Tuberville was 8-5 in his fourth year and would have gotten fired if Finebaum had stayed out of it. Went 13-0 in his fifth and should have won the NC. (61%)
Bowden was 8-4 in his fourth year and his seat was warm. Cooled it by going 10-3 and winning the West in his fifth season. (66%)
Dye went 9-4 in his fourth season. (69%)
Barfield went 8-3 in his fourth season. DOUG FUCKING BARFIELD. Was competitive in every loss (except a 35-17 loss to Tennessee). Lost 25-18 to a 1979 Bama team that was dominant like the ones the past few years. I think that's also the game where a receiver on a long TD was called out of bounds and if replay existed that game would have ended in a tie. (73%)
Jordan went 8-3 in his fourth year. (73%)
Earl Brown didn't make it four. Fired his ass.
Carl Voyles went 2-7 in his fourth year. Fired that ass. (And we're back to 1947 now). (22%)
Jack Meagher went 6-2-3 in his fourth year (1937) (54%)
Chet Wynne was 5-5 in his fourth year. Had gone 9-0-1 in his third. He didn't make a fifth year. (50%)
Mike Donahue was 6-1 in his fourth year. (85%)
John Heisman was 2-1 in his fourth year. (66%)
61.9% average winning percentage in fourth years in all of Auburn history. Take away the fired 22% fucker? 66% average winning percentage.
Auburn plays 12 games in the regular season. Should win 8 games. Anybody believe that? Anybody?
Don't try to tell me that a coach in Year Four should suck total ass for any reasons. He's got his own kids, he's had time to overcome whatever problems there were.
My god, we ridiculed Lane Kiffin to death. What's USC up to?

USC up to?
Losing to the Farm.

Losing to the Farm.
Well that was clearly ill-timed.

Back to Tuberville for a second. You know, the guy who I thought did everything pretty much right until the end. Now what caused the end is a matter of debate. Did he just not give a fuck and quit? Or did the administration make it clear that he didn't have support and they were just going to wait until there wouldn't be a fan uprising if they cut the strings? Don't know.
All I know is that Tuberville was there for 10 years. Won the SEC West three times, won the SEC once, went undefeated once, won 11 games once, won at least nine games in SIX of his fucking ten seasons. Think on that. NINE games in at least six seasons, 11 games once and 13 once. Had one losing season to open after a debacle (and should have beaten State that year).
He did all of that and never had players quit or transfer. Never had robberies. Never had players doing spice (that we know of). He wasn't suspending players week after week, season after season. The NCAA didn't so much as sniff Auburn the whole time he was there.
Yeah there was the damn Sexton drama. That sucked and he should have cut that off at the knees, but in a way I don't blame him. They were going to cut his dick off for the humiliation of 2003.
Yeah. Humiliation. Lost to the eventual national champs to open the season in the Jim Fyffe curse game. Suffered a hangover loss to Georgia Tech. Lost 31-7 at Baton Rouge (after beating LSU 31-7 the year before). Lost to Georgia 26-7 and that was IT, dammit. Lost two straight to GEORGIA! No, motherfucker, you got to pack your shit and get out.
Hmm. We got ass raped 45-10 by LSU last year. Ass raped 45-7 by Georgia. Ass raped 42-14 by Alabama.
Somebody try to tell me that's going to get better?
I know Tuberville wasn't perfect, he had some kind of weird hangup with Arkansas and lost to those fucks when we should have beaten them, but in retrospect?
Chizik's getting way more latitude than he got.
-
*giggle giggle *
Just solidified Bama as the greatest college team to have ever existed in the history of time. Those motherfuckers could go back to gladiator times and kill Spartacus. They'd beat an army of transformers. They'd take Iron Man and shove him up Hulk's ass with Thor's hammer. They could have taken down Genghis Khan and Alexander the Great at the same time. You could put Herschel, Bo, Barry Sanders and Billy Sims in their prime on the same team and that Alabama defense would allow minus 85 rushing yards.
-
I didn't realize how good we had it with Tuberville. Everything you said is spot on.
Not to mention, his style of play would compete perfectly with Alabama and LSU right now. All they fucking do is run up the middle and then hit a play action pass. Tuberville's defenses were nasty. Run fit, get in the backfield and stuff the run. Gang tackle. Pressure the quarterback. Pass defense was a bit weak, but we could hit people in the mouth especially from 2004-2007.
It wouldn't be an easy win or anything, but I guarantee a Tuberville built team would get a 2:30 CBS spot with the entire country talking about the potential upset.
And I don't know how much leverage Chizik has. We don't really know what's in motion right now, but I still don't think he gets fired.
That BCS trophy. The Heisman trophy. The ability to get us through a scandal unscathed. The legend of Cam Newton.
Chizik's going to get another year even after LSU beats us 42-7. Even after we lose to Ole Miss/Vandy, Texas A&M, Georgia, and Alabama.

