Title: Kwerstion For Teh Gurus
Post by: Snaggletiger on August 03, 2011, 11:49:28 AM
Pulled up Jameis Winston on Rivals and of course, the list of schools recruiting him is like my johnson, long and distinguished.  Isn't he announcing this week?  Anyway, I saw two schools, Jawja and UAB, that are recruiting him but no offer.  First, why would you recruit an elite athlete but not offer?  Second, how many kids do schools actually offer?  I have no idea but it seems like Auburn..Bama..LSU etc. have hundreds of offers out there.  I understand you have to hit way more kids than you have room for but what if you all of a sudden get 35 decisions (acceptance) some from guys you wanted and others you may be iffy on?

I guess I'm thinking in legal terms with regard to contracts and wondering if a school could get in a bind.  Offer and acceptance forms a contract in most cases.  Has anyone seen an actual offer letter (Assuming that's how they do it) and the wording?  Enquiring minds want to know.

This is what I gather from reading about Auburn recruiting:

Auburn lists what they need in each class. This year, it is as follows.
QB-1
RB-2
WR-3 or 4
Athlete-0 or 1
TE-2
OL-4 or 5
DT-2 or 3
DE-1 or 2
LB-2 or 3
CB-2
Safety-0 or 1

They then rate each of the players they are recruiting for each specific position. Like at QB, Pike was #1. They had offered several QB's, such as Winston, but when Pike committed, none of them now have a commit-able offer to play at Auburn.

So yes, Auburn may have 8 DT offers out there, but there is...I assume...an order in which they will take them. They want there top 3. If 1, 2 and 3 won't commit right away, they may accept 4 and 5 and then hope for one of their top 3 to commit. They may except #4, and not take 5 or 6 because they have a real good feel about 2 of the top 3.

It seems like a chess match. But these coaches have been pretty dame good at it.

Other guys that follow can correct me or fill in any gaps. I got to go to work...

So, is this kid really a stud baseball player?  If so, he can't go wrong at FSU either way.

Yup...looks like Lord belittle Lost out on another player, that's the second QB he has whiffed on.  The first one committed to play football at the National Powerhouse Indiana Hoosiers.

By the time Winston turns 21 or 22, he will be playing CF or RF in the major leagues. He will have to suffer with a half mil in bonus and a similar yearly salary.

This is what all fear...the training ground.
