Supposedly Mike Slive is holding a press conference today at 12:30.

Seriously, I'd say expansion to 16 teams. aTm, OU, OSU, and some other team from the big-12. Mizzou would make me happy, since I'm only 2 hours from Columbia.

It's got to be huge. Leads me to think SEC expansion.
But I find it hard to believe something like that could remain unleaked from the newly expanded schools since I haven't heard a word about it since I thought this died last year.

I think aTm would keep it quiet just to give a big fuck you to the Big 12. They've got their feelings pretty hurt because they don't get their nuts rubbed quite as much as Texas does, so they're kind of unpredictable imo.

When Texas tried to go rogue, I remember most of the Big 12 was annoyed by it hence Nebraska taking off to the Big 10.
I really wouldn't be surprised to see us pick up A&M, Oklahoma, Florida State, and Clemson. Just guesses, but I really don't think the SEC is in a position to just pick up a few new teams for the hell of it.

A&M has also been exploring the financial ramifications of Texas going rogue the last couple of weeks. It's been in the news. So maybe this is what it is. Who knows.

I think FSU and Clemson make alot of sense. A&M, ok. Not so sure about OU. I mean, if we're talking strictly money, then what you're saying is an absolute grand slam. If we're talking about going to Oklahoma, maybe a name change is in order.

I just don't see the FSU and Clemson addition. It's all about money, and while it would make sense from a "traditional" sense, adding the markets of Tallahassee or Clemson don't bring anything to the SEC that we already don't have.
Adding a team like aTm brings the Houston/Texas TV market. Adding a team like OU brings basically the entire state of Oklahoma.
But Mizzou? You're getting the St Louis market and the Kansas City market.
I'd even expect a Virgina Tech over FSU or Clemson. Just because it's a TV market the SEC may not dominate right now.

Weird, I was just thinking about starting a thread this morning concerning this. No insight, was just thinking what if Auburn moved to the SEC East and what teams I would want to keep on our schedule each year from the West. Anywho, this should be interesting to find out what all the buzz is about.

And to add - why would Slive make the announcement at media days? Why would this be considered the biggest SEC news in recent history? Why would radio shows be told to clear the airways for this press conference?

Announcing a new "Agenda" to stimulate talk in change in NCAA. So basically, the rumors were over-blown as usual.
He's just talking about the same talking points. True cost of attendance scholarships, stricter academic requirements, etc, etc ,etc.

The only thing I heard of significance is he's wanting to raise the qualifying GPA from a 2.0 to a 2.5. That's kind of a big deal.

And that is a bunch of fail, IMO. I understand you want the conference to shine academically as well, but if you haven't noticed, there are alot of football players out there who aren't exactly the brightest crayons in the box. And as far as the whole multi-year scholarships go, <insert Saban jab here>, I don't think that's necessarily a good thing for the schools either. I suppose it will depend on how the rule is written. If a kid is a constant fuckup off the field, can you send him packing? Are there going to be certain requirements of the signee? Etc., etc.