This is the bus I never got on and never will.

Don't know what you've got until it's GAAAAWWWWWWAWWN.
We don't win the NC in 2010 with Tuberville. Possibility that we're talking about LSU and Bama swapping titles year after year or maybe Oregon beats LSU?
Can't lament the past. What's done is done. Just saying for all the bullshit I hear about him, Tuberville did a damn good job over ten years and never got any support from Jacobs' sorry ass.
-
Tubbs was one of the best coaches we have ever had. I will always believe this and I also do not fault him for his last couple of years, who would continue to strive for the best at his job after the shit his superiors put him through?

Wars have been fought on this board for saying less than that. Tuberville was a duck hunting, BBQ eating shitbird. That's what most people seem to think.

Anybody that wouldn't take the run from 2000-2007 over and over again, less getting fucked out of a NC, is stupid. I'd a shitload rather believe our coach is winning 9 games with diamonds in the rough, than see us flopping around like Epileptic monkeys off their meds with a roster full of 4 and 5 stars.

I used to love watching LSU vs. AU every year when AU had Tuberville. You knew every year that there was about to be some good football that was about to be played, and it was going to be a great game.

That's also because you fuckers had Shula.

Honestly, I'm going with my skreets, and calling us not near as loaded as "the services" say. Another problem, our staff can't evaluate talent, let alone develop it.

Nobody ever did the research to see what was still around of those big numbers anyway.
-
That's also because you fuckers had Shula.
While Shula will make you envious of almost any coaching staff, there was just something about Tuberville. I dreaded every Iron Bowl. It was (usually) always a fairly close game that you thought maybe your team would win, but knew deep down inside just didn't have the balls to win. No matter how much you convinced yourself that your team would win. Same could be said for games against Arky in the Shula/Nutt years. Two years of dealing with Saban at LSU was fucking terrifying as well.
-

From what I get, it's not a matter of that, but that Auburn gets the benefit of the doubt from the services, and if we go for a kid, they give him a boost, and if Bammer does, they give him a bigger boost, but Bammer is actually much better at evaluation than we are. When bammer has a 5 star, they make him one, but when we have a 4 star we make him a 2 star.

I hope Saban has to be rushed to the hospital to have 30 gallons of jizz pumped out of his stomach.

I can't disagree with any of that. I'm just numb.

The problem with this theory is that Auburn's not the only school, including Alabama, that also offered recruits that end up signing with Auburn. Many are recruited by Bama first, then sign with Auburn.

Because, the mantra is true, bammer didn't REALLY want them. Keep on trying to find holes in the theories of why we suck on the field when, on paper, we shouldn't.

I can agree with most of what you have said but I don't really buy the "didn't really want them" point
of view. I for one actually think we do have sufficient talent to be competitive. I do also think that the
offensive philosophy change has some to do with the lack of production. However, there are some
issues that I just can't figure out. One of those that pisses me off the most is the fact we have young guys at the LB that ARE better than Holland and they are not playing. For fucks sake, a DE that sits on the 3rd string would be better than whats out there right now.

I'm going with what I'm being told, which matches up with what I'm seeing on the field. But, as I have also stated, even if the part about recruiting and talent level is wrong, it then falls back to coaching and developing players being the shortcoming. Neither bodes well.
-
Neither bodes well.
No, it doesn't. Like I stated in my other rant post, its like a kick in the nuts.....with no mercy.

Last time he called all he could say "Well, ______ some decisions were out of my hands.". And you know the question I asked him.
I'm glad to see that the Auburn Family is finally waking up to what we have going on down there.

If part 1 isn't directly related to part 2 of your quoted statement then it is wrong.

Even if we don't have quite the talent we think we do, we still shouldn't be worrying about get skullfucked by msu and needing luck and overtime to beat ulm.
