I
like liked the way our Defense is playing played the first few drives. They seem a little meaner and violent. Resfreshing.
-
Wipe the nut out of your eyes, it called dropped balls.

Yeah, sorry about that. thought for sure your mom was going to swallow like always. And yes I see the dropped balls and also they don't look as good now.
-
Haha funny fucker you must be thinking about your sister, are you really a BAM?
-
no, no sister... but i have been living in WV for a year
-
Oh makes sense now. I thought coach GM was gone, yet still throwing the screen to McOutOfBounds on 3rd and long

I cried when I saw that. 4th and 17... lets throw a screen

Clemson is not a good football team. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
Offense looked confused and tentative and repeatedly strayed from anything that worked.
Defense looked fair at times, but the fucking overpursuit from the fucking outside that left the fucking middle open for that fucking assbag to pick up yardage fucking pissed me off.
2800 yards for Ellington on 300 carries tonight? Jesus Christ.
Clemson is bad football team coached by a buffoon. And they have our fucking lunch money.

yup. Why did we stop running? I thought Mason was doing pretty damn good myself.

Agree we over pursued from the out side, Dabo is an ass clown, Emson is not shitty but we still are. Going to be a long season. Frazier is not a college QB.

We just got beat by a better team. We have improved from last year on both sides. KF still has a ways to go with his passing but I thought run blocking, rb's and of course Lutz looked good. JP is a force with the run game.
I hate to see our db's still trying to make epic hits and not wrap up. I guess I'm just old school.

Fuck you. This sucked. Stop the better team bullshit and go suck a dick.

She is right. We still can't cover, can't tackle, can't pursue, can't do shit on defense. Offense running game better coach L can't fucking call plays. Frazier sucks. Wish Malzhan was still around.
-
Clemson is and will be one of the best teams that Auburn faces this year...and no, not because they beat us. They wore the Defense down with their constant runs up the gut, then the QB keeper around the end. Auburn doesn't face another team with a QB like Tajh Boyd to go along with a RB like Andre Ellington (he'll be in the running for the Heisman).
uat, UGA, Clemson, LSU in that order.
-

If you're telling me that Clemson is a better team than LSU, you're full of shit.
Full. Of. Shit.

. Clemson has a very good offense, better with Watkins naturally. Morris knows how to wear down a decent front that has to stay on the field, but Clemson has no defense.
I think we will see if we have any run game against the likes of State in a couple of weeks. Not sure if we are that bad at pass protection or Frazier just moves from what should be a pocket into the outside pursuit. He rarely took a straight drop and set his feet after the first quarter.
I like Loeffler's strategy but what happened to play action? That might get some of our developing receivers some chances.
We won't face another coordinator with weapons like Morris. Our front started strong but wore down as you say. But I don't think their offensive line is any better than ours.
-
If you're telling me that Clemson is a better team than LSU, you're full of shit.
Full. Of. Shit.
LSU has a complete team. Clemson has offensive skill players. Both have goofy head coaches.
-
Clemson is a bad football team.
That was a 6-6 team.
And for the record I'd fuck just about every woman in the state of Oregon.

With Watkins that's a 10 win football team, we had our chances tonight we couldn't get the ball in the endzone. I think we've found our next great tailback in Mason he was a few shoestring tackles away from taking the ball to the house, over 100 yards in his second start.

Yeah. And they didn't have Watkins. The team AU played tonight is a 6-win level team.
And we didn't ride Mason. Instead we put the game in the hands of Teddy Fruxpin, the Cocoa Panda.
Not an SEC-caliber quarterback.
Got hosed on a couple of calls that helped put points on the board for them, but still.
That was not a good football team at all. Little discipline, a makeshift line that we should have manhandled. Should have scored 30 or 40 on that shitacular defense. We didn't.
Clemson plays in the ACC -- which is weak -- but they're still going to get their shit pushed in by some half-ass teams.
-
Just got back home. Several things I learned tonight:
1. Clemson fans have become just like their douchebag coach
2. The DL is not as good as I originally thought they'd be
3. Tre Mason will be a workhorse back.
4. Scot Loeffler needs to understand McProne can't run off tackle from the Ace Formation
5. The secondary still looks like swiss cheese
6. Kahlile Frasshier needs to set his feet better...all of his throws went high tonight
7. The orange sundress is still teh awesome
-

Clemson has two good offensive skill players. One of which didn't play tonight. They don't have shit on defense. Also horse shit on the Ellington for Heisman comment.
-
Like I said before, Clemson is and will be one of Auburn's hardest games and Clemson is better than LSU. Also, Andre Ellington will be in the running for the Heisman, regardless of what anyone here thinks. The team that Auburn faced is a 10 win team...add Watkins, then it's a 13-14 win team.

