Title: Just Because I heard It...
Post by: Townhallsavoy on September 08, 2011, 04:37:35 PM
Ole F'Baum had ole Shareitagain on the show when I was driving home, and I had to point out a few inaccurate claims made by Danny Boy.

1.  Tuberville did not leave Chizik a stocked cupboard.  Sure there were a few upperclassmen to build a good team last year, but not only did Tuberville not recruit the talent that created the championship team last year, he demoralized the guys he did recruit.  Numerous articles have been released since 2008 detailing how many players wanted to quit football.  Ziemba is a noted leader from the 2010 team that stated he was done with Auburn football and was only playing because he knew he had a shot at the NFL.

2.  Claiming that Chizik is a great coach but would be terrible to not win 9 of 12 games when he's an underdog in 8 of 12 games is as fallacious as fallacious gets.

3.  Stallings might have played nothing but freshmen and sophomores his first two years at Alabama, but Chizik didn't have to.  He recognized the talent he had, re-motivated them to win, and plugged in youthful talent to fill the depth chart.  Those decisions made by Chizik earned him a national championship in his second year and not his third like Stallings.

4.  I'm not really sure how bad Alabama was when Stallings took over, but I know they sure as hell wasn't on Vanderbilt's level when Saban took over.  To say that Saban had to rebuild the program with the "dregs of society" is flat out wrong.  Andre Smith, Glenn Coffee, John Parker Wilson, Rashad Johnson, Mike Johnson, Antoine Caldwell, Brandon Deaderick, Javier Arenas - all Shula's recruits.

5.  How in the hell can you claim that LSU is the better football team this year but say that Alabama will have the better season?  I didn't hear schedule mentioned.  I did  hear quarterback play mentioned.  That Alabama was loaded but had quarterback issues.  And LSU doesn't?

Screw that man hard.

Javier Arenas and Andre Smith would have to be the pick of the litter that you listed. Shula should get some credit for Rolando McClain as well. Other than that, we're talking only slightly above average. Slightly. Don't get me wrong, Saban had some talent when he came to Alabama. He wasn't 15 guys under 85 either. I agree that he didn't have to rebuild with the "dregs of society", but he didn't have a team of first rounders either.

Rashad Johnson was a walk on running back and Javy Arenas was a special teams player when Saban arrived.  Many a jokes were made at Bama's expense when Javy signed.  No way can any reasonable person prop Shula up with good recruiting for those two guys.  The only one of any importance was Andre Smith.  The rest were below average - average players who were coached up by Saban.

Saban took a shitty team, maybe not Vanderbilt shitty, but shitty none the less.

Token and RWS - You missed the point.

Danny Sheridan said that Alabama was Vanderbilt.

Danny Sheridan said that Alabama was Vanderbilt.

To his credit, that statement is more believable than the bag man ordeal.  Shula did suck balls.

If Shula got Tbone he would probably still be there.

You think?

I think Tebow was a bit overrated.

Don't get me wrong.  Great player.  Big heart.  Blessed by surrounding talent.

I get tired of the Tebow love fest, but credit where credit is due; all that talent didn't do jack squat after he left.

Maybe he was being a little dramatic, but Jesus it sucked being an Alabama fan then. Alabama was one of the punching bags of the SEC, right there with Vanderbilt. Not quite Vandy, but you probably could have mentioned the two in the same conversation.

Okay, so...funny story...

I saw where people kept giving Vandy crap.  I figured I'd post an inspiring Vanderbilt image in humor, so I resorted to teh Googlez.

I typed in "Go Dores."  Hit enter.

I scrolled along, perusing through gay t-shirts, signed helmets, somebody's dog (Google's not perfect), and...this:

First, I have to take a double take.  And then when I do, I'm still wondering what the fuck inspired this and why.  So I view the site on which this picture is hosted:

Holy.  Shit.  That music is the bomb diggity.

Vanderbilt never had a Top 15 signing class...uat's average '04-'07 13th ranked signing class.

No, it's not.  He thinks Auburn will be better than most fans do.  The betting line is set so that the bookies can get even money on each side of the line.  It matters not that Auburn may be better than the pundits think, the moron betting public thinks Auburn will suck this year.  Thus, Auburn will be a dog in many games because the fucking morons that bet their rent money think they should be, not because they are inferior.

Danny Sheraton still sucks donkey balls, but he's correct there, at least in so far as I believe Auburn will be better than most think.
