Title: Heisman Favorites
Post by: Snaggletiger on November 29, 2011, 11:10:28 AM
Just took a look at some of the stats on guys who are probably the front runners for the most popular player of the year award.  The one that hasn't really gotten much hype but really jumped out at me was Matt Barkely of USC.  I didn't look at any other RB's because it seems Richardson has been the most hyped as being more gooder than the rest.

Matt Barkely

308-446  3,528  69.1%  39 TD's 7 INT's 161.2

Robert Griffin

252-347  3,678  72.6%  34 TD's  5 INT's  191.1

Andrew Luck

261-373  3,170  70%  35 TD's  9 INT's  167

Trent Richardson

263 Carries for 1,583 yds  20 TD's

Anyone obvious I'm missing?  Sleepers?

Taking off the orange glasses.

I don't like what the Heisman has become.  It used to symbolize the best player in College Football, now it just seems to be a popularity contest. Not only that but it seems that you can only be eligible if your team is awesome as well.  I always looked at it as how would these teams had fared if you took that player away.

IMO
1. Robert Griffin III  (very close win over Luck)
2. Andrew Luck
3. Rent "Gooder" Richardson
4. Matt Barkley

I would vote for Griffin.  He put up those numbers and had a respectable win loss record at Baylor.  It would be equivalent to somebody putting up the same numbers at Vanderbilt.

Monte.

Ball.

All he does is gash defenses for yards and more importantly, chase Barry's touchdown record.

It really Should be between RGIII and Mont Ball. The rest are a product of their team. I believe Lacey would have the same stats.

Exactly.

Well, not exactly.  I do think Trent Richardson is a special running back that's gooder than others.

But RGIII plays for Baylor and he's been Cam Newton-esque.

Montee Ball has been insane and blows out Trent Richardson.

More yards.  Less carries.  34 total touchdowns.  THIRTY FOUR.

I don't think Luck is a product of his team.  He has had very little to work with this year (injuries).  That is why I would put it in a close race between him and Griffin.

Agree 100%. RG3 is the best player in the country. PERIOD. But he won't win it.

RG3
Monte Ball
Andrew Luck (take Luck away from Stanford, they're looking at not going to a bowl)
Rent Richardson
Matt Barkley
Sammie Watkins
Neiko Thorpe (Thorpe, because he has made every QB & RB that he's played against look gooder)

Agree, and hate they've bastardized the award to be an "MVP on a BCS Title Contender" award.

So, Bumpity Bump Bump...

So, who would you go with at this point?  Weskansan is 11-2 and won the Big 19.  They have a fairly decent Heisman candidate who is...well...not a candidate.  Why is that?

Montee Ball

275 Carries  1,759 Yds  32 TD's

Trent Richardson

263 Carries for 1,583 yds  20 TD's

THIRTY TWO touchdowns????  Are kidding me?  He won't even sniff of an invite to NY.  Thoughts?

He has more than that if you count his receiving yards and touchdowns.

Did he break Barry's record?  I think he had four touchdowns in the Big 10 championship game.

I think the most dynamic player is the Honey Badger, but despite the late push I don't think he will get it.  I think RGIII might have sewn it up on Saturday, I think Rent not playing hurt his chances.

RGIII is the most deserving seeing as how he didn't get suspended for drug use, and Baylor had a shot at a BCS birth.

He did not he is one shy at 38..I am sure he will break it or tie it in the bowl game.

A couple of things of note regarding the record.

Barry only played in 11 games (12 but bowl game stats didn't count then.) He had 373 carries for 2850 yds.  He avg 7.8 ypc and had 37 Td's  19 receptions for 109yds and 2 tds.

Montee might have had more games to do it but he certainly had a lot less carries.

If there was any justice, this would be a three-man race between RGIII, Ball and Honey Badger.

Fuck Luck like a greasy duck.

Signature wins/plays?  All I hear is drooling over his mechanics and whatnot....that's not really what this award is supposed to be.  Giving it to him this year would be a "lifetime achievement" nod.  Fuck that.

Settle down Beavis, I didn't say he should win, I just said he should round out the 4 invited.

The kids a good player, fuck he turned Stanford into a great team.

Again, it's like you're all up in my brain.  Luck will get an invite but no way he deserves the trophy with the football player on it.  Is Weskansan just not pimping Ball?  I just don't hear him in the discussions very much.  Amazing with those stats and playing in a big time program that's having a great season.  It's as if ESPN has an agenda of sorts......wait......what am I saying? They only report the news.

RGIII so far has 38 1st place votes compared to Luck's 5 and Trent's 7.

They had the ESPN Heismanologist on last night, who polls all the voters at ESPN, and they all had RG3 winning it.

If not for that one suspended game, Honey Badger might be running away with it right now. He is probably the most talented individual in CF. RG III has been a force. He is no Cam, But I would have loved to had him this year. He does things like Cam did when you just don't think it could happen. Kids got an arm and if you give him a little extra time, he sees ALL of the field. And can make the throw.

TR, meh, put him on Baylor and he gets stuffed...a lot.

Luck, good numbers elsewhere but not great.

The Wisc AD isnt pimping Ball. Just like the USC AD didn't pimp Barkley until it was too late.

I don't think so. I mean seriously, the guy is on a Cam level when affecting the output of a game. Its like he has momentum on his fingertips.

It's gonna end up like this.

1. RG3
2. Luck
3. Rent
4. Honey Badger
5. Ball

Saw college football live this morning. I can't watch these dipshits anymore without goin all :ebm:

Not Bama or Rent Richardson related. Just similar biased bullshit. Showed RG3 & Luck's stats side-by-side. RG3 clearly killed Luck in every category. He then went on about how smart Luck is, and that he'd already graduated (not mentioning that this should be an advantage for him to perform better), and that there's no doubt he will be a better pro than RG3. Did these fucksticks not learn their lesson by saying this exact same ignorant shit about Cam Newton? And Tim Tebow for that matter? At what point are they going to say "Yeah, I guess these badass college QBs may end up not totally shitting the bed in the NFL"

This season, especially its final results, have just made me bitter and spiteful to the whole system. I am convinced that 2/3 of this board, or roughly 75% (:poke:) would be more football-intelligent than these assclowns that get paid millions and have their word transformed to the Gospel. I swear they are wrong 10x more than they are right. Unless it's a self-fulfilling prophecy, like the Bama-LSU game was between the two greatest teams of all time, and even after it concludes there should be a rematch, because "we all know" they're the best teams out there. They continue to hype those two teams to death, influence the votes, and even contribute the votes, and voilĂ . LSU-Bama National Championship game, even when everyone with two functioning brain cells to rub together knows this is stupid.

Occupy Herbstreit.