Clemson fans were douchebag's especially with the liquor and beer sales during the game.

This is eerily similar to last year's "Tongans are fucking strong" argument you had after Utah State pushed us to the last second.
-
This thread is meh, Frazier will get better this team will improve.
Y'all need some cheese with the fuckin whine?

If you're telling me that Clemson is a better team than LSU, you're full of shoot.
Full. Of. shoot.
They may or may not be better but Auburn plays LSU at home this year. And considering LSU has only 3 fucking wins at Jordan Hare in the last 40 fucking years I sure as hell ain't conceiding shit.

If they're a 6-6 team, we won't win 6.
Mason is not a back we can ride for 25 carries a game. Not big enough. Where were the rest of the backs?
Frazier was hot and cold last night, and at least shows some heart and smarts. Doesn't panic. Not great, but shows promise.
Disagree that wasn't a good team, but yeah, our DL should have manhandled their patchwork OL, and didn't.
Repeat, if they're a 6-6 ACC team, we are, as predicted by many, 10th in the SEC, and won't go bowling. I just don't see us being THAT bad. The defense has got to find a way to get off the field!
-
This is eerily similar to last year's "Tongans are fucking strong" argument you had after Utah State pushed us to the last second.
No no no. Samoans are strong. Tongans are mainly proud but some are plenty strong.
This was a tough opener. We won't have to defend against another kitchen sink offense like this. Malzahn's probably thinking the same about Oregon. Clemson is very similar to us. But they have an experinced QB in Boyd along with Ellington, WATKINS, Hopkins... and a lake. They have no defense and an offensive line comparable to ours. But unlike us, they really only have to get by Va Tech and FSU.
Auburn has an improved defensive line which is what we expected.
Our most glaring weakness is at LB, because we might even see some decent coverage (not so loose) from our secondary against more conventional offenses. But Morris eventually ran us down and we steadilly turned to shit.
Our offensive line will get better playing against SEC defenses if they don't get the boot or choose to give up football in order to concentrate on their studies.
The "singlemost" improvment is Prosch. Mason can hit a crease because of Prosch. OMac is a burner to the boundaries and there is no telling what he could be if we could get him the ball in the air on the run out of the slot.
Frazier has enough talent to be a winning QB but it will be a long season waiting for the offensive line to gel while trying to get the ball to Blake and Lutz in the real contests ahead. Again, I didn't see any play action to help him, only a floating pocket against a weak defense where he is prone to make off-balanced throws.
He's no Aaron Murray but he can be a good game manager if we can run the ball in the games ahead. And no, I'm not talking about the four or five we should win, I'm talking about State,Vandy and TAMU, not Arky or UGA and certainly not LSU or Alabama.
I like our longterm plan with Loeffler and Van Gorder. I'm admittedly "incoherent" in many of my past posts and I'm a longtime Auburn homer but I'm not delusional. We have to crawl before we walk. If we can fix some mistakes and find another receiver from the pool of potential (munchkins included) and get some games under our belt up front I think we can become better than respectable on offense.
Defensively I just don't have a read because we are so thin on talent at LB and the problem isn't so much our one on one individual coverage from our CBs per se as it is the acreage that opposing QBs and receivers are given. Mind boggling!

Welcome newbies!
Drink hearty and post often. It's gonna be a long one but you can only raise me up based on some of your recent intro posts. As Token warned, I suggest you stay far away from common social issues, movie reviews and anything that basically matters unless you are poised to argue the pulp from a sappling rather than the forest.

