Title: Vice President Nods
Post by: Townhallsavoy on April 06, 2012, 11:53:03 AM
Who do you think Romney will pick up for the VP?

He needs something to bring in conservatives, blacks, and women.

Rubio?
Haley?
Palin?
Rice?

Actually think Rice would be the pick for the selection you stated but Rubio would be my pick.

He also needs someone who will bring in the South and Mid-Atlantic state voters.

I'd like to see him add Marco Rubio to his ticket or, possibly, Col. Allen West (R-FL).  Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal would be a great running-mate too as would Gov. Nikki Haley.   I read a nasty rumor on one of the political websites that I haunt frequently that he has been considering Mike Huckabee...I would have posted on it but the thought of that bigot makes me ill.  Plus, I can't imagine Rev. Huckleberry on the same ticket with "a godless, MORMON cultist".

Which is why Huckleberry doesn't need to be on the ticket.  The entire religious crusade of the Republicans needs to end.  It was never sincere to begin with.

Rubio seems to be the main guy in the rumor mill, but with so many statistics coming out about women loving Obama, he may need to pick up a female.

Haley's not as attractive as Palin, but she at least hasn't been tarnished by the media yet.

I think Rice would be the best candidate if she wants it.  Experience.  Pull in the remnants of Bush supporters.  Semi-attractive.  Eloquent.  Black.  Female.

I agree, and she is from AL.

I agree you need 2 of the 3 features of being: Southern, Female and/or Minority.

Palin? No - too polarizing.

Rice? No - too neoconish and tied to Bush.

Haley? Yep - southern, woman and Indian (minority) 3 of 3

Rubio? Yep - Cuban and southern 2 of 3

Jindal? Yep - southern and Indian 2 of 3

Ryan? Maybe - only caveat is the ticket would be too "north" heavy. Smart as hell and knows economics.

THS - getting the black vote is useless for the GOP. It won't happen for a long time. Herman Cain was the best chance at that. Most innercity blacks just won't ever relate to a "rich old white man". Plus most of them are brainwashed into believing that. The "Herman Cains" that make it out of that mentality are the exceptions. The GOP should probably more try to pull in the Latinos, Women and Moderate/Independents.

Great analysis.  You've sold me on Gov. Nikki Haley too.  She would be a great, forward-thinking choice.

Which means Romney will probably pick Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota or another yawn-inducing person.

Personally I would like Herman Cain or Allen West.

Yes, indeed.  But I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high.
