FSU introduces new sports mascot in appeal to kids

The Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- It's not Sammy Seminole, Chief Osceola or Renegade or even Superman - just a little old cartoon horse named Cimarron.

Florida State is promoting its latest mascot in hopes of breaking into a lucrative marketing arena based on merchandise sales to young - real young - and prospective fans.

University officials were quick to point out that the cartoonish Cimarron is not going to replace Chief Osceola's horse Renegade and will not appear at football events either. Sammy Seminole is already retired.

Florida State earns roughly $2.5 million a year in merchandise sales although none from the "kids" arena that it hopes will be dented by Cimarron's arrival.

Cimarron is defined in Webster's as "wild and wooly" often in reference to wild sheep found along the banks of the Arkansas River.

If this is true, then WTF.

Big XII would be the clear winners of that deal. Let alone that it would have made so much more geographic sense for us than them.

True that but the SEC has Mizzou in the East division.

I dont think making fans travel from Clemson to Ames makes much sense. Factor in that they are also talking about Miami and WVU, and the traveling really makes no sense.
