Something that is old news is posted.  The pile-on begins:  We landed on the moon!; Columbus discovers the new world!; The Germans bombed Pearl Harbor (nod to Animal House).

That last one just gets shortened to "Germans...".

It's not endemic to Tigerdroppings.

It's an internet saying for old news.  Some people (who knows where or when - I think it was Fark, actually) started saying "We landed on the moon!" to people posting old news.  Then someone said "Pearl Harbor was bombed!"  And then the classic Animal House "Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!"  Finally to just "Germans" which stuck indefinitely.

That's what I figured. The historically inaccurate one that is an indirect reference to a movie (The quote is an entirely different context, asking if it was over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor) is the one that sticks. "Moon" would be a more appropriate abbreviation.
