Title: More validation
Post by: Kaos on May 13, 2011, 12:36:51 PM
Here's something I didn't know.

Quote
The last SEC program to field two undefeated football teams in the same decade?  Alabama.  1960 and 1966.   That's also the last time an SEC program has had two undefeated teams within six years of each other.  From 1950 forward, no other SEC team other than Auburn or Alabama has multiple undefeated seasons.

Georgia went unbeaten in 1946 and 1980.  Tennessee in 1938 and 1998.

Unbeaten.  It's the best.  Trumps all else.  History says so.

So 2000s Auburn >= 1960s Alabama > All other decade-long runs in college football > Duke basketball.

Championship.

Who other than Auburn has had three in a 20 year span?

It has already been established that Auburn Basketball > Duke Basketball, so I assumed that the other was given.

Research.   Do it.

Alabama 61, 66, 79.  Barely made it.

Teams in the SEC that have had unbeaten seasons since 1950:

Alabama: 1961, 1966, 1979, 1992, 2009 (4) -- All four were NC seasons
Auburn: 1957, 1983, 2004,  2010 (4) -- Two NC seasons
LSU: 1958 (1) -- NC
Georgia: 1980 (1) -- NC
Tennessee: 1998 (1) -- NC
Ole Miss: 1962 (1) -- Nothing.  Never had a NC.

Arkansas 1964 (not in SEC)

For comparison purposes?

"Traditional powers"
Oklahoma 5
Penn State 5
Nebraska 4
Ohio State 3
USC 3
Texas 3
Miami 3
Notre Dame 2
Michigan 1

Looks to me like we've got a lot in common with Penn State.  Undervalued.

And one of Auburn's is 1993, not 1983. Kaos is a bit off lately.
