Title: Dorial Green-Beckham
Post by: Townhallsavoy on August 27, 2011, 11:59:21 PM
Just got home and saw that Beckham has 17 catches for 275 yards and 3 touchdowns prior to the start of the 4th quarter.

I can pony up $2000.  Think we can hit $200,000 before signing day?

DGB is a fuckin' badass.  He's one of those prospects that could jump to the NFL straight outta HS.  There are a few players that could make that jump the last 10 years or so and DGB is one of them.

So, you're saying they are gonna tie him up the weekend before signing day too?

They're just going to threaten his parents.

He has foster parents.  His foster dad is his high school coach, who attended the University of Alabama.  He was hand picked to be a Tide superstar.

Barbee needs a signature player to fill the house and and Troop is his biggest fan.
Arky making a play too.
No vacancy in Tuscaloosa.

What part of this thread made you think of basketball?
The part that isn't mentioned.
The part that might make the difference.
The part that makes this offer better than the other guys.

The story here is that DGB wants to be near his brother and close to home in the Ozarks. That's what we are told. That's what we know.

Everybody wants this guy including Arky. Let's assume they have the edge in the DGB sweepstakes.

And then there's a habadasher in Tuscalooser that wants to parade him around in two-for-one suits. And I must confess, I don't know how you can compete with that. We're talking value here.

SO...aside of Buzz's avatar, which does conjure up some stray thoughts, I think it wise to throw something different into the game, upping the ante so to speak.  You have to stand out. And when I say stand out, I mean beyond your own perception of what Auburn is to YOU, because it's your school, you love it, it has a lot to offer blah, blah, blah.

I could post a You Tube video here of a two-sport kid that can rip a rim off a backboard when he's not snagging nineteen passes. So maybe we can agree that this isn't just any ol' ballplayer looking for folksy hamlet outside of the Ozarks.

He isn't a quarterback, a position that is more demanding than others.
A go-to receiver might catch 6-8 balls per game ordinarilly. And Malzahn contours an offense according to one's strengths.

Auburn basketball needs some attention, a signature athlete. Auburn football desires a one of a kind wide receiver. So what will be the catalyst, the offer that turns his head in the decision process with his Dad? I'm only suggesting that the answer might be hardwood.

* And the offer alone (nuanced) is a plus even if his intention is to only play one sport...I think they call it options.

Yes sir, I chose Auburn for the family atmosphere and they gave me the option to play both sports.

Quote
Springfield, Mo., native Dorial Green-Beckham broke the national career receiving record on Friday night, and is the top receiver on ESPN's recruiting rankings.

The man they call DGB has been quiet about his process, but told ESPN's Brandon Parker that he's narrowed his selections.

Home state Missouri is out of the running for now, but two Big 12 schools made the cut:

"Arkansas and Oklahoma are the two schools that are high up in the running. I definitely plan on visiting those two," said Green-Beckham, who is ranked No. 3 overall in the ESPNU 150. "But I’m still open to considering other schools, too."

"Texas and Auburn are also possibilities, but me and my dad have to sit down and talk about those schools. We’ve talked about the negatives and positives and stuff like that, but we’ve still got time to figure out if I want to take visits there as well."

Beckham said he got a call from Texas coach Mack Brown on Friday to congratulate him for breaking the record.

See more Insider here.

DGB will be fun to watch wherever he ends up, but it's pretty easy to see him being the next in a long line of great receivers in the Big 12.

So what does that put us, at about 20% with him along with Texas? Ark & Oklahoma at about 30% each?

Has this dude visited?

Man, if we got DGB, I'd have a BLT at TGIFridays.  Then I'd lol at all the other SEC teams.

If he goes to Arkansas, I will be pissed. That fucker will be a bad ass. I do not want to play him...ever.

I would imagine he is going to Oklahoma. Although Arkansas would be a good choice as well. I would hate to see his potential in Petrino's offense. That would be scary good...

I agree but looking at the QB situations now at both schools as a recruit.....Landry Jones or Tyler Wilson? Sam Bradford or Ryan Mallett? He might shine more at OU actually. Look at Broyles. Although Jarius Wright and his 3.94  Forty are nice to have as well.

Are you kidding me?  Of course White Cam has the "it" factor.

Hell, when he throws ducks all day, he gets four touchdowns.

Yes, he's made an unofficial visit with his family to AU already.  Has said he will more than likely take an official to the Iron Bowl.

I'd agree our chances are actually kind of low with DGB, but with WR, and 5* Diggs being a very nice pick up instead anyway.
