Sad news.
RT @JFowlerCBS: RT @jzenor: Auburn confirms that Gene Chizik's mother passed away early this morning.
-
Shit. I hate that for him and his family.
I do NOT, however, want to see a mercy-move in letting him stay another year.

Sad but true.

Sad but true.
I'm down with this, metallica breath.
Yep, definitely hate it for him on top of everything else.
-
Sad when we all lose a loved one. My heart goes out to the Chizik family.
The Chiziks will always be a part of the Auburn family.

Totally agree.

Peace to Gene and his family over this loss. Be well.

What's kind of unique about this situation is that while everyone is pissed about the way the program has slid into the crapper, I think everyone is keeping the criticism directed where it should be. I've openly said I don't think Chizik's methods work....from the way he practices to the handling of discipline...or rather, keeping his players in line. But, I see very little attacking of the man himself, as is too often the case when fans get frustrated over their team's performance. Talk shows always preface any criticism of him with the obligatory comment on what a classy guy he has always been.
I'm glad that's been the case because I'd hate to have trashed someone personally and then when something tragic happens, go into hypocrit mode.

Agree 100%
I think he is a great man, from all of the accounts I have heard he also seems to be genuinely religious. No one wishes he had worked out more than all of us do. (except greasyfuckstick)
I just think he is in over his head.

I guess she couldn't bear to watch the on-field clusterfuck anymore.
Godfather made me do it.

If this is true then the fact that Auburn didn't get the hammer in 2010 is even more amazing. I mean, if CGC is so bad at handling things, how in the world did he handle the tsunami of hate and manure coming in the wake of Cam?
It doesn't make sense.

I think we tend to overstate his handling of that whole situation. Not saying he didn't do a good job with it but, what did he really do? He stayed calm. He spoke very little about it other than to say he sleeps well at night. He didn't allow Cam to do interviews or let any other players comment on it.
Oh, and he hid the bag where no one could find it.
I'm not taking anything away from the man and how he and AU weathered that storm. It's just that most anyone can look at the situation and go, "The media and message boards are blowing up. How to handle it? Focus on football. Don't talk about it and keep Cam away from the cameras and microphones."

Chiz is a steady as you go type personality. Doesn't get too high or low. The personality trait that served him well in 2010, is the very same trait that's got us looking like warmed over donkey shit, and like we don't give a shit if we win or lose.

Well, he was sincere sounding in his apology after the Arkansas game

He knew Auburn didn't do anything wrong. There wasn't really anything to do except, as you said, don't let Cam speak and become a lightning rod, and don't beat the shit out of some reporter.
