Henry Perkins, 21, arrived in New York by train, carrying only a computer, toothbrush, cell phone, some books and a tarp.

University of Alabama junior Henry Perkins ditched his college campus for Occupy Wall Street movement at Zuccotti Park, where he’s earning college credits as an immersive research project.

Henry Perkins is giving Occupy Wall Street the old college try.

The 21-year-old University of Alabama junior has been earning college credits while living in the open-air, crime-riddled frat house of Zuccotti Park.

“I asked my professors and they said to go for it,” Perkins told the Daily News. “They’re living vicariously through me.”

“I learned a lot here,” added Perkins, who arrived in New York by train carrying only a computer, toothbrush, cell phone, some books and a tarp. “I realized that I never want to be in any system, and you can make it work.”

Since joining the protest against corporate excess three weeks ago, Perkins said he’s become the big man on Alabama’s campus while camping out 900 miles away.

He Skypes into class twice a week, listening to lectures and giving students colorful updates from the epicenter of the global movement. And he regularly checks in with his professors.

“I’m like a celebrity back home,” Perkins said.

Even his parents support his odd curriculum. Perkins’ proud mom said she has no problem with her son’s $8,600 in-state tuition being devoted to his immersive research project on Occupy Wall Street.

“I’m sure he’ll learn more in two weeks in New York than in two years in college,” said Danielle Juzan, of Mobile, Ala., who acknowledged that she’s still “worried sick” about her son.

“What impressed us the most was the fact that he was able to negotiate this with his professors.”

The negotiation wasn’t especially trying. Perkins is taking courses in an interdisciplinary program at Alabama that allows students to design their own majors.

One of the requirements is an independent learning project, in which students must commit at least 20 hours to a venture of their choice and keep a detailed time log of their experience. They also must submit a final report, said Catherine Roach, one of Perkins’ professors.

“Henry had a burning desire to go up and join the protest,” Roach said. “For the independent learning project, I told him he could research and write about the Occupy Wall Street movement” and how it fits into “the larger context of civil disobedience within American History.”

This is so going to impress the Wal-Mart manager when he applies for that greeter position.

I remember guys like him in college.  Thought they knew or could know everything about the world based on their hiking trips and the music they listened to.

You're assuming that he is going to actually go out and try to find a job. Those are supposed to be handed out at commencement. Get it straight.

So, this kid got to NY by train, right? Has a computer? His cell phone is probably an iPhone or something similar.........HOLY SHIT, HE'S SUPPORTING THOSE 1% FAT CATS! Shit like that is what I find so ironic about these morons. They're complaining about the 1%, but they more than likely line the pockets of those 1% every day. Oh, and they sure as fuck aren't going to give up those iPhones.

He'll be a college professor or a bum.  One way or another, we will be supporting this fucktard with our tax dollars for the rest of his pathetic, useless life.

Anyone see South Park this week?

Good stuff, as usual. South Park elementary ranked so low on the The Presidential Fitness Test because one student (Cartman) brought down the otherwise normal average to worst in the country, that the students had to forgo free recess for a more rigorous Physical Education class. The 99% (wink) of students protested that the system was unfair to the 99% for the sake of the 1% (Cartman) that failed. Cartman gets pissed that everyone is blaming him just because "they voted for Obama" (who is in charge of the Presidential Fitness Test), "and everything sucks now, but this day in age you can't blame a black person for anything". The 99% Occupy Red Robin, where they themselves pig out on fatty greasey foods (i.e. the point you were making here about iPhones, trains, etc.). Michael Moore shows up to support them, and of course is morbidly, disgustingly obese (i.e. hypocritically part of the 1%). Bravo.

I saw it, and thought it was spot on as well.

This whole Occupy thing just really, really pisses me off. If what THS posted in another thread about their message is true, I can somewhat agree with what they're saying. I agree the the government is corrupt. I agree deals are worked by certain people so they can get rich off of the taxpayer's dime. The problem is, that message got lost in the translation to the hippies out on the street protesting. Now it has turned in to "Comcast has a really really nice headquarters, and it just doesn't belong here. Something this nice shouldn't be anywhere near a place where neighborhoods are falling apart".

These cock goblins out on the street right now are simply following a fad. They don't even understand what they are protesting.

There is a list out there on the net of 'official supporters' of OWS. Amazing....

Just a few:
George Soros
Louis Farakhan
David Duke
The New Black Panthers
Communist Party of America
National Socialist Party
All Labor Unions
Hezbollah
Hugo Chavez
9/11 Truthers

David Duke

To be fair, his run off with Edwin Edwards in 1991 produced some of the best political bumper stickers ever.

"Vote for the lizard, not the wizard."

I think the episode touched on that nicely too. The students had a valid point that the system was unfair. Then the hippie with the bongos and the dancing guy in a V for Vendetta mask shows up, then eventually Michael Moore. Then the 5th grade kids start going way out of line by burning down Carman's house, etc. Then the "class" warfare breaks out.
