Title: Moseley is named.....
Post by: Godfather on August 09, 2012, 09:34:07 AM
Clint.

Doesn't look good for those fans in the Clint Moseley for QB1 camp.

Quote
AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn's first scrimmage of the season did little to shed light on the quarterback battle between Kiehl Frazier and Clint Moseley.

For starters, Moseley's right shoulder is still inflamed with tendinitis, limiting his ability to throw in the offense.

Frazier is healthy, but the play of all the quarterbacks in the scrimmage left Auburn offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler looking for something more.

"We've got some work to do still," Loeffler said. "We're not where we want to be yet, and we're going to bust our rear end these next couple of weeks to be ready to compete in Atlanta."

Moseley, who hurt his shoulder in the spring, has battled the injury throughout the summer. At one point, he traveled to Birmingham to see Dr. James Andrews, who found nothing structurally wrong with the joint.

But it has failed to heal to the point where Moseley can fully compete for the job. After Wednesday's scrimmage, Moseley indicated that he hasn't been throwing much in practice.

"It was hurting, but I knew I could throw through the pain to get some reps," Moseley said. "I threw 7-on-7 for the first time in a few days and was able to get some throws in the scrimmage."

Moseley is still optimistic that his shoulder will heal, but the window of opportunity gets slimmer and slimmer by the day.

"It's therapy, therapy, therapy. That's what I have to do to get there," Moseley said. "It'll come around."

With Moseley hurting, Frazier and Wallace took the bulk of Auburn's 65 snaps in Wednesday's scrimmage, but neither quarterback was available for interviews. As a true freshman, Wallace won't be allowed to grant interviews until Aug. 13, and Frazier did not come to the interview room.

According to the players and coaches, Auburn's quarterbacks connected on a couple of big plays -- defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder said his unit had "a couple of major busts in coverage" -- but Frazier and Wallace made their fair share of mistakes.

Loeffler, always reluctant to talk about specific players, responded to a question about Frazier by echoing his mantra about the entire offense's performance Wednesday.

"Inconsistent," Loeffler said. "We need to improve. We need to improve across the board."

Chizik has stuck to the same set of criteria every time he's been asked about the race for the starting quarterback job.

Auburn is looking for somebody to lead a relatively young offense.

"At the quarterback position, we're looking for a guy who takes command of the huddle, that is never rattled by circumstances and executes every play with poise and confidence," Chizik said. "You've got to go out there and move the football, and the guy who's going to be our starting quarterback is the guy that handles those moments the best."

Chizik also said that one of the quarterbacks could separate himself from the rest of the pack during Auburn's scrimmages.

The next one is scheduled for Saturday.

"We've got some things we've got to clean up there," Chizik said. "We're expecting it to be much cleaner on Saturday."

Get comfortable holding a clipboard and signalling plays, Clint.

So, Frazier starts and Wallace is the backup?  Yikes.

Possibly, from us. Depends on how Frazier plays.

I wonder if Pike would have made a difference? From his standpoint, what an idiot. The position is wide open and he is in Kentucky playing TE. Parents, teach you kids not to be idiots!

This should make you happy.  The stash recognizes that there were busts.  Roof would have just thought they were giving the WR's a cushion.

I wonder how Trotter would be doing now? He looked great in the bowl game. Since Cam was recruited, our QB situation has just been "odd". Not sure what other way to put it.

This tells me something about his QB skills. Not only did he go to Kentucky but he isn't even in the QB rotation there.

Kile Frayzher will be the man.  And there's 22 days left til Atlanta.  That's a shitload of practice time to get things ironed out.

I'm anxious to see what Frazier can do in this offense.  But yeah, if Moseley can't fully compete now, and we're 3 weeks away from the season opener...I can't see him getting back in the race, unless, Frazier sucks beyond any imaginable suckage!

Didn't say anything about him.  I know nothing about him, but did read P. Marshall to write yesterday that Wallace was apparently impressive, and said "recruiting rankings be damned, he showing he'll be something special one day".  I like the sound of that for what it's worth coming from a blogger/writer, he's seen a lot of athletes come through Auburn, and I'll put some faith in his opinion.

I saw the kid play in person several times his last few years. Knowing his HC's from both his fresh/soph and jr/sr years (he had 2 coaches) and what they think of him personally from talking to them both, he is something special. He carried an entire offense. He has a way of breaking tackles and being elusive with a decent arm. He doesnt have a huge arm but it's good. As good as anyone we have on roster not named Kiehl Frazier. If he had been 2 inches taller and maybe 20 lbs heavier, I think he would have been ranked higher. His size is what kept him from being a huge SEC prospect.
