Alright, what's the spot you've got to hit when you go to the beach? Who has the coldest beer, shrimp po-boy and fries that'll make you slap your mama? Who shucks the coldest, saltiest oysters? Coolest sunsets on the beach? Music?
It must be a dive or a hole in the wall joint or just somewhere that's not a cookie-cutter franchise.
At Bay Point Marriott (Yeah, I know - Franchise) in Panama City, they've got a little bar/grill sitting way out on a pier in the Bay. Limes. Been going there for years and taking in a sunset with fried grouper fingers, fries, cold beers and always a guy with a guitar playing good tunes. All the while, the boats are coming in from the gulf.
Just outside of Seaside on 30-A, between Destin and P.C. there's a dump of a convenience store on the corner. Seagrove Market. If you walk through to the back, it opens up into a separate, little grill where they'll put a serious shrimp, oyster or grouper po-boy and fries on you. A couple of Landsharks...okay 3 Landsharks and it's good times. No scenery, just kick-ass, fried beach food and cold beer.
Anyone?

This discussion begins and ends with Sea and Suds.
Maybe Doc's.

At the far western end of Destin, just before the bridge to Okaloosa Island, down a little sidestreet named Calhoun (I believe), there is a little shack-like place on a pier called Dewey Destin's - owned and operated by Auburn alums.
-
The Ark in Riverside has the best fried canned oysters in North Alabama. The pictures of Bobby Allison, Red Farmer, Elvis, and George C Wallace that adorn the wall, along with 40 years worth of nicotine stains, make it the ultimate dive.
-
Not really a dive but if you must catch the sunset in Panama City Beach, you can do a lot worse than Schooners.

The boardwalk at Pensacola Beach is always a nice place to hang out, eat, drink, and shop. The bars and restaurants change from time to time, but they are always usually nice places. Though it is a chain, there is a Hooters on the boardwalk where it sits right on the bayside of the beach. Peg Leg Pete's is very good also.
When we go to Orange Beach, we usually drive over to Coconut Willie's in Gulf Shores. There is also a nice restaurant at one of the Wolf Bay marinas, but I can't remember the name of it. It is a two story restaurant.

Orange Beach, Gulf Shores and Perdido Key,Fl. all with several miles of each other make that area the best for food ,sunsets and beach fun. I live in Perdido so I'm kind of biased. Pensacola Beach is a bit touristy for me.

We go down to Pensacola NAS for the Blue Angels Homecoming every November and we used to stay inland at the Red Roof right off I-10. However, this past November, since Orange Beach is where we like to go during summer vacations, we decided to stay at one of the Phoenix condos instead and then drive into Pensacola NAS for the show. We liked doing that much better, so this year we are thinking about staying in Perdido Key and driving over to the show. Like you said, there is much better choices to eat in that area, you have the beach, and during that time of year, there is much less traffiic in the Perdido Key/Orange Beach area then there is in Pensacola during the Blue's homecoming weekend.

THere used to be a place in Panama City Beach called Allen's...it had the best food in PCB..period. Too bad the owner a few years ago decided to get greedy and burn the bitch down for insurance money...hope he enjpys prison. I guess I really didn't contribute anything to this conversation. Fuck you guys for getting to go to the beach.
-
Oh Yeah, and I forgot. Don't ever go to Landry's...you will have diahrea for years, and the bar guy does T-Pain Karaoke all night long.

Your exactly right Ranger 12.
When you guys come from OB. you do go through the back gate of NAS right? Off of Blue Angel parkway? If so that's where I live. About 2 miles from the back gate. The Blues fly right over the house every tuesday during practice. I can almost throw a rock and hit them they are so low. Bad ass shit.

It's been a few years since I've been there, but Shuck'ems in Panama City is tough to beat when it comes to raw oysters and cold beer. It's not a successful trip if someone doesn't hump the camel out front.
Another great place for oysters in PCB is Dusty's. It was destroyed during Ivan (I think) but it has since been rebuilt. Good times.

Too many of you fuckers spend time in panama city fucking beach.

The Point is a great dive, just over the Florida line in Innerarity(sp?). Where else can you get Wahoo and listen to Bluegrass music with 3 other people?
Also, gotta get me some Lillian's pizza every trip to Orange Beach. I also like Desoto's and Doc's for some good Mahi Mahi and Crab Claws.
Man, I can't wait for July 4th week...
-
Pants party?
Yea speaking of which.....Whit and I will be down for a long weekend over the fourth if you want to get together for dinner/drinks.
-
Of course. Where are you staying?

The Point, LOL that place isn't much but their food is really good. Lillians is about the best pizza anywhere around here. You've found about the best food you can get around here. Try going to the REEF, cool place with local musicians and good food lots of cold beer. It's about 1/2 mile from Lillians and The Point. In between them.

Hell yeah! I was gonna post it, but I couldn't remeber the name. I live six hours from Augusta, but if I go over there for work related adventures, I have to stop in there before I leave.

Why do you hate red clay beaches? You flatlanders and your fancy sand. Aristocrats!
Seriously, one of my favorite seafood dives is Singleton's Seafood Shack in Atlantic Beach, Fl. If you're ever down Jacksonville way, check it out.
-
Not so much a dive, but sitting out on the pier at Pineapple Willie's in PC and working a big basket of ribs just makes a man all moist.

I would live in Augusta strictly for Rhinehart's. The memories...
I'm allergic to seafood but I eat it anyway. I just don't give a fuck. The mark of a great seafood place is how fast their food can cause an allergic reaction. Rhinehart's is the only seafood place to date that forces me to down Benedryl in large quantities before the waitress can even bring the damn check out. No other place in North America can claim this honor.

(from the left coast) the pacific northwest is bound with tasty clams and oysters (maybe a tad tastier than the gulf or at least somewhat smaller). other local favorites include pacific halibut and chips as well as the best eating crab known to man called dungeness crab.
if ever on the oregon coast must stops include moe's ( a chain up and down the coast), the sea hag (depot bay) and the pelican brew pub (pacific city). the latter two are regular stops.
-
(from the left coast) ... the best eating crab known to man called dungeness crab.
Since this thread continues to expand... My shoe tastes better than that. Well admittedly, dungeness crab isn't that bad, but it isn't the "best eating" by any measure.
In my opinion, stone crab claws from Joe's Stone Crab in Miami or Joe's in Las Vegas in Ceasar's Forum Shops are the best eating. A close second, if not an outright tie, are the king crab legs at the Salt Rock Grill in Indian Rocks Beach in St. Pete. They cut 'em down the center with a saw blade and grill them over an oak wood fire. You don't even have to get your hands dirty.
Of course, I think I've expanded the concept of a "dive".

First post since catching up that gave me chills and made me laugh simultaneously. It would never stop smiling.

I believe the marquee above the door read "Home of...Warm Beer, Lousy Food, and Ugly Waitresses."
