Title: H.S. Playoffs
Post by: Snaggletiger on November 18, 2011, 03:32:52 PM
Any interest in the remaining teams?

6A

McGill Toolen @ Central Phenix City
Prattville @ Fairhope
Mountain Brook @ Oxford
Hoover @ Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa

5A

Spanish Fort @ Vigor
Hueytown @ St. Paul's
Hartselle @ Center Point
Muscle Shoals @ Briarwood

4A

Dadeville @ UMS Wright
Jackson @ Bibb County
Anniston @ Fayette County
Deshler @ Oneonta

3A

Handley @ Washington County
Leeds @ Clay County
Piedmont @ Rogers
Lauderdale County @ Madison Academy

2A

Elba @ Flomaton
American Christian @ Leroy
Tanner @ Woodland
Lineville @ Fultondale

1A

Pickens County @ Sweetwater (Weskies favorite team)
Maplesville @ Linden
Collinsville @ Ragland
Marion County @ Donoho

With the exception of Elba, which is ranked #1 in 2A and in our area, everyone from this neck of the woods got bitch slapped early on.  Interesting that not one Montgomery team is left.  GH2001 is probably paying attention to Central.  Plus, I see Dadeville is 12-0 in 4A and has that 6'7" DE/TE Auburn commit...forget his name, Hutchison???

Anyhows...anyone going to one of these games?

Make sure Piedmont gets plenty of penalties.

1A - None
2A - Tanner
3A - Rogers/Lauderdale County
4A - Deshler
5A- Hartselle/Muscle Shoals

I have not interest in the rest of them other than Hueytown and that is b/c I want to see how bad ass Winston shows out this week.

McGill Toolen @ Central Phenix City

Will be at this one as CHS is my alma tomater. Went by that area at lunch and things are already abuzz. McGill notified CHS and the City of Phenix City that they are bringing 6 charter buses for their fans in addition to the team and band buses. Parking will be an issue if that holds true.  There hasn't been this much buzz around here for a playoff game since 1993 when CHS beat Enterprise in the Semis in route to the 6A State Title.

Look out for Leeds in 3A. Saw them down here a couple of weeks ago and they have a couple of hard ass running backs.  In 6A, it looks like the same old suspects you see every year.  Good luck with McGill there GH.

If CHS wins, the reward is most likely Prattville. Oh boy......

Pickens 11-1 vs. Sweetwater420 9-3

Sweetwater doesn't normally drop 3 games.  Down year or did they play 3 6A teams.  Who did Pickens lose to?

Quote
Maplesville 47 Pickens County 26
If the Pickens County Tornadoes had one wish, it would be to replay the second quarter of their pivotal region matchup on the road Friday night against the Maplesville Red Devils.  The second quarter meltdown helped Maplesville seize a 47-26 win and gain a stranglehold on the top spot in 1A Region 4.

The Tornadoes led 19-14 after the first quarter but completely imploded in the second. Four uncharacteristic turnovers led to 26 unanswered points and an insurmountable obstacle.  Pickens County was also penalized for 125 yards in the first half, most coming in the second quarter.

By the time the second quarter breakdown was complete, Maplesville turned the five-point deficit into a 21-point lead.  The Devils held on to hand the Tornadoes their first loss of the season.

It went like this:

> Touchdown
> Onsides kick recovery, touchdown
> Fumbled kickoff recovered by M'ville. 45 yards of penalties on PC on drive. Touchdown
> Fumbled punt, touchdown on last play of the half.

Kind of like how LSU got over on Oregon.  Or LSU on us.  Just got away.   Maplesville still probably a better team, but I would have said Brantley was better too and PC beat them last week at Brantley.  They have a habit of booting a good team in the playoffs but then falling short of the title game.

Beat Hazlewood when they had been on some 60-year string of titles, beat Leroy in 2009 when they had a 17-game playoff win streak.  Never played in the Super Six, though.    Semi finals three or maybe four times I think.  Never got there.

My uncle's brother Stacey Luker is head coach at Sweetwater, so I'll follow that a little bit.

Re: the 3 losses thing, he's had problems in prior years with his player not used to playing an entire game because they steamroll their normal competition and running out of steam in the playoffs so he's been scheduling higher level teams as much as he can.

I think it was Coffeeville (another 1A team) they played this year that was the most embarrassing beat down.  They were up by some obscene amount at the end of the half so their plan for the second half was to run one play and then punt on offense.  They scored 4 more touchdowns in the 2nd half.

I really wasn't expecting them to be up 41 to 0 in the 3rd quarter. McGill looked horrid. Pratville will be tough.  Thinking about driving up Friday.