Don't really see it that way, year 4 of Chizik we should not lose to a team like Clemson. We have been through every excuse Tubb's recruiting, we're young, new coaches I don't care about that shit anymore. We have recruited well for the last 3 years we should not lose like we did last night.
Yes team will get better and yes our defense improved. We had chances to win the game last night we also had chances to get blown out as well. The stupid mistakes being made and the shitty play calling last night is what I personally am not willing to accept.
Frazier had plenty of chances to complete what should be routine passes and failed. Our running game looked good and when we got to mid field we decide to rely on passing which looked like shit. Yes it was game one but Loeffler should have known what Frazier could and could not do and been more creative in scoring position.

I feel your pain, but I feel like we are set up for a good two-three year run after this season.
We'll return 17 starters and hopefully plug in a lot of young guys into roles that are lacking right now.
Word is that Frost and Cassanova are both physically much better than Holland and Bates, but they're so green, they'd never be near the ball carrier. We have possibly the best defensive class in the history of recruiting coming in next year. Frazier will get better. We have a stable of young running backs plus possibly adding a 5 star stud in Derrick Green. The offensive line is very, very young, and we have more young talent to plug in once Sullen graduates.
We're only going to get better. Last year really wasn't a rebuilding year. That just sucked. I do think this is a rebuilding year. I just hope Chizik can keep morale up when we get beat a few more times.

All of your points are good and valid, but I can also see shit hitting the fan if we don't win ball games. Our schedule this year does not go well with how we played last night.
Also not convinced that Frazier will develop into a good QB, not even sure that he can be a game manager. Hope I'm wrong because if not we are 2-3 years from competing for anything.

If your last sentence is correct, it will be with a new head coach.

If your last sentence is correct, it will be with a new head coach.
Definitely will be. This weekend is a must win game.
Wife is a State fan so we are going to the game. Not excited about Starkvegas but am about seeing us play in person. Can read the play much better when you can see the whole field developing.

We lose to State I don't think we even make a bowl game.

We lose to State I don't think we even make a bowl game.
We don't make a bowl game, then Chiz really is the coach the bammers claim he is.
-
State does not have a QB or a RB even close to what we saw last night. If Kiehl can calm down for his first road game and get his throws down, this game won't even be close.
-
We don't make a bowl game, then Chiz really is the coach the bammers claim he is.
Yep.
But I think that's taking it too far.
I said before this season started that I thought we'd go 8-5, just like last year, but without the blowouts.
I feel like last night portrayed that kind of team.

I've said we could be a better team without a better record too. I disagree with the last sentence. We were blown out last night, they just didn't score the points when they had the chance.
I can't believe we can't find a defense. Un fucking believable! With a defense, that team could be as you say, and building to next year. We don't have it that I can tell.
-
Didn't see anything that much resembled Auburn football.
Definitely don't know who we are or who we can rely on offensively. Ram the ball down the field and then throw three passes into the fifth row of the stands. Why?
The linebackers were absolutely awful in my opinion. Unfortunately the defensive scheme we're attempting to run counts on linebackers holding their own.
Not throwing in the towel, but was really disappointed with that lukewarm pile of oatmeal I saw last night.
Make all the ten-win predictions you want, but Clemson is a mediocre team with a defense that's going to get gashed a bunch this season. And AU didn't play with the energy or enthusiasm it takes to win against a punk ass team having a sort of decent night. They should not have been able to out-talent us.
Not going to keep hammering at it, but that was a piss poor showing in every aspect.
Frazier is better than Moseley. So is a baby iguana.
The defense didn't give up 40 points. It would have if Clemson receivers could catch.
Mason isn't bad but he's small. Need somebody else to step in.
Blake can catch the ball. Is he by himself?
The coaching staff does a good job getting the talent there. They've got to do a better job getting that talent in the right places doing the right things than they did last night. That was miserable.

Other than your assessment of Clemson, which I think is rooted in hate for Dabo, I agree with all the rest.
-
Also, more on Mason. He can carry between the tackles, just not 30 times a game, but we have 3 similar backs in Mason, Blakely, and Grant, and they can do that and more between them. Let OMac be a 3rd down/change of pace back running the speed sweep option, and throw play action to Lutz over the middle, and deep shots to Blake.
That said...no defensive improvement, and I mean a lot, then we are no better than 7-6.

