Hit God's country this past Saturday for the annual Tigers Unlimited weekend...go to practice...put on the feedbag. I've got a buddy who was in charge of giving out the passes for HS Corches and players parents so I got one from him to get on the sidelines. The practice itself was teh suxxors as they spent the first half of it learning how they'll come out of the tunnel and go through warm ups on game day. I guess I took it for granted that they automatically know that shit, but obviously you have to work on it to look polished on game day.
The second half they worked on fundamentals and situational drills. Some general observations:
Tre Mason, Mike Blakely, Corey Grant and Erique Florence were all nursing minor injuries and weren't even in the stadium.
Jay Porsche Prosch is a fire hydrant on steroids. He's got meat hooks the size of my thighs hanging off his shoulders. Chris Landrum is up to 240 and running back up at FB.
If they played Clemson today, the O-Line would be Robinson, Sullen, Dismukes, Slade and Kozan. The one's on the defensive line would be Lemonier, Blackson, Whittaker and either Ford or Egua. No surprises there but it appears Carter, Wright and Zigler are the backups and suddenly, AU is pretty damn deep across the Dee Liner.
Kris Kross Frost is up to 233 and Cassanova McKenzie is now listed at 6'3" 243 and has been turning heads in camp.
Got to stand right by the D-Line and LB's as Corch Pornstache worked with them on signals, calls, blitzes etc. Intense, hands-on guy with huge attention to detail. He brought in former UGA All-Everything LB Tony Gilbert as Graduate Assistant to help with the linebackers. Speaking of intense, Chizik lost it several times Saturday. He was pissed and screaming like a banshee.
And now for the QB situation. Moseley only warmed up but didn't participate in any of the drills. Frayzher and Wallace took all the snaps. Kyle looked like a 10 day old shit sandwich you found in the back of the refrigerator. He hit Blake on as beautiful a pass i the back of the end zone as you'll ever see. His next 4 passes would just be  I sincerely hope it was just an off throwing day but he sure didn't do anything Saturday to make me feel better about that position. Wallace took way more snaps but was doing it with the back ups. I know what we've been reading and hearing about him....but he was awful. He's got a weird, short-arm throwing motion and not accurate at all. Maybe just a bad day all around.
This O-line class is bad to the damn bone. They look like clones, all about 6'5" and 290-300. All good looking athletes. I heard several comments from people on the sidelines how noticeably different this team looks athletically from last year to this. I had to agree. One coach said he went to an Alabama practice last year and this Auburn team looks more like the athletes they had on the field.
Quick hitters:
Melvin Ray is a beast of a receiver. 6'3" 217
True freshman Jonathan Jones is listed at 166 but he laid Therezie out on a KO return,(Put him out of practice) and then popped the shit out of TE Ricky Parks causing a fumble
Talked to Brett Eddins for a while and he talked about how good it felt de-cleating J. Russell. I jizzed
We need a QB to step up

bout fuckin time, I was about to eat a bullet.

Not what I wanted to read. Fuck me can anyone throw the ball. How do we not have a QB...this really boggles my mind.

The drills they were running at one point were basically no contact. The QB's stayed back there much longer than they normally would and still couldn't hit my broad ass. So they weren't running their real offense and were actaully trying to simulate a lot of the Clemson hurry-up. But accuracy was a definite issue.

Did they get the helmets correctly aligned?

Isn't accuracy kind of the main point behind being a Quarterback?

Only when you're passing

How accurate were the handoffs?

The long snapping was flawless.

Does no good when the camera is just laying on the shower room floor while........never mind.
-
I forgot my shower pass. I took the 35 mm up there but just as we got out of the car, it started to rain. So I decided to forego toting it around. Turned out it stopped when we hit the stadium and stayed nice most of the day.
For those that haven't been on campus in a while, the construction going on is off the charts. It will look very different. Sewell Hall was torn down and they've already got about 3 stories of new construction on that site. The new student act buildings and whatever else they're constructing are huge and sit directly between Beard Eaves and JHS. The changes on this campus in just the last 3-4 years is mind boggling.

True.
I am also really concerned about the QB position. I think this may be the downfall of Chizik and Co. actually. I don't see it getting better anytime soon. I am not overly thrilled about the 2 we have coming in next year either. And as you know, you can win some ball games without a good QB, but you can't go to the promised land. And right now, we don't have a good QB, and I don't think we will for a good 3 to 4 years.

Some of my worstest fears are not yet confirmed but this doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies.

I believe that CSL will have a big say in this. That hire was to address your concern.

I'm not writing him...Frasier...off just yet because it was just a drill they were running and there really wasn't anything done in rhythm. And I say Frasier because unless Moseley heals up quickly and just blows em' away the last week, he's our guy. I did see enough to know that Wallace is not even close to being ready. I think I'd have a better guage if they were actually scrimmaging. It's just that in the 15-20 or so passes he threw in this drill, there was only 1 that made it move. We shall see.
Oh, and it looks like we'll see a good bit of the same option type plays that Frasier ran last year where he either hands it to the back coming or keeps it and heads into the line. That's fine and was effective last year until teams figured out that's the only play he was running.

