Title: Knob Creek
Post by: Snaggletiger on June 11, 2008, 09:39:18 PM
I would just like to say that this has now become my favorite bourbon.  A little pricey so I can't get it every time I'm in the mood for a good bourbon and coke.  But dayyummmm...it's worth the extra $$$.

That is all.

We had some friends over last week and I broke out the Creek and they all, including my wife, partook of my Knob (Actually, that was later after I got my wife drunk)  None of them are bourbon drinkers and they all said, "Now dis' some good shit".

It is readily available here in Atlanta.  Let me know if you can't find it in Alabama and I may hook a nigga up.  (unless you drink it with fucking coke.  In which case you might as well be drinking something like this)

Sophisticated people drink Canadian Mist and Mello Yello, mixed in the bottle.

You homo's can keep your bourbon.  I'll take Glenfiddich 18 year (neat) any day of the week.

Actually, I had to quit drinking bourbon back in college.  Let's just say I had a few bad episodes.  It seems that after a few glasses I thought I turned into the Incredible Hulk and tried to fight anything that moved.

Scotch, although similar to bourbon, doesn't give me the same effect.  Or if it does, I haven't had any of my friends give me an 'intervention' talk yet.

Sage advice for free.  You can't get this shit anywhere else.

The Macallan 18 year is very nice, and the 25 year is even better, especially with a Padron 3000 Maduro or a Partagas Black Label.  I enjoy the Cask Strength version as well.  Unfortunately, when it's 97+ degrees outside, I prefer something with ice.  I don't mind doing that to a Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish accompanied by a Montecristo Platinum.  Of course, Rocky Patel's The Edge Maduro and La Gloria Cubana Wavell Maduro go with anything.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that night.  Maybe it's not the type of alcohol that I consume, but the amount?

Excellent pairings GarMan but don't forget Churchill's or Sandeman's Port with any of the above cigars...especially Partagas Black Label.

Hot weather...I've taken to drinking Jack and Coke with any maduro.

Back on track
Knob Creek is a nice bourbon. Woodford Reserve is one of my favorites for the money. Good sipping. Neat. Splash of water. Ice cube. Whatever.
There are several bourbons out there that are quite spendy and you get what you pay for.
My regular bourbon is Ancient Age mixed with H2O or unsweetened tea. Not pricey, but is a solid bourbon.
Bourbon is like wine/beer, there are enough varieties out there that most folks can find one they like.
Jim Beam is bourbon and I can't drink that shit.
Jack Daniels is not bourbon and I can't drink that shit, either.
Wild Turkey gives me a bad head the nexyt day, so I ain't much on that either.
Old Charter  :cage:
Maker's Mark  :idhitit:

I sip of the Maker's as I type.  You are spot on Senor Titz.  My top 3...okay 4 bourbons are:

1. Knob Creek
2. Maker's Mark
3. Woodforde Reserve
4. 1792

I know squat about cigars but I feel the need to be firing one up right about now.  Actually, I'd like to be firing something else up about now but that's not an option at this particular time.

I've discovered that 20 year old Osborne port compliments a maduro extrememly well. I've got a couple of bottles of Sandeman. Really good stuff.

I don't recall, did you get one of the Cubans I was handing out at K-State last year? If not, you missed a treat. Those, along with the 16-year old scotch I was pouring, are one of lifes greatest pleasures.

I did get the Scotch.  No cigar though.  I have no knowledge or history with Scotch but I have to admit, I do recall that being pretty sweet.  K-State game....good times. Tiger In Spain....good man.

Try Ancient Age and report back.
I think it is solid and underpriced. Been making it since 1869. Good recipe, eh?

Okay, now you speak of something that we all must address.  The first official TigersX tailgate.  It's very simple.  I think I speak for everyone when I say the essentail ingredients to a successful X-Gate are:

1. Beer
2. Liquor (sounds as if proper bourbon and scotch are the order of the day)
3. Food..what the hell, we're guys, we'll plan something at the last minute, even if it's KFC.
4. Weed.  Uuuummm...okay.
5. Women.  I crave hookers, or at least young, flat bellied co-eds who just want to have a good time.
6. Music...Enough said.  Just set up up some good tunes.

If you can think of any other essentials to make the party complete, please in your put.  Otherwise, what game?  Where do we rope it off for the throw down?

 Muffy diving?
She didn't really up her life insurance like she told him she did.
He had to be a bummer fan.

An American tourist was charged with murder yesterday for allegedly drowning his bride of 11 days on a scuba diving trip on the Great Barrier Reef during their honeymoon. Christina Mae Watson, 26, died while diving on a shipwreck near the northeastern Australian city of Townsville while her husband looked on.

Daniel Watson, 31, of Birmingham, Alabama, had claimed during police interviews that his wife had panicked a few minutes into the dive. He said that as she thrashed around in the water, she grabbed hold of his mask and pushed it off his face. He later described seeing her, with her eyes wide and arms stretched out towards him, sink into the deep.

Mr Watson was an experienced diver who had completed a diving rescue course and was acting as a “dive buddy” for his wife, who was a novice. Despite his training, he told police that he decided to go for help rather than attempt to rescue his wife. One of the leaders of the dive trip pulled Mrs Watson to the surface, but attempts to resuscitate her failed.

The incident in October 2003 was captured by another member of the dive party who stopped to photograph his dive buddy with an underwater camera. In the background Mrs Watson can be seen in the murky depths as the dive master swims towards her.

Police believe that Mr Watson turned off the air supply of his wife until she was dead, or nearly dead, then turned it back on and let her sink to the seabed. The murder charge followed several months of inquiry by a Queensland coroner, who finally ruled yesterday that there were suspicious circumstances to the death. Mr Watson was not in court to hear the indictment against him and no plea was entered on his behalf. His lawyer argued that there was no motive for murder.

But Mrs Watson’s father, Tommy Thomas, claimed that his daughter had told him before the wedding that her fiancé had asked her to increase her life insurance and change the policy to make him the sole beneficiary. Mr Thomas told the court that his daughter decided to lie to Mr Watson and pretend that she had made the changes.

Yesterday police began preparing a warrant for Mr Watson’s arrest, the first step in what is expected to be a drawn-out extradition battle. It is not known where Mr Watson is living.

The inquest in Townsville heard that police, who believed initially that the death was an accident, started to become suspicious when Mr Watson changed some details of his story.

A postmortem examination found no medical condition that could have explained the death of Mrs Watson. Tests showed that there was nothing wrong with her diving gear.

In his findings David Glasgow, the Queensland state coroner, said that the exact circumstances may never be known but there was enough evidence of foul play to justify a murder charge against her husband.

“There are only two persons who know what in fact actually occurred,” Mr Glasgow said. “One is Tina, who cannot tell us, and the other is [Mr Watson].”

He indicted Mr Watson formally on a charge of killing his wife. The police said a warrant would be issued for his arrest and that prosecutors would prepare an application for his extradition from the US.

Mr Thomas, his wife, Cindy, and other family members watched as the coroner read out his findings via a live video link to Alabama. “We’re actually relieved to hear the coroner’s findings. It’s something that we have dealt with for quite some time and it validated our beliefs,” Mr Thomas said.