I really don't know what you expected out of Frazier. He is a sophomore starting in his first game having attempted a whole 10 passes last year. And what did you want Loeffler to know, he had yet to see him in a live game situation. Big difference from practice. As I said teams usually show the most improvement between the first and second games. Some of y'all have some serious expectations.

So many of you are in the wrong line of work.
You should all be coaching.

McCarron won a NC as a sophomore in his first year as a starter. He only threw like 30 more passes than Frazier his frosh year, and it was only in mop up duty against 2nd and 3rd team scrubs. Frazier was higher ranked coming out of HS than McCarron was. And it's not like he's a 1st round NFL pick in waiting or anything. Not saying that winning a NC and only losing 1 game should be where the bar is set for Frazier, but it's not like it's set in stone that he has to be horrible just because he's a sophomore. McCarron is average to maybe slightly above average (maybe), and has some good pieces of the puzzle around him. AU has recruited very well over the past few years, so what gives? I think that is sort of where some people are coming from.
Why Frazier didn't get more reps last season, I don't know. It was mind boggling at the least, given the play of Mosley and Trotter. That's on the coaches. I think everybody expects a QB that is at least serviceable. And while it appears Frazier has improved over last year, I'm not sure he's at the point of being serviceable yet. He looked pretty good in the first quarter, but I don't know what happened the rest of the game. Now, we're back to a point that was made last year. If QB A was "dead even" with QB B in pre-season, if the bad play continues, do you put QB B in at some point to give him a shot?

You guys had an all world defense last year. We do not.

I expected him to be able to complete a ten yard pass. I expected him to be able to scramble. I expected him to be able to realize that the pocket collapsed and he had held onto the ball for 3 seconds too long, throw it away instead of taking a 7 yard loss. I did not expect him to light up the field, nor would I expect the O co-ordinater to think that he could. Hence if running the ball is working why in the hell start throwing it when your QB couldn't hit shit. Or maybe set up some creative swing passes, screens or quick slants.
If that is not realistic then I don't know what the hell is for a highly recruited athlete.
-
And if you think McCarron is the reason you won the MNC last year you are an idiot.

That is very true but at least McCarron could complete a throw for a first down when needed.
-

I don't think he is the reason. Like I said, he has some good pieces of the puzzle around him. He doesn't have to carry the entire team on his shoulders. He's not a worldbeater on his own, and he didn't have to be as a sophomore, or a junior for that matter. I don't think anybody expects Frazier to be a worldbeater either. With the exceptional recruiting AU has had over the past few years, the pieces of the puzzle should be in place. You guys have the talent. You guys should have a defense at least comparable to Alabama's. There are some studs on that side of the ball. From the outside looking in, I just don't get it. Why isn't the puzzle being put together?
-
This is eerily similar to last year's "Tongans are fucking strong" argument you had after Utah State pushed us to the last second.
I stated that Utah State was a pretty good football team, which they were. First bowl game for them in 14 YEARS (7-6 record with the 6 losses being an average of 30-26). This Clemson team is very good and they'll be even better when Watkins comes back.
-

Their losses, other than to Auburn, were to Colorado State, BYU, Fresno State, La Tech, and Ohio (not Ohio State.....Just Ohio.)
They beat Weber State, Wyoming, Hawaii, San Jose State, Idaho, Nevada, and New Mexico State. If that's all that it takes to be "pretty good", then you guys owe Gus Malzahn and Ted Roof an apology.
-
This team will get better, the DL (particularly the DTs) will get better. The OL will get better (IMO, they did pretty good), Frazier will get better. Auburn had the chances last night. My question is, would everyone be gnashing their teeth had Auburn won? Would people be questioning Coach Chizik, stating that he's not a good coach, he's on the hot seat, lose one more game and he should be fired, yada, yada, yada...Seriously? Auburn has some of the biggest pussies calling themselves fans of Auburn and no I'm not talking about people here, although there is one maybe two people here that're calling themselves Auburn fans, but in reality they're inbred bammers. Like I said before the season started, (8-4/9-3). It could be more toward 8-4, though I'll have a better read on the team after the 3rd game.

