Title: Ohio State Sanctions Issued Today
Post by: AUChizad on December 20, 2011, 02:44:19 PM
Loss of 9 scholarships and a 2012 bowl ban.

In retrospect, they probably should have sat out of last year's Sugar Bowl.

I thought they got off pretty good considering the lying and lack of control they showed..aka trying to cover it up.

Loss of 9 scholarship thing is going to hurt Urban Meyer.  He might miss out on the next Jesus Tebow.

You know what?  I have no love for THE Ohio State University...but that's about right.  I always thought this whole thing was way overblown.  Talking heads were discussing this like it was the worst violations of all time.  It was tatoos.  Frick me, how awful.  Yes, Corch Sweater Vest lied.  Probably did what 100 other coaches do and have always done.  Damn, my star players screwed up.  Doubt anyone will find out about something trivial like tats.  Keep it down home, cuz.

The Vest is out of a job, loss of schollies and bowl money.  I'd say that's a pretty good pop.  And Chad, I couldn't agree more.  Just sit the players and you're still the coach and the sanctions are 1/4 or 37% of what they got.

Somebody on another site suggested that they put Tressel under a show cause as well.  To me he was the biggest problem.  The violations themselves were minor.  It was the coverup.  And I think the punishment reflects that, along with firing Tressel, and putting him under a show cause...the right ones suffer as they should.

Yeah if I'm Tressel I tell the National Communist Against Athletes to take flying fuck at a rolling doughnut.

Me thinks he pretty much already did, and thus, the situation he currently finds himself in.

Look I don't agree with him and he had a big part in this whole thing but at the end of the day the NCAA has no power over him to make him do anything.

In their organization they do.

What organization and what power?  They gonna tell the elderly multi-millionaire that he isn't ever allowed to be on a college staff again.  Oh the travesty.

Make it about money, and you're right, but the guy wants to coach and compete.  They've pretty well effectively ended his career.  It's all they have the power to do, and it's pretty significant.

I don't understand how a show cause is that big of a deal in this situation.  This country is all about second chances, especially when it comes to sports.  Tressell screwed up.  He didn't want what I truly believe was some very minor infractions in the grand scheme of things, to temporarily throw the train off the tracks. He had one hell of a thing going at OSU.  While the SEC made him their personal bitch on a couple of occasions, he had that program at a top 5 level year in and year out.  All of a sudden, he's headed to the Sugar Bowl for a prime time match up with another SEC team and he realizes he's about to have to suspend his QB and some of his best players.  Wait, it's just tats...who's gonna' find out?

He blew it.  He tried to sweep it under the rug and he paid for it with his career.  I gay-ron-damn-tee you that 3/4 or 78% of the coaches in this country would have....or have done...the same thing.  If he wants to coach again, I think he and the potential new team, go in with his hat in hand and admits his screw up.  No reason not to let the guy get back into it.

And therein lies the problem.  Willing to lie to cover up something that, in the big scheme, could have been spun to a minor violation costing them little or nothing.  He could have reported it, made the players pay for the tats, and nobody would have lost shit.  Makes you wonder what else he covered up.

Didn't say I agreed with it. But they do have the one power to screw him from coaching under the NCAA ever again.

I heard that his show cause was only for five years.  After that he is fair game again in the coaching world.

He'll be all but forgotten in FBS football in 5 years.

He'll end up doing the Howard Schnellenberger thing and bounce around on some less prestigious schools to finish out his career.

That or go back to FCS where he came from.  Hell, he might could even get on to hire him now, and get the NCAA to approve it if it was at a place where football isn't king.  I think he probably is unhirable at all for 2 years.  After that, he might could actually "show cause," but not at a big time job.
