4.3 quake shakes up East Texas

A 4.3-magnitude earthquake rattled eastern Texas early Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake, at a depth of three miles, was centered near Timpson, about 155 miles east-southeast of Dallas, according to the USGS.  It struck at 3:12 a.m. (4:13 a.m. ET).

At least one building in Timpson showed damage, with a number of bricks falling to the street below, CNN affiliate KLTV in Tyler, Texas, reported.

Ollie Barrett told KLTV that bricks from her chimney came crashing through her roof.

"There was a loud rumbling noise and then there was a lot of crashing," she said. Her 52-inch, wall-mounted TV was crushed.

One woman was injured when she fell out of bed and cut her arm, CNN affiliate KSLA in nearby Shreveport, Louisiana, reported.

And the Shelby County sheriff's office had reports of broken windows from the temblor, dispatcher Karen Shield told CNN.

The quake was the second to hit the area in a week.  A 3.9 quake shook Timpson May 10.

Thursday morning's earthquake was the third-strongest in East Texas history, KLTV reported, surpassed only by quakes in 1957 and 1964.

Cliff Frohlich, a University of Texas scientist, said it's possible the most recent quakes are related to energy production activity in the area.

"There are some injection wells in the part of the country where these earthquakes occurred," Frolich told CNN. "If they were very close to an injection well, that would suggest they were."

Injection wells are used in the disposal of dirty water from energy production, Frohlich said.

Frohlich said injection wells should not be confused with fracking, a process which involves injecting water, sand and some chemicals deep into the earth to crack shale rock, which frees oil and gas.

"Fracking almost never causes quakes," Frohlich said.

I'd like to take Mother Nature to a sleazy motel, get in the shower, and... wash each other all over, and then go in the bedroom and do things you can only do in Bangkok...

Sugar britches, I appreciate your concern, but I am four and a half hours south of Dallas.  The only trembling and shaking I have felt around here lately has been the pleasurable self-inflicted kind.

If Texas had an asshole, Dallas is where it would be, so maybe Mother Nature just had some bad frijoles.

Looks to be to be just as far away from Dallas.  Just wondering hard to judge by this map.  Don't want my snookems getting hurt.

Twenty dollars to pay the rent? Maybe not. Maybe instead I'll spend it on the whore.

Good News! Houston is only the eighth-worst city in the country for smog — Cali still dominates bad air

The American Lung Association has released its annual "State of the Air" report, and guess what? Houston-Baytown-Huntsville is the eighth worst city in the United States for smog.

(Los Angeles topped the list, of course, followed by six other California municipalities.)

This bestowal seems a given — Houston is a city of drivers! It is surrounded by refineries! Honestly, considering the haze obscuring the downtown skyling on Thursday morning, we thought we'd rank higher on the Lung Association's naughty list.

Houston-Baytown-Huntsville all lumped together...  That's like saying Birmingham-Montgomery-Troy is all the same thing.  That is a serious stretching of boundaries to call THAT a single "city"... The appropriate term is CSA  or combined statistical area.  They would not have gotten the same result from just using Houston's statistics.

I don't live in Houston.  I live in Montgomery County.  The air at my house is just fine.

And with all due love and respect to the Xers trapped in that fetid wasteland, Dallas is still the asshole of the state.  They could be breathing unicorn farts of pure sunshine up there, and I would still hate that city, about as much as Kaos hates tomatoes.

Houston is south of Dallas-Funny when I flush it goes south also.

I don't live in Dallas-Live Northeast of Dallas. Not a big Dallas fan but it is where I live(much better than Houston)-Hope to retire in about 10 years and move back to Opelika

Maybe people in Dallas appreciate a keen car.  I'd rather have trees and a reduced asshole-per-capita ratio.

Hope to retire in about 10 years and move back to Opelika

Isn't that the dream for us all...

Well most of them are at the Bryon-Nelson this weekend, biggest group of Douche Bags to be seen. I went one year and saw guys walking around in there golf shoes and gloves sticking out their back pockets. Like someone playing was gonna call them to hit a shot for them.

And we do have the King Douche (Tony R)

Isn't that the dream for us all...

Not a day doesn't go by that I don't think of moving home. We have looked at some Property but with aging parents in the area right now that ain’t feasible.

Let's face a fact. Every big metro city in the US (even the South) has a huge carpet bagger ratio, which is in direct parallel with the asshole ratio. Sucks, but it is what it is. I realize this about Atlanta every time I go. NOLA and NYC may be 2 of the few cities where most of the residents are natives.
