Title: The Cult of Saban
Post by: AUChizad on November 07, 2011, 03:57:37 PM
Is it time to revisit this yet?

Saban is 3-4 vs top 5 teams with 3 losses at home when Bama was favored in all 3.

2-3 vs. LSU & Les Miles. 4-5 Vs. Auburn. 1-1 Vs. Chizik.

I mentioned games in which he's favored, but lest we forget games where he's the far away favorite, i.e. UAB, LAMonroe, & Utah.

In 14 Seasons, Saban has only finished the season in the Top 5 twice. Top 10 six times, including last year.

Saban has a 7-6 Bowl Record. Not terrible. Not amazing.

He is 29-21 against all ranked teams (58.0%). Again, not terrible, but hardly God-status. Chizik, for example, is 9-7 (56.3%) including his 5-19 tenure at Iowa State. He was the underdog in 14/16 of those games (all but Oregon and the SEC championship game last year). JUST at Auburn, Chizik is 9-4 against ranked opponents (69.3%). At Alabama, Saban is 17/6 (73.9%). They didn't play a single ranked opponent in his 7-6 year.

Just saw a discussion on ITAT that made for fun speculation:

Given the mess at PSU, with a total housecleaning surely coming up...Lil Nicky to PSU?

He can escape the crimson hoard, he can completely dictate the terms of his employment to a beaten and humbled athletic department, and attempt to win another BCSC at a third school.

All the while getting back to his roots in West Va.

For the record, I don't care if he stays at bama or not.  I hate his blatant cheating, but I think the REC will keep that up regardless of the person occupying the HC office.  They have to do all they can to keep up with a healthy Auburn.

It's like you're in my head...or read my post in the PSU thread.  Don't know which but I'd prefer to believe you read the post.

I seriously doubt Saban goes to Penn State.  It's one thing to take over a program that's in dire straits.  It's another take over one that's known for child rape.  That's some serious long term stink that's going to be connected with Penn State.

As for the cheating, I'm one that thinks Saban has too much of an ego to actually buy players.  I also think he's so full of himself, when he brings five star after five star, he thinks it's all him and not any outside help.  I also think Saban and Emmert are too buddy-buddy to ever get Saban caught in a recruiting scandal.

Which also makes me think that the NCAA still hates Bama and would annihilate whatever coach comes in after Saban just to destroy the rampant rogue boosters who keep buying suits, steak dinners, cars, laptops, and fishing trips.
