He's the second-winningest coach in major college football history. He's a great ambassador for the game. He's Birmingham's own and never forgets his roots.
By all means, honor Bowden's life. But not with a statue in downtown Birmingham....
Talk about political dynamite. For starters, Bowden's success came at Florida State, not in Alabama -- the state where he was denied his dream to coach the Crimson Tide.... :taunt:
Florida State built a Bowden statue in 2004. How many does one man need?
Officially, the NCAA recognizes Bowden with 377 wins, second behind Joe Paterno in major college football history. Bowden claims 411 wins -- he even signs autographs that way -- because of 12 vacated by the NCAA due to Florida State's academic scandal and 22 he won at South Georgia Junior College. (Sounds like he learned to count like a Bammer)

Pichers?

Denied his dream? He would have never coached them. Just like he turned down the SEC 3 times. Bowden knew he had it good at FSU.

The story he has told several times was that he got the call, thinking he would be named the coarch. While he was in another room, they talked to and announced that Stallings was going to be the coach.

When BB saw how good he had it at FSU and being able to make their own schedule (pre 1992) ala ND, I really think he wanted no part of the SEC as far as being in it as a team or a coach. He would've been a real moron to walk into that hornet's nest.

Oh please oh please oh pleeeeaaase put up a statue of Bowden right smack in the middle of Bham. That would be priceless.
Best locations for said statue?
My picks:
1.) On UAB campus.
2.) West side of malfunction junction for the nice drive home.
3.) Right in the middle of 5 points for all the drunken bammers.
Last but not least....
4.) Replace the Vulcan.

I'd love to see them put it in the empty spot where tha Bahr's statue used to be at Lesion Field.
Or, maybe they could just put it right outside of the SEC offices.

I've dreamed of doing this in Tuscaloosa for years:

I was gonna say that but considering the condition of that hell hole and location in town, that would actually make bammers happy I think.

Is that Hussein?
yes, Bahr is very similar looking to Hussein. Saddam, not Baracky.