Was up there Sunday and thought the same thing. The shit going on from Sewell all the way down Donahue to the new student village in front of the old Coleseum is crazy. You can't even half tell whats going on.

Have there been any plans to level BEC?

Looks like it is just surrounded at the moment, so we wouldnt really know if they did. Wouldn't it be kind of hard to once theyve built all around it with new shit?

Would seem logical to have torn it down prior to this stuff being built around it. It needs to implode though.

Going off of the news reports and message boards, I had higher hopes for Wallace's performance. I have heard similar concerns re the throwing motion from a friend who saw him play hs ball. He is fresh enough that maybe CSL can bring him along to hold us over until JJ gets in. We don't have any choice, KF has to perform at a much higher level than last year.

AJ McCarron, Greg McElroy, and Chris Leak say thank you for the undeserved complement.

Disagree...great game managers and could complete a pass when necessary. I don't remember accuracy issues with any of these guys.

Agree. Especially Leak. I thought he was a good QB. Not great, but good. We don't even appear to have good.

All 3 of those guys are game managers that don't make a whole lot of mistakes. All of those were pretty damn accurate in the passing game too, and they didn't throw the ball to the guy in the wrong colored jersey.
All of those also were not asked to win the games alone. They were asked to manage the ball game and not lose it. If that's what kind of offense we have, and Kyle can do that...great! If not, we are fucked...

Not many, but Auburn isn't alone in the SEC still searching for a starting quarterback
Charles Goldberg
AUBURN, Alabama – Everybody has a starting quarterback in the SEC.
Everybody. Except Florida. And Ole Miss.
And Auburn.
Kentucky became the 11th SEC team to identify a starting quarterback when it named Maxwell Smith its starter Monday.
We're guessing Auburn will be next when it chooses between Kiehl Frazier and Clint Moseley this week, though a lot of people have talked up freshman Jonathan Wallace publicly, and practice observers have privately been equally impressed. That doesn't mean he's in the running for opening day. Florida will choose between Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett, maybe next week. Ole Miss will likely go into next week, too. Could the coaches already know? Absolutely. It's go time.
Here are the starting QBs in the SEC:
Alabama: AJ McCarron
Arkansas: Tyler Wilson
Auburn: Kiehl Frazier or Clint Moseley
Florida: Jacoby Brissett or Jeff Driskel
Georgia: Aaron Murray
Kentucky: Maxwell Smith
LSU: Zach Mettenberger
Ole Miss: Bo Wallace or Barry Brunetti
Mississippi State: Tyler Russell
Missouri: James Franklin
South Carolina: Connor Shaw
Tennessee: Tyler Bray
Texas A&M: Johnny Manziel
Vanderbilt: Jordan Rodgers
Auburn returns to the practice field late this afternoon after a two-day break.

Perhaps they were awed by the physical specimen that is teh Snaggle. Thus causing a poor showing.

I know it was the Spring game but to me, Kalil Frasier looked poised and accurate. While the coaches have been reluctant to give any of them real praise, outside of Wallace being farther along than they thought, I haven't heard anything really bad about Kiyul. I'm gonna' hold out hope it was just a shitty day at the office.
-
If Wallace starts, we're Fu-u-u-u-double ucked. He threw 2 passes that bounced 2 yards in front of the WR from 10 yards away. And Chizik was up in his grill most all day.

This is really what will make the difference in exceeding expectations and a losing season this year. If we don't have adequate QB play--which means what you say about game mgmt and minimizing the turnovers, we don't have a very good shot fosho. Even with improvements in the other areas, imo.

Brantley shined in Florida's Spring game and ended up throwing 60% overall goimg 7-4 for the season with over 2000 yds., 10 tds., 7 picks. Yet it is a fail by Florida standards.
They had a porous line and couldn't run when it counted.
Frazier and Moseley have more to work with and should get a couple more possessions per and better field position aided by special teams.
We don't have a proven bellcow like Dyer and how we look early (Dabo-Mullen) is likely how we'll be defended all season long. And like Prowler, I think State will give us a good read, better than Clemson.
McToo can thread it where they ain't. And any team would be thrilled to have Wilson or Murray. I just hope we can run it some when teams are daring us to throw. If Loeffler is giving it this  during the State game...
and re: "Big Movers" on Signing Day portion of x...prospects like to sign a LOI where they see themselves thriving in a system not squandering their talents. And for all of the spendor on the Plains, we need a QB that can really deal even if he is being suffocated in a ball control offense. We tried to get Wilson, Winston and signed Pike.
When we stop signing passers, the receivers will stop coming. And that in a nutshell is why I preferred the NH over the systems of our rivals. NOBODY FIGURED OUT SHIT, WE SIMPLY COULDN'T STOP ANYBODY, COULDN'T GET THE BALL IN OUR RECEIVER'S HANDS WHEN IT COUNTED THE MOST AND it is a wonder we had that many ground yards finishing as well as we did considering the inconsistent offensive line play.
