I lived there for 5 years. Approximately 2.5 of those years were spent on I-75. Didn't listen to much Willie Nelson or Ray Charles. Gwar was more fitting for the mood of Atlanta rush hour.

I heard a UGA Econ professor speak when I moved to ATL in 2003. He said that if you removed everything inside 285 Georgia immediately fell to dead last in every socio-economic category in the nation.
Yep, worse than Mississippi and Louisiana even.

That sound like an exaggeration to me. Because there are some sure 'nuff ghettos inside the perimeter. I would have to say that East Cobb/Roswell/Dunwoody have the highest standard of living in the state.

Go into West and Central Georgia. Makes some bad spots in Alabama look good. I am right on the AL/GA line and have been my whole life so I can speak objectively.
As wes said, remove Atlanta, and Georgia is as podunk as anything.
