Mine is the 1978 classic, John Carpenter's Halloween.

Halloween for scary. What was great about it was that there was very little gore. The music leading up to a killing had you on edge.
Plus you got to see P.J. Soles' tits.
Now my overall favorite movie to watch this time of year is "Shaun of the Dead"

Both excellent picks.
The Shining is my horror fave.

You are a weird motherfucker.
And you picked a bad comedy for your favorite horror film.
Weird.

Not really into horror films, but "The Exorcist" freaked me right the hell out. "The Shining" was great, and it would have been better if Kubrick could have gotten the effects worked out where the topiary lion came to life and chased the kid while the hotel exploded because of a faulty valve in the boiler (book) rather than the lame hedge maze.

A 3rd for the original Halloween. As Sani mentioned, very little gore. Real suspense and "Oh shit" moments. It really was after this movie that I stopped watching many horror flicks since the suspense started leaving and the gore started increasing.
-
Count me in on The Shining too for the very same reasons there, Scatman Crothers.

Wow...blatant oversight on my part. That one still holds up today. When Reagan starts jamming the cross into her puss...yeeeesh.

Thirded on Halloween, best horror movie ever.

Nothing But Trouble is a 1991 American horror comedy.

Actually it hasn't been released yet. It's due to come out on November 24, 2012 in Tuscaloosa. The upset of the century as AU beats the bammers 29-27.

Double stamp it, no backsies.

Nightmare on Elm Street. The original, first one. before all of the 200 remakes.
Now it seems not do scary. But if you were at the theater for the original....
Second favorite, Fright Night. Original.

Sex and the City 3.
Yes, I know it doesn't exist, but the possibility of it frightens me.

Lots of great ones but got to go with Halloween. It's one of those you think about that could really happen. Now A Clockwork Orange really freaked me out. I know not really a scarey movie but as a 15 year old it just messed with my head.