No, but Auburn will beat them.
-
Their losses, other than to Auburn, were to Colorado State, BYU, Fresno State, La Tech, and Ohio (not Ohio State.....Just Ohio.)
They beat Weber State, Wyoming, Hawaii, San Jose State, Idaho, Nevada, and New Mexico State. If that's all that it takes to be "pretty good", then you guys owe Gus Malzahn and Ted Roof an apology.
You mean the Ohio Bobcats that beat Penn State yesterday? Like I stated before, their average in their 6 losses was four points. So yeah, they were a pretty good football team...regardless of what you or anyone thinks or say.

I hope you understand why that was one of the dumbest measuring sticks that you could have possibly used. But something tells me that you don't.

fudge you. This sucked. Stop the better team bullshoot and go suck a richard.
Thanks for your insightful football analysis.

Actually, the CB is at 8 yards from the ball, which is standard in Cover 3.

Some retrospect.
First loss in a season opener by Chizik since he came to Auburn.
When Auburn loses the season opener:
2005 Lost to Ga. Tech, finished 9-3
2003 Lost to USC finished 8-5
2002 Lost to USC finished 9-4
1998 Lost to Virginia finished 3-8
1992 Lost to Ole Miss finished 5-5-1
1984 Lost to Miami finished 9-4
That's it until you get back to Barfield and Jordan.

So, other than the two disaster years (which each had their own fucked up circumstances), if history plays out we're an 8/9 win team. Sounds like what all the people without guns to their temples this week are saying here.

Out of all of the teams on the list, this team reminds me more of the '02 team than any. Young across they board but very talented. New offensive and defensive coordinators. Sophomore QB...... That team also lost to a pathetic Ron Zook Florida team and had their hearts ripped out at the very end by Georgia. However, they did curb stomp the defending SEC Champ LSU at Jordan Hare and they also junk punched an overhyped Harvey U team in their own fucking house. Let me rephrase that. Out of all the teams on the list, I hope in the end this team reminds me more of the '02 team than any.

None of those are THIS team. Going back to Dye, even in the bad years, we had a defense. We don't have a defense. A good defense covers a lot of deficiencies. A bad one exposes or amplifies them. The offense we saw from Auburn the other night will get better, and wasn't horrible. But, by design, it's no supposed to be prolific in scoring points. It's supposed to compliment a good or great defense and special teams. Cannot for the life of me figure out why there seems to be NO IMPROVEMENT on defense.

Watch the game again.
There may not have been as much of a revolutionary improvement as most of us were expecting/hoping for, but to pretend like that was exactly as bad as Roof's product, is probably due to those high expectations you set.

Only the sixth season opener lost since 1977 though.
i just didn't see anything that moved me other than some decent runs. Everything else was numbingly average.
And say whatever you wish, Frazier is a nice kid but he's not an SEC caliber quarterback. He might be fine in the ACC or the Big East, but he's not SEC.
Biggest problem on defense is linebacker. Just don't have anybody doing the job there. it's like an enormous black hole. They can't cover receivers out of the backfield, their angles were consistently terrible, they hit with all the pop of a soggy spitball.
We don't have a QB and we don't have linebackers. That's the worst possible combo for the SEC. Not sure what can be done to fix it. Coaching isn't going to solve those issues. How can we have NO quarterback worth a shit? How can Jake fucking Holland be the best option we have at LB?

We didn't tackle well at all. Check.
We couldn't get off the field on third down. Check.
We gave up long drives to an average offense. Check.
We didn't contain the quarterback. Check.
Linebackers were invisible most of the night. Check. (after Bynes, that is)
Defensive line got its shit pushed in by a makeshift offensive line. Check.
We made an average running back look like the second coming of Barry Sanders. Check.
Wasn't a matter of expectations. Clemson had 28 first downs and 528 yards of total offense. They dropped enough passes to put 40+ on the board. They had 320 yards rushing.
That's abysmal in any book. Clemson isn't that fucking good. And they were without their best player. There's not much positive you can take away from that. It wasn't a whole lot better.
-
There was also a record set with ellington's rush yards. Most EVER by a single running back against An AU defense. At least according to the twitters.

