Gene Chizik says his young Tigers are growing up

ORANGE BEACH - If you're looking for a clue as to what might be in store for Auburn in 2012, Tigers coach Gene Chizik would like to direct your attention to the last game of the 2011 season.
"Virginia was a dang good football team," Chizik said of the team Auburn beat 43-24 in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. "We ended the game taking four knees at the 4-yard line or we're going to score 50 points. And that whole game was done and played by young guys.
"I'm going to refresh your memory: The sky is falling, we don't have our starting tailback, all the sudden our quarterback gets hurt, and all the sudden we don't have our starting offensive coordinator. But we found a way with our young guys to come back and win that game and win it very decisively in the end. Those are very, very positive things that happened with our football team."
Speaking at the Baldwin County Auburn Club's annual meeting in Orange Beach, Chizik said the Tigers will again be young this season, with a roster that he estimated will be 70 percent freshman and sophomores.
But the youngsters, many of whom played extensively last season, are growing up, he said. And they'll be pushed by talented newcomers.
"We return 16 starters," Chizik said, not including specialists. "But here's the good news: All of those 16 aren't going to be returning starters because they've got young guys behind them that are going to beat them out.
"That's the competition we are finally getting to, and it is fun to watch."
Joining Chizik in Orange Beach were Aubie, the school's mascot, and Dr. Debbie Shaw, Aubunr's vice president of alumni affairs. The Baldwin County Auburn Club prsented $1,000 scholarships to seven county high school students and another, James Doolittle, received an endowed scholarship from Auburn.
Chizik encouraged them all to continue their support of Auburn and assured them "the future is extremely bright."
"Our standard is not eight wins. That is not OK," Chizik said. "You've got to go through those growing pains. We're going through them. But those guys are going to be one year older."

What is a starting offensive coordinator? Do we have depth at that position?

INS.
ICE

ICE
I don't deal with immigration law, so this may be a dumb question, but...does INS still exist? I know they split it into USCIS, CBP, and ICE, and stuck those under the DHS as opposed to the DoJ, but does INS still exist as an entity/service that encompasses those three? Or is it officially gone and now those three just exist in its place?

As I understand it, they restructured a lot of shit under the DHS umbrella. But to answer your question, no, INS is no longer, but ICE is the closest thing to it. CBP and ICE have overlap on the Customs front, but not sure what areas each deals with.

Gotcha. From the USCIS website, it looks like those three are all separate agencies under the DHS, as links to the ICE and CBP sites are listed as "Non-USCIS Links."
I'm sure splitting responsibilities amongst three separate agencies and having their duties overlap has been absolutely fantastic for efficiency.

I was content to let this thread go the way it was going, hell its the off season. But I keep hearing folks refer to this statement on the radio:

The optometrist in me says he slipped that right by everyone, and he's telling us Moseley won't be the starter.
The pissingmest in me says "What the fuck? Some of that young experienced talent from last season is going to be replaced with younger less physically mature, less experienced talent?"
Anybody else not worry a little about that statement?

Not me, because I'm a frequent Creed reader.
Seriously though, I think we'll see some changes to the lineup - most notably along the line. Position based purely on seniority breeds complacency, and I believe this is what Chizik is trying to avoid with that statement. Hunger breeds improvement, and we need our guys to starve. What he did by saying that was throw some kindling on the fire. The players heard it, I'm sure, and took notice. Those that didn't will be wearing really clean uniforms on Saturdays this fall.
I would be stunned if Moseley is named the starter. Based upon what I saw at A Day, the job belongs to Frazier.

Yup, I'm not worried about that statement.
If the returning starters are so mature and experienced, then they shouldn't get beat out...they should lead by example, not by letting a Underclassman beat them out. Steel sharpening Steel.

Hmmm, well it looks like my schedule just opened up for that weekend. Funny how that worked out.

Exactly. I mean who doesn't like to suck on a sweaty foot?

When I read that statement from Chizik, I immediately thought of Sullen and Slade getting beat out by Westerman and Robinson or Miller or any of the talented freshmen coming in. Or, it could be Robenson Therezie replacing any number of last years starting DB's.
We rollin' baby....5 deep.

But is that intellectually honest? After spending a few seconds punching random numbers, I've discovered that Auburn is actually rolling 4.6 deep. That number is respectable but by no means something to brag about.

I was counting walk-ons so the number is actually 5.37 that we rollin'. I didn't want to overstate it so I rounded down.
