose got a DIII HC job, and is now back coaching DL at Memphis. Larry Coker is a HC in the WAC.
Chiz is gone. Time to move on and look to the future. I wish him no ill will. Couple of things that I can find good in this. Obviously, a BCS NC, no matter who is responsible for it, we got it, and the cupboard is NOT bare...the right coach can come in and and turn it around quickly.

I would agree with this if he would come out and say why we are 3-9 instead of coach speak. I would give him more credit if he would also say I did not earn my pay this year and will forfit it.
Neither will happen I know this.
The right coach can come in and turn this around quick. The talent is there.

I would think that all coaches situation are fluid. A more lower level guy is going to keep more high profile coaches who can help him transition. I wonder if BVG will even interview for the job?????????? Was it his defense that was so fuck up or GC defense that he made BVG run and forced him to start that weak ass shit Jake???? I'd like to think not.

If he knew why we were 3-9, we probably wouldn't be 3-9. I'm not going to blame a guy in this business for taking his contract money either.
I'm praying they get the hire right.

This season was not a product of Xs and Os. It's a product of the soft, undisciplined culture created in the off season, and on the practice field the last 4 years as Tubs players transitioned out, and Chiz's in.
I'd be ok with BVG staying on, he's probably not been corrupted, and it seemed he recognized the problems. The rest? No fucking way, all need to get the fuck out.

They wouldn't hire him as analyst because he would withhold his commentary until after he had a chance to see the replay
Seriously, he's a good guy that just promoted up to his level of incompetence. Happens all the time. I could see him being a lifer at DC.

I wouldn't mine seeing Boulware stay myself. Clark struggled this year but our kickers have been money since he was hired.

Dont know for sure but I read JJ gave all the coaches the opportunity to hang around and apply with the new guy since they were already on the payroll. Seems like I read that Trooper is the only one that didn't clear out. Only RUMOR I've seen so far about coaches staying so TIFWIW.

As long as he's either not the guy in charge of discipline, and just does Xs and Os, or he's a HC at a program where the kids are the academic types that won't run wild, he'd be ok.

That settles it. New Rumor. Chiz goes to Wake Forest as DC and Asst. Head Coach.

He's a coach but not on the "fb coaching staff". I know, semantics. I hate to see Yox leave.
Btw, I think gogue and the ptb pretty much told JJ to clean house to keep his job for time being. I also think he's simply a figure head at this point. Wouldn't be shocked to see him go too eventually.

Moreover, I think Gouge hoped JJ would stand up to him so he could fire him too, but he scurried off to fire everyone to save his own ass. Which makes Gouge a shitty boss and JJ a pussy.

I have a lot of respect for Trooper staying and continuing to recruit. That could save our recruiting class.