Other than me personally reserving judgement on Frazier, I agree.

This is what I don't understand. Chizik has had 3 full recruiting years. We should have players in these areas. Chizik being a defensive coach I can't get past not having any quality experienced LB's, it's unacceptable. Even if Frazier develops this year we should be two deep at QB right now. I understand Cam left earlier than expected but he will still be gone this year and all we have at QB is a sophomore.
-
No, but Auburn will beat them.
Unless we don't.
-
Simps take:
Although I saw some mistakes by the coordinators and also by our key players, I also saw much improvement in many areas. The defense is much more aggressive and an offense that can play smash
mouth football. I'm one of those that has found many things to be hopefull for in this years Auburn Tigers, and many to follow. I certainly think this loss to Clemson sucks ass but it is to a team that is Senior heavy which did happen to win their own conference last year and looks to be on the same track this year.
Cons - We lost
Pros - I saw more promise than what I expected in Fraziers arm. We have a very talented group of RB's. Auburns defense is much more aggresive. Auburns special teams is this shit. Both the DL and OL have
a ton of depth.

If mediocrity is a Pro then I guess we can say there is hope for next weeks game against Mississippi State. Yes, this was the first game but as always (Cam not included) we find ourselves with yet another QB that was great in highschool but just can't seem to turn the page. Hell, it took Trotter...God Fing Bless him for his bowl performance but wtf. It took the hand of god for him to even give an above average showing and we had to wait for his final game to see that. Frazier look scared, confused and he could not for the life of himself check down to a crossing route or even a simple dump pass....he did however dump passes all over the field but not in a arms reach of our receivers. Our defense looks mean, yes. However, did any of you bother to look at the number of yards they put on us (528)....I'd rather have fing creme puffs on the field as long as they can tackle. We are War Damn Eagles and we should never be OK with mediocrity. The play calling was so sporadic that we were all so confused with it it took us another day to figure out what happend. Mason, first down, McCalebb, First down...run YAY, run YAY...Pass WTF WTF WTF, run Yay. OH well...off my soap box. I hope Gene figures it out quick that we have some awesome weapons within 15 yards of scrimage and to fing punish defenses with it and then let Long arm Frazier stretch it out to Blake to keep em honest. (If Called I forsee a 40 plus yard run with a screen to Mason with that Tank of a FB leading the way) I don't think we called one screen that entire game...WTF!
War Turkey Out!

After one start as a soph? Way too early for me to make this leap. He definitely didn't look solid in his passing. I think he did adequate in other areas. If CSL can help him deliver the ball on a line, he will be fine. Maybe it will click this week.

OK, I over stepped my intro rant. "War Turkey" FF Team Name....The meat curtins I play with on that league are all Big 10 Alumni. Being that I was the only SEC junkie I got the "War Turkey" tag and out of humor it stuck. I'd say it's better than what we call the guy from OSU "My nuts never dropped". Anyway, I'll call the whambulance next time prior to an all out rant.

Keihl Frazier will get better, the OL will get better (the jury is still out on Chad Slade), the LB Corp will get better once the DTs get better (notice in the Clemson game) they went to the Pistol Package a majority of the time which caused Auburn to counter with a Nickel Package...Clemson then ran right up the gut while in the Pistol, they let our DEs fly up the field (taking themselves out of position) then the Guard and Center would double the DT on the side that they were running to up to the ONE LBer (the TE would block Bates)...they ran that same smash play over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...then Tajh Boyd faked the handoff and ran untouched for 20-30 yards...mind you this was all done with a HUNH late into the 4th. Also, the ball was being snapped while Jake was trying to get the Defensive play call from the sidelines.
So, not only were we not in the correct Defense for Clemson's Smash play, we weren't even in the correct position some of the times.
Like I've said before, the best advice I'll give the Chicken Littles of the Auburn fanbase, some reside here, is to wait a few games, before you try to crap on everything. If you Chicken Littles didn't see the improvements from last year that I saw, then I'm not sure anything I say will help you, because your mind has already been made up...ever since Coach Chizik was hired (didn't see the Chicken Littles that much during the 2010 National Championship season)....BTW, Auburn will lose 2 or 3 more games this season.
