This is one of the few things about the military I miss. At these events you see raw emotions, no bs no pandering to the camera’s. Just family members who have missed loved one who was in harm’s way a long way from home.

Of course deployment ceremonies are harder on the service member having to leave loved ones.  I always though deployments were harder on family members as they really don’t know where you are most of the time. I remember I had only been gone about 40 days when I got a chance to call my wife and she did not recognize my voice-That was kind of a gut punch.
