Congrats to Brian VanGorder for his new DC job at Auburn. He knows defense inside and out.
Not good news for SEC O's.
VanGorder was the biggest football junkie I have ever been around. Studies hard,
demands excellence and teaches u how 2 b a man.
-
I guess I'd heard his name before, but knew nothing about him, but like him more and more.

Pollack or Van Gorder?

What's so funny? You're the one that didn't and still doesn't know who Brian Van Gorder was/is. He was just one of the best DCs in UGA's history. Mark and Mike Stoops wear Van Gorder pajamas.

Yeah, I didn't/don't really know shit about him, except that you've told me that we'll now hit, and tackle to the ground in practice, and what I've seen of his history. I'm happy with the hire.

Got to agree with Prowler. For a guy that claims so much football knowledge, failing to know BVG was a pretty glaring error.

JR is an offensive know it all. Not a defensive know it all. Sheesh.

I thought he was the head coach at Virginia Tech.
Can't all be rocket surgeons.

You don't think I'm serious do you?
What do (LB) Odell Thurman, (S) Thomas Davis, (S) Greg Blue, (DE) David Pollack, (S) Sean Jones, (DE) Ray Gant, (LB) Boss Bailey, (LB) Brandon Miller & (LB) Danny Verdun Wheeler have in common?
Nope...wrong answer. The correct answer is all of these guys were Coach VanGorder's players and they all would knock your dick in the dirt and make you drown in your own pool of blood gushing out of your face and ears....or I would've accepted they're all Sledgehammer type hitters that played for CBVG.
So, when I say we're going to hit and tackle to the ground on Defense, instead of thud tackling...I mean it. We'd better have the backups on Offense ready...because they gonna get hurt if they go half ass (it'll make them tougher as well). That's why I love the hire. I just wish Eltoro Freeman had one more year, because I think he would've flourished with CBVG teaching him.
Also, do you still think recruiting by the HC, right now, is more important than focusing on finding the prospect's Coordinators, after the HC publicly states that he isn't sure which direction we're going to go on Offense or Defense? If so, go read Deon Bush and his Father's statements after he was made aware that Auburn is bringing in CBVG. Also, while you're at it, go read Stefon Digg's comments after Florida landed Brent Pease for their OC. You'll notice some similar comments to mine in the Deon's Father's comments.

I was going to go with Uga, but that works, too.

I don't give a shit if you're serious or not. I don't care how many OCs and DCs you can name, it means jack shit. I don't care if you think that because he's produced some good, hard hitting players, that that means we'll be hitting hard in practice and injuring our own players, it matters not what you conjure up in you head. It's a good hire IMHO, not that my opinion matters, because he IS the new DC.
And no, recruiting is always first. I don't know how many times I have to tell you that.

I happen to agree with you solely on the reasoning that most coaches can't make Chocolate Cake out of Shit Pie. Yes BVG is a slam dunk hire and has done great everywhere he's had the players, but even the best coach can't perform without the proper players. You cannot let up on recruiting. Ever. I think Chizik has been able to manage both.
-
So outside of da Prowler I think we are all in agreement Jimmy's and Joe's much more important than Coach Jimmy and Coach Joe.

Bad players can make a good coach look bad. Good players can make a bad coach look good.

Uncle Lou said it the other night: "You can lose with talent, but you can't win without it". So, you have to have talent, and it has to be coached.
I listened to the presser...we got some coach speak speaking mofos on dat staff! And, as I've said, his history of defenses is solid, and I like the hire.
Now, if' you'll excuse me, I have to get back to memorizing the names of all the coordinators in football so I can get up to speed with prowlies "football knowledge."

Just listened to Pollack on the round table. Let me preface by saying that yes he did have a huge homer slant for Van Gorder because he played for him ( may have even been butt buddies by the way he spoke of him).
Now everything he said I loved. When asked about schemes he responded that VG adjusts to not only the talent he has playing for him but also the offense he is playing, from limp to semi.
Said in film room he will call you out and jump your ass. Straight up tell you that you suck. Semi to a little hard.
Not scared to play man coverage, and knows hows to coach kids and mold them into men. Full on wood.
When asked if he could turn AU's defense into a top 25 D within 2 years, Pollack stated that he can have them there next year. Blew my load.
Yeah I realize it was David Pollack, but he seems to know his x's and o's. I loved everything he had to say about VG.
Yes it takes athletes to make a great team but it also takes coaching to get great athletes to live up to their potential. Just like good parents raise good children and shitty ones raise people like RWS and Token.

I honestly believe we have enough for him to work with to get us there too. No superstars, but enough to work with.

And no, recruiting is always first. I don't know how many times I have to tell you that.
Whenever you have a recruits parents stating that the lack of a Coordinator produced somewhat of an uncertainty in the recruit's feelings towards the University....that should tell you that the hiring of the Coordinator is more important than any recruits. That coming from me should say something, since I've been a recruiting junky for going on 20 years now. I know what fucking matters and what doesn't....having uncertainty in the direction of your Offense and of your Defense is a a glaring negative on the recruiting trail. It also isn't good when the assistant coaches (the ones still on the road recruiting) can't tell the recruits which direction the team is going.
Also, when you have recruits that are on the top of your Big Board, state that they can't wait to talk to a different University due to the fact that they just hired a new Coordinator and he likes what he brings to the table, should tell you that hiring a Coordinator is more important than recruiting, especially when the direction of the program is up in the air (again, at this time).
What's the biggest negative recruiting tool a recruiter can use on the recruiting trail, side from NCAA Doom & Gloom bullshit? It's the uncertainty of the direction of the Rival's program.
The hiring of a "named" Coordinator is a Very Big boost in recruiting...The headlines become a recruiter.
As for injuring our own offensive players (defensive players too), it will happen....because the defense will be a lot more physical. (write that down and come back to it later). It's common knowledge, if one side is more physical than the other...there will be injuries. Our Defense and our Offense, last year were SOFT.
I really don't give a shit what you think you know, don't tell me I'm wrong...when I know I'm right.
-
If lovin' you is wrong, I don't wanna' be right.
-
I think.....you know what...fuck it not worth it.
It's like arguing amongst two rocks.

Blah, blah, blah. You don't quit recruiting until you hire somebody, you recruit, and interview. Seriously both can be done.

And I refer you to duck season 2007-08.
Yeah that's not the same thing here. First off, he took other coaches with him to go Duck Hunting. Secondly, his name would conveniantly be mentioned for nearly every open HCing position during this time (he's not around to discuss the rumors, causing the President and AD, along with TPTB to come up with more money to keep him) and the negative recruiting tool would be used by every Coach (the uncertainty of the program). Third, CTT wasn't doing anything for the betterment (word?) of the program. Fourth, he along with other coaches (who could've been utilizing the time to contact recruits) were out of reach in the woods. Remember the Arkansas News Station reporting that CTT was going to be announced as the new HC and CTT couldn't be reached for comment until a day or two later? Those few days almost destroyed our recruiting class.
