Title: Cam Newton and the eleven dwarfs
Post by: Kaos on May 06, 2011, 01:21:17 PM
As I've read articles and opinions over the last half of the 2010 season, and checked out previews and pre-season Top 25 predictions for the upcoming campaign it appears to me that the media at some point decided that Auburn was Cam Newton and the eleven (well, actually ten) dwarfs.

Gene Wojo's comment that Auburn ran the "please Cam make something happen" offense is one example.  The very real prospect that Auburn will be out of the first top 25 poll (thus becoming the only defending national champion not to be ranked in the season's first poll) reinforces it.

Without Cam, I truly believe Auburn wins eight to ten games last season.  Losing him is a major blow, but I honestly believe the key to the upcoming season really lies with the dwarfs.  We lost a lot of dwarfs and those losses will hurt more than anything.

Still to think that without Cam Auburn will go in the toilet is absurd.  Auburn won eight games against basically the same scheduling setup in 2009 with the worst defense in Auburn history and a bronze statue at quarterback.

The defense will be better.  The QB, whoever ends up with the job, will be just as capable as Chris Wooden Todd.

Are we going to repeat?  FUCK no.  But to write AU off as a four or five win team (as I hear every single day) is an affront.  I hope it pisses them off.

None of the media talking heads gave any Auburn players credit except Fairley for a team effort. Our O-line wasn't even respected in the draft like it should have been. Those were 4 year vets and in my opinion THE best O-line in the country and that includes Wisconsin's overhyped one. Darvin Adams wasn't given proper credit. OMAC who led the nation in ypc wasn't given credit. Nope it was all Cam all the time. Auburn would have lost every game if not for Cam.

Chattanooga had us dead to rights before Cam stepped up.

Let's be fair now.  They didn't have Cam Newton.

They fail to mention all the role players like Washington, Etheredge, Adams, Lutzy, OMAC and the best O Line in the country. Go back and look at film and you can see why Cam was able to get to the 2nd level many times. There were Moon sized holes in the middle. Once he got to that second level with momentum, thats when he made people look stupid.

Don't know if anyone recalls but following the LSU game, there was a thread on the board hijacked from some corn dog board, don't recall.  This guy had tons of still frames taken from the game and showing why it wasn't as much Cam as it was the blocking schemes of our line.  Really good stuff.  And this was kind of my argument with people last season that for the most part, Cam wasn't taking on D-Linemen.  The initial contact was oftentimes 2-3 yards past the line of scrimmage.  Then he was assured of taking on someone much smaller than he was.  How many times did he follow his blocking into the line and seemingly fall forward for 6-8 yards?  Dude was a monster so it was a mismatch once he cleared the line of scrimmage...and that's because of the blocking up front.

My question is where are all these jackoffs from last year who kept saying "you can't drop bama from number 1 till the lose?" Well Fuck we haven't lost either.  Will we? Probably. But we haven't yet.

Let us be reminded that the Aggies have stated time and time again that they aren't just visiting the Plains to pickup a quick paycheck. They are coming to win. We've been warned.

Aggies?  I wondered what they were called.

Wait...so, the Aggies pay their players too?

Everyone except Vanderbilt pays their players.  The reason is Vandy's players know they'll be gettin' paid after school.

Didn't Andy Luck stay at Samford for his senior year?

Those PAC10 teams are tough!

Fucking morons.  You recruit to get good players, then when you get a game changer, it's used against you.  Any fool that thinks that was as shitty team with one great player is fucking stupid as dog shit.  Any cocksucker that thinks the offense was "snap it to Cam and let him do his thing" is a football idiot.

Cam absolutely was a game changer, and play maker.  The offense would have been completely different had we had a different QB, like Todd for instance.  Chris Todd, with that OL playing the way it was, with Dyer and McCaleb and Adams, would have won 10 games last year.  I can say that with as much certainty as any fool that claims what would have been if Cam wasn't there.

This staff is one of if not the best overall too. Roof and company would look high school for a half and then just shut a team down. Was he sandbagging? 'Cause I don't know.
Yes a lot of it was Fairley but I think much more of it was by design.
Malzahn knew how to grind for a time and then switch gears. There were clutch catches that were not always on target and some pretty consistent special teams play.
Aside from getting gashed by some top flight receivers, Auburn made some very good players look ordinary. The media only recalls the highlights.
ie.   -I don't have to go back and watch a replay of LSU to know that the Auburn offense beat them in the trenches (Nevis) or the regular season game against South Carolina to know that they couldn't beat Auburn running the ball. (Lattimore)
