Phillip Marshall speaking up again:
It’s time for someone at the NCAA to say something. This is getting out of hand.
I know, I know. NCAA officials don’t talk about ongoing or potential investigations. I’m not saying they should. But what they need to do is say something to protect themselves.
Danny Sheridan, who made his name by publishing odds but says he’s not an oddsmaker, went on two radio shows Thursday to insist that he knew what he was talking about when he said a “bagman†had been identified in the Cam Newton saga. He was clearly stung by the overwhelmingly negative reaction of national sports writers and others to his first salvo.
Last Wednesday, on the first day of SEC Media Days, Sheridan said the offender had been identified but that nothing would come of it unless he came forward. He said it came from an NCAA source of 25 years. A day later he said it was a source who had a source in the NCAA. He said Thursday he would have a name within two weeks. He offered to bet anyone who didn’t believe him and give the money to charity.
Whether Sheridan now claims an actual source within the NCAA or still is relying on his source who has a source, I don’t know.
Does the NCAA enforcement division, which prides itself on not talking out of school, really have a mole who is passing sensitive information to Sheridan either directly or through an intermediary? I doubt it. But, if Sheridan is full of it, someone at the NCAA needs to say so.
Believe me, they know in Indianapolis what Sheridan has said.
As Tony Barnhart, probably the most respected college football reporter in the country said last week, if Sheridan has a source within the NCAA that's a bigger story than Cam Newton ever was.
I don’t know to whom Sheridan talks. I don’t know if this whole thing is fabricated or if he really believes he’s onto the scoop of the decade. I don’t know what the NCAA has or doesn’t have.
Here’s what I do know:
If a “bagman†has been identified, no one at Auburn is aware of it. The financial records of Cecil Newton, Cam Newton, his wife and his churches were scoured by the NCAA last year. Every possible Auburn record was examined. As one Auburn administrator put it: “They ran a stethoscope down our throat and didn’t find anything.â€
And Auburn has still not received any kind of letter of investigation.
I’m not saying the NCAA should say anything about what it’s looking into or what it isn’t. But it can put this fire out simply by saying there is no source passing out such information. If there is such a source, there ought to be an announcement that he or she has been summarily fired.
It’s simple as that.

Here's the thing I don't get. Out of ALL of the people who have been digging and digging to get to the bottom of the story...and ALL of the people in the media with friends in the NCAA...Danny Sheridan is the ONLY person who has the scoop on the 'bagman' story. Not some ESPN hotshot reporter, not someone from CBS Sports, but Danny Sheridan. The UAT graduate. The oddsmaker.
Even after he broke his 'story' last week, if I was in the media and had contacts within the NCAA, I would have been on the phone trying to verify the story. Yet not ONE person in the media has yet to verify or corroborate his story.
Does not compute.

Exactly...
And in the meantime, uat fires their Compliance Deptment employees and is now searching for two people to fill the void.

Unclear to me if they fired two or if they are just adding additional ones?
-
BAM, that just happened.
Sheridan = Full of SHIT.
-
Just another reason why Marshall is one of favorite writers.
-
Unclear to me if they fired two or if they are just adding additional ones?
Yeah, I'm not sure what that situation is.
-
I believe we'd probably know if they fired anyone. We even knew the dude in charge of the music at the Iron Bowl was canned.
-
It was discussed on the F'baum show today that one of the compliance folks just got out of the business a while back and the other had to leave to follow a husband who was transferring with his job.
It just HAPPENED to get posted yesterday.... Together... You know... Exactly the positions responsible for some of the shit going down in TTown right now.
-
Just a coinkidink, Chop. The Alabama AD isn't even thinking about the suits. That was handled months ago.

What would give you a reason to think anything different.

Exactly....
Did he get out around...December of last year or March of this year? LMAO, if something seems too coincidental, it usually isn't.

There is an old saying that translates well with this. It has something to do with a sinking ship.
